Who better that Lou Savrease to promote your fight? Weather it be a sanctioned bout or one for…read morecharitable cause, Lou's connections in the boxing world as well as in the Houston business scene are unmatched. For sanctioned fight nights they will put on several a year and tickets can be purchased from the gym or several other locations around town. They are always entertaining and will usually include 10 to 12 fights in all of the various weight classes. For the charity events you just have to watch more closely. Some of these events are private but Lou and his staff are never ones to not tell you what's going on if the public is allowed to buy a seat or a table at the event. Also, Lou is great for having him speak to kids. He has a knack for it and the kids really light up when they hear his story. Stop by and say hi sometime, you might just end up staying half the day

Turns out, he puts on one hell of a fun fight night too. too. My son and I were looking for a local boxing promotion and I found "Rumble on the Bayou 7" in September. It was held at the beautiful Bayou City Events Center near Reliant Stadium. I bought tickets online that were left for us at will call. The matches were held in a big ballroom with great lighting, spacing and seating. Audio/Video was first class as were all of the people from the promotions that I interacted with. Drinks were served by Hooters of Humble girls and there were additional concessions in the lobby. Bathroom access was also in lobby and was spacious and clean. From the ring announcer to the "card" girls, the event was created to be safe, fun and even somewhat interactive. The fights themselves were good entertainment and well paced between matches. Ticket prices range from $35-150 but every table or seat has a great view. I cannot wait to come back for the next event. Thanks for a great night with my son. Well done Savarese Promotions!

I tend to go to at least one of these types of events a month, but this one sadly wasn't one of my top favs. In fact if it didn't have the awesome food truck Eatsie Boys outside, I might have found it more of a total wash. The drinks were tasty (Izkali Tequila is a great company that goes to lots of events lately), but all the food they had inside was completely picked over or stale. The dip ran out of chips, and the dip was served in a bread bowl so people kept ripping off pieces of it to dip with their dip. Considering how many people don't wash their hands regularly that made my tummy a bit queasy. The cupcakes also tasted days old, which was a shame since I know they are usually awesome from that company. Also they had this spin the wheel giveaway thing that's people snagged you right away when you got in, which turned out to be nothing more than a scam to get you to give your credit card number over so you can go across town to listen to a speech about a resort community to get airline tickets. That sort of thing was a total turn off, and when my mom kept asking questions about it they kept giving her the run around. All in all, unless I had a reason to go again aka friends going or someone I know was winning something, I wouldn't get tickets again.

Firstly, this was the same venue that hosted Houston's Phi Slama Jama teams that included Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Young, and Clyde Drexler. Before Toyota Center, even before the Summit/Compaq Center, Houston had Hofheinz Pavilion. This was the original home of the Houston Rockets when they moved here. It hosted live acts such as Elton John, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, The Jackson 5, Madonna, Genesis, Prince, and Bob Dylan to name few. Yes, this place is a bit dated looking, but it most definitely looks nothing like a high school arena. Hofheinz Pavilion seats about 8,500 spectators, has multiple video screens, etc. The University of Houston has announced $40 million in upgrades, and already blows all other basketball arenas in the Houston area away minus the Toyota Center and Reliant Arena. This place is underrated.
