We couldn't have done it without help from Sisters Care!…read more Our mother broke her ankle and needed inpatient rehab after the surgery to repair it. She is also in stage 5 Alzheimer's dementia and had a very bad reaction to the anesthesia used during the surgery; a very common side effect for those with dementia. Family members and friends were by her side all day and evening, but we didn't have anyone who could be there at night. Mom was having extremely vivid nightmares and would be very upset when she woke up in the middle of the night disoriented and feeling an urgent need to get out of bed and run away! Sisters Care from The Village at Incarnate Word provided the overnight coverage for us. The "angels" who helped Mom were able to reorient and help her to calm down so she could go back to sleep. They also kept her from walking on her broken ankle before it was sufficiently healed. I wish I could mention each of our caregivers directly.... Onboarding was seemless and stress free. We explained moms level of dementia and a "story" to go along with. Mom was getting a "personal assistant" once a week for companionship and shopping for any of her personal needs. The care givers were so kind! No pressure...just friendship. 29 May 2025 Today I…read moreattended my first class offered by Oasis. They are an organization that caters to the 50+ crowd. They offer classes at their two sites: where I am today, 137 W. French Place, a MM Chandler estate. Very nice old building. The second site is at 700 Babcock Road. The class today is about the Rock and Roll Explosion of the 1950s. Using a PowerPoint presentation, the instructor focused on Elvis, Chuck Berry and Little Richard. She had clips of old interviews and performances. She even had a personal story of her husband playing bass with Berry when he was in San Antonio. Berry had been burned so green by promoters, he required $5000 in cash before he played. Yikes. He got the cash and the show went on. The class was very informative and entertaining. One of my later classes will be 'Female Serial Killers'. I can hardly wait.

Excellent location and for that alone it would have been worth it. I lived in a one-bedroom apartment on the second floor directly across from Pullman market and I really loved the apartment itself along with the amenities. I was getting my master's degree in an accelerated army program while I was here, so the built-in desk was especially convenient as was the gym which I used 3-4 times a week at least. I had several notable issues while I was here regarding the laundry machines, cracks formed in the ceiling, air conditioning and lower door lock breaking off, but all were fixed within a week at minimum and I had no issues with the maintenance team, by the end they even gave me touch up paint before move out! I am only moving due to getting new orders elsewhere, otherwise I would move here easily and would move back should I get stationed here again! Thank you for the wonderful experience.
