Cottonwood Veterinary Hospital - This was my baby girl hours after leaving cottonwood, hours after Dr. Hoest said my baby was okay.

The dedication to animals and doing fine work shown here is simply amazing, and my Danes knows she's going to feel better after she sees Dr. Hoest and her staff.

We had took her in and told them EVERYTHING! She was very sick, they told us they'd start with X-rays to make she didn't have a blockage. 6 hours later, we went to go get her. All the told us was they gave her anti nausea medicine, sent her home with different food and said "there was no blockage she's okay." They also said they took her outside and she "perked right up." "She hasn't thrown up at all while here" our baby girl proceeded to gag as soon as we got in the car. Progressively got worse since the moment she left. 2 days later she died. We took her to a second vet the next day after cottonwood, where they proceed to check her right away and said she's EXTREMELY dehydrated, and couldn't believe cottonwood didn't give her an IV, AFTER KNOWING SHE HADN'T EATEN OR DRANK IN DAYS. Amigo vet gave her IVs, tested her for parvo (negative) amigo told us she was extremely sick. My baby bled out of her but. She was extremely sick going into cottonwood, and they neglected our baby girl. 2 days after her passing, I talked to her doctor in person Dr. Hoest. I had asked her why they didn't give piper an IV. She quite literally SHRUGGED her shoulders. Continued to tell us, they checked if she was dehydrated, said she was. Were we told that when picking her up from there. NO, I was not. We were told nothing else but that she didn't have a blockage, THEY SAID SHE WAS OKAY. Whatever you do, don't take your baby here. Take them somewhere people actually care, Dr. Hoest chooses which clients she would like to GENUINELY care for. Yea it's cheaper here, but is it really worth the risk? Dr. Hoest neglected my dog, didn't do her job they way she should have. do NOT bring your pets here!

The visit was very short as he said he had a surgery. If he would have taken the time I would have told him I'm taking the time to move her to ER place.AS DR disconnected her breathing machine. I noted he didn't have her on fluid therapy. After telling me she is not drinking. But no talk about follow up. I made sure to tell him I have money. He quickly leaves. Almost right away vet tech who wears dark glasses cuts in front of me and quickly grabs Sarah who quietly sat at back of cage and was mean to her to get her worked so that now I can't visit her without hissing and scratching.I did nothing because I was so shocked. I'm thinking Who does this? In front of me. I planned to get her a second opinion and to the ER place..Where is her boundaries? So unethical. She caused harm to my cat. The Dr knows I;m sure.Because soon after she arrived and was given eye drops for conjunctivitis he wasn't;t receptive to other ideas to help her. As time went on he never said take Sarah somewhere else.. No reason vet tech was so aggressive. This is considered an assault. None of this.I did look around corner and witnessed what she did.NEVER will forget it. She hurt my cat.....All the white this done in a hurry. This visit was not to do a euthanasia. But she was forceful...Not even any talk.I'm numb..NO COMPASSION.....It took a while to tame her when I found her as a stray and now by the vet tech;s actions I have to start over again. If these people care about cats why would they not let her get a second opinion? This behavior by them shocked a few others. They killed my 3 year calico cat. Who received a shot. And I;m charged $500. I can't give any more details as its too painful. They just wanted to kill my cat and not treat her.Or give me second opinion. I had to stop now. There is a little more.........

As a military officer with extensive domestic and international travel experience accompanied by…read morepets, I prioritize leaving positive reviews to support well-run businesses. However, in cases where systemic flaws impact pet care, it is essential to provide constructive feedback to encourage improvement. Canyon Country Animal Hospital in Grand Junction, CO, stands out for having the least competent reception staff I have encountered across multiple veterinary clinics. We have visited four times for our dog and newly adopted kitten, and each experience has highlighted significant deficiencies in internal communication, professionalism, and customer service. Key Issues Observed 1. Inadequate Internal Communication and Appointment Management - Despite the clinic being consistently empty (never more than my pet, myself, and maybe one other client present), receptionists appeared disorganized, confused, or unapproachable during all four visits. - Medication Refill Error (Dog's First Visit): We explicitly requested chewable Apoquel tablets during a new patient exam due to relocation needs. The veterinarian assured us that the last chewables had been sold but refills would arrive in 1-2 days, with the front desk to call for pickup. After three days without contact, I visited in person and was provided non-chewable tablets at $113 for a 30-day supply--$30 more than our previous clinic. When I pointed out the discrepancy (non-chewables), the receptionist stated, "We don't carry chewables because they cost more." This misinformation (chewables are standard and available elsewhere) led to no resolution; we ultimately obtained the medication from our previous veterinarian and will now order exclusively from Chewy. - Kitten Vaccination Scheduling (10/13/2025 Appointment): Our shelter-adopted kitten's records indicated his third round of shots was due on this date. Despite no email or text confirmations, I called repeatedly from 0750-0830 and emailed for the time slot. The call was answered at 8:32 AM, declaring me "late." I arrived promptly and was still able to be seen by a kind veterinarian who performed an exam but deferred vaccinations due to the kitten's small size. Records now incorrectly show him as delinquent on shots, complicating our upcoming move and rental applications. - The vet's Instructions were: Return in 4 weeks for distemper shots; return in 8 weeks for rabies. I paid and left. - My follow-up calls revealed that there had been no appointments scheduled for follow-up. This morning I booked the next appointment and asked to verify some information, the receptionist stated cats cannot receive rabies shots until 4 months old and that the 4-week visit was only for distemper--despite the kitten reaching 4 months by then and me asking can I do both? The 4-week visit is a technician-only appointment so I won't be able to consult the vet and the receptionist did not offer to confirm for me. Still no appointment confirmations were sent. 2. Unresponsiveness and Excuses - Receptionists failed to answer calls or emails promptly, even on low-volume days. When questioned, one stated, "It's a Monday," despite the clinic being completely empty. - Request for appointment notifications was denied with the explanation, "Some phone companies block them." This issue does not occur with notifications from other medical providers and seems like a failure on the clinic's part. I have service-related disabilities that cause me to rely on confirmation emails and messages and I don't believe it is too much to ask. 3. Consistent Lack of Professionalism - Both receptionists (two young women) were inhospitable and defensive during all four interactions, particularly when addressing legitimate concerns. This extends to poor coordination between front desk and veterinary staff. In four visits, not one has been helpful or useful for my family. Broader Context: - Following the tragic loss of our healthy cat within two weeks of treatment at another local clinic (with even poorer outcomes), Canyon Country Animal Hospital was recommended as a superior option to us. Regrettably, we have not experienced the expected standard of care. Our pets deserve efficient, accurate, and compassionate service, which has been absent here. Recommendation - I strongly advise Canyon Country Animal Hospital to invest in receptionist training, implement robust appointment and notification systems, and improve front-to-back communication. - Pet owners in Grand Junction deserve better. After this being our 3rd Vet Clinic in 2025, we cannot afford to relocate again at this time and go through new patient exams again. For now I will rate accordingly, with hopeful intent for a positive update in the future.
