My beautiful wife of 20 years and our two teens visited Asturianos after reading a Times article on where the Spanish chefs eat. I see why. Son Alberto hooked us up. We had: 1. The sardines pictured in the article, 10 out of 10 2. Cockles cooked lightly in oil y garlic 10 The awesome bread was even more awesome dipped in this 3. Mushroom special 7 (tough to follow Les Chamignones!) 4. Asturian Stew, Creamy skinless fava beans with chorizi, ham, and blood sausage 9 5. Beef Cheeks 11, make that 100, unbelievably rich and tender Desert - Cheese Flan, no egg,, signature dessert, 11 and Runny Chocolate mousse with salt and pepper 9.5 4 glasses of wine 1 beer, it was the tap, called super bock, but it was light colored, and delish with a thick foam head, never experienced a head like it?! 3 waters euro 117.20, Priceless! Folks, this is a wonderful, delightful spot in a very quiet neighborhood. The food has authentic soulful flavors, nothing contrived or made without careful prep and execution. I highly recommend Breton mussels in a rich, complex tomato broth. I made the trip here largely due to the vibe of the wine program. Oh my, Alberto has exciting and amazing wines to offer you (btg, the each course). He has local wines sure but he had super good wines from all over Iberia. Let him handle your libations. We have been eating real good food in Madrid, but the general atmosphere of service has been terrible. I was initially not excited to come to Arzabal, for my girlfriend found it in the New York Times which claimed that the chefs of Madrid dine here. However, we have visited Arzabal which was listed in the same article and we had a great experience. Well, I don't know about the chefs, but the food was amazing and the staff (son of the Chef, Doña Julia) was friendly, fast and helpful. No issues without reservation, on Sunday night. Did meet some tourists who also read the same article. The prices are quite reasonable for Madrid. Must try the cider marinated sardines, the spicy mussels and the fava bean stew. read more

My friend and I went here after reading about their fabada online. We had been craving Asturian food to warm us up, and we were not disappointed! The fabada (€17) was simply fantastic -- tender beans, large chunks of meat (chorizo, morcilla, ham) that contributed to the dishes flavor.
