After going through our parents house, I discovered some film. I had no idea what it could be, so I went to Astound to see if it was some long lost home movies. I did appreciate Astound having curbside service.
Upon bringing the movies to Astound, I was informed these were old VHS movies, which had been taken out of the case, for some unknown reason. I did mention if it was an old taped recording of a show I would not want it. Yes, my parents would have saved my recording of a 1985 Days of Our Lives episode! It took awhile to complete the transfer, which was fine. It also took my quite awhile to pick up the DVD, as their hours conflicted with my work schedule.
I was charged $20 for the cleanings of each of the 4 tapes, even though 1 was blank.
When I watched the DVD I was GREATLY disappointed to find only 1 of the videos were meaningful to me. Unfortunately, the one recording which I wanted to watch, was so staticky, it was impossible to watch. It was devastating to hear my late father, but not be able to see him because of the very poor quality of the video.
The other 2 videos were basketball bloopers and a Rolodex instructional video?! Those were better quality, but I didn't care about those videos.
I wish the staff from Astound would have had the common sense to call me and say, here is what I'm seeing, do you want me to continue? I understand they can't know what I would want and not want. given I had no idea what was on the tapes, it would have been nice to at least have been asked.
I had sent an email to Astound, with no response. I did call and express my frustration and disappointment. I asked for a partial refund, which they denied. They offered to 'try again to clean it up'.
Frankly, I have too much going on in my life to put additional energy towards this project.
Overall, I would not use or recommend Astound. It was too expensive for a poor quality product. read more
