I had to wait in the chair for a very long time after the cleaning to speak with the doctor (so long I had to make calls to cancel things and make alternate arrangements for my kids). When the dentist finally came in, she started a conversation about the high costs of running a dental practice?!? (We had only met one time before this). She then seemed shocked when she presented her very elaborate plan to me and I responded with "yes, lets please start with the most urgent and space treatment out because cost is a very serious concern and barrier". she then sent her hygienist in to ask me if I wanted veneers!!!!!! months later, a $500 bill arrived..... that did not at all match any of the estimates and promises I had been given for a simple cleaning and xrays. now that I am here looking through other reviews, I see that this is something other patients have experienced as well. truly unfortunate since it is a nice office with a great premise.

I called Mike Bakken 8pm Christmas eve and he wanted me to come in that day but because I up north 3hours away. He offered to open his office for me on Christmas Day and fix a cracked root which was infected. I cannot Thank them enough for giving up part of his Christmas day to help me. And not only that, she's also very skilled and worked very gently and carefully. Even though I have sensitive teeth, my experience was actually pleasant this time being at the dentist. I could also tell from the information she shared with me that she keeps up with current research and embraces holistic nutrition and also has knowledge about our body's other systems that affect our overall health, including our teeth. I also met with Dr. Schwartz for my exam. I could sense that his number one priority was what is best for the patient, and he treated me as well as a person would treat a family member. The reply was " I clean teeth, front desk takes care of that". I told her I already informed front desk, and letting her know, if additional services beside cleaning were needed ( I expected this to be a common knowledge). This was not a typical response i usually receive. Then my mouth was examined and I sensed a great agitation/urgency wave from the hygienist. I was told my gums state declined from last time and we need to do something and develop a plan. I am not sure if my history was reviewed prior to my arrival. I replied, I have been living with my mouth for a long time and cleaning every 3 months. Onto cleaning: I asked for a numbing jel prior to cleaning. I was put flat in a chair, no overhead light. When top gum was covered, I asked to stop/ complete lower gum later and raise my head, as gel leaks into a throat typically in horizontal position. There was no actual wait time between application of gel and measurements by a sharp ( loud measurements with front desk clerk involved in a process recording mm). Then there were pictures taken, at one point I heard: " I don't want to see this". The hygienist stated I need to be seen by a doctor, but the Dr was not in a clinic at the time of my appointment (verified by the same front desk clerk). The cleaning/rinsing with laser like plink started, but not enough water was given, so my mouth was dry. I asked why I was not rinsed periodically, to which reply was the water is already a part of cleaning plick. I was asked to close my mouth periodically with metal cleaning tip very close to my lips. I actually felt my lips brushing against some surface when I close my mouth almost every time. I asked hygienist to keep the metal piece farther. She stopped and stated: Let's see a doctor....but the doctor was not in. I never saw a doctor, even thru Hygienist sounded like it's urgent and my gums were actively bleeding. Instead, front desk clerk appeared and wanted to reschedule my appointment. I reported noticeable agitation from hygienist, felt very unwelcomed as a client, basically disrespected. I wondered, if hygienist wanted to actually clean my mouth, do her job. Hygienist disappeared, no doctor in site, my mouth dry and still having gel in. I stated I will be transitioning my cares away to another service Provider.

Been going here since I dumped another dentist, Leroy Hipp. Dr. Amble was the dentist when I first…read morestarted going to Grand Avenue Dental and I was very impressed with him, and now that he has retired I see Dr. Stead (one of the two dentists that now occupy his old practice). Have had good experience with her as well as the hygenists and the receptionist (Robin). Robin and Dr. Stead were able to accomodate me during the very next day they were open to re-cement a cap, which I appreciated. Dr. Stead does give off an aura of caring and my impression is that she does a thorugh job during exams. I have always felt that choosing a dentist is sort of like what a condemed man feels when choosing his method of execution (some states do offer a choice) but I've come to believe that if one has to make the choice I've made a good one with Dr. Stead, though we do differ on the necessity of routine X-rays which, because of the heightened brain cancer risk, small as it may be,I will not be getting anymore. My body, my choice.

Dr. Langley is a good dentist, and all but one of the crowns he did fits well. I had a decent…read moreamount of work done over 5 visits, mostly crowns/fillings, and I am happy with the results. The dental hygienist however was inexperienced and unsure of herself. She spent 30 minutes poking my gums and telling how much I need a deep cleaning (I was already planning it for the fall) and selling me on additional fluoride treatments. I know this is a business and she is pressured to make more sales, so I tried to let it go...but then the actual 'cleaning' took 10 minutes. Minimal attention to detail and stains and a quick floss. That and the receptionist who sits closest to the door needs a new job where she does not have to interact with anyone. Barista's at the Caribou across the street have less attitude. In the end the place is clean and the dentists are good. When I complained about the lack of a cleaning they said they would not charge me for the visit. Unfortunately they seem to care more about how much they can charge you than giving you good service. Scare tactics/worse case scenarios to push more and more procedures leaves me feeling distrustful. The crazy thing is I need a lot more dental work and I will be spending a lot of money at a dentist over my lifetime.
