So here goes. I am a plus sized woman. Just a fact. Happily, it's pretty rare that I feel that my size impacts the way I'm treated. In fact, the only time in recent memory that I've felt my size impacted how I was treated by someone was with the massage I received at Qi. Now, this is not a statement against everyone that works there. In fact, I had a great massage many years ago (I even asked the team if they could help me track her down, to no response), but I couldn't tell you who it was with. This time however, I selected to have an appointment with Jorg. He specializes in joint, posture & movement issues, and with chronic problems I have stemming from a past broken leg and multiple related surgeries, he seemed like the perfect match. Only, that hope was one way, as I got the distinct impression from the moment he walked in the room that I wasn't his "ideal" client. What followed was a 50 minute massage (in a 60 minute timeslot), zero check-ins about pressure or anything at all, and about the only words he said to me felt like a complete slap in the face. At the end of our time, he told me bluntly that he specializes in *sports* massage, and that the next time I come in? I should book with someone else. Message received loud and clear, Jorg. I'm truly sorry that in your world, only the fit and slender qualify for your help.

In this November, I found out there were…read moreholes in my retina in both my eyes, and I was referred to see a specialist to do laser surgery, while advised by my optometrist to be very careful with movement and if I see flashes/curtains/floaters or sudden reduction of eye sight, I need to call the specialist right away, because then I would be at risk of going blind. I have one scheduled for three month later. It's terrifying to wait for specialist while every time when I am exhausted, I can't see well after a day of work, I wasn't sure if that's the time I need to call specialist or go ER. I called Peter since he had helped me with several serious issues I had in the past and performed miracles. He started treating my eyes, and he was really empathetic with my fear. Peter reassured me he will try his best to treat my eye, and he believes my retina and my eyes can get better slowly. Even though I checked online Retina doesn't heal itself... Peter's determination and calm assurance each session really showed he cared, and he eased my fear, and I felt more hopeful. We started treatment two to three times a week for a month for my eyes with herbs and diet change and I also got supplement for my eyes. I felt a lot of relief of dry eyes symptoms and eye strain after each session and become more mindful at drastically reduce my screen time. Today, as I am on vacation in another country, I was able to get to an eye specialist right away(much better than Canadian waiting system) and to my surprise, they didn't find any holes in either of my retina!!!! This demonstrates extreme negligence on their part and lack of professionalism. It was a really bad experience. When I arrived at this tiny, super-clean esthetics studio inside a hair salon, she had a warm soapy bowl of comfort already waiting for my abused feet. After a nice long soak, I was taken to a separate room and seated in a reclining bed while my feet were scrubbed, buffed, massaged, polished and pampered to perfection for a full hour. As I informed Maggie, I don't like to talk during my pedis, so the silence I enjoyed was neither uncomfortable nor unfriendly.
