VERY CONCERNING experience with Dentist. Steven Plouffe and the check-out staff at Aspen Dental. My mom visited this office for the FIRST TIME for a routine dental checkup. During the exam, the dentist said HER TEETH LOOKED GOOD and there were NO CAVITIES OR ISSUES. However, at the end of the visit they recommended a DEEP CLEANING. We initially agreed because we assumed it was similar to a normal cleaning. At checkout we were then presented with a $3,900 ESTIMATE, which was shocking. When we asked if my mom could instead get a REGULAR CLEANING, the CHECK-OUT STAFF HAD A VERY PUSHY ATTITUDE and insisted she MUST DO DEEP CLEANING because she supposedly had PERIODONTITIS. This was confusing because: * The dentist NEVER mentioned periodontitis during the exam * NO periodontal probing measurements were done * The treatment plan document shows NO PSR score or periodontal exam recorded When we asked the dentist to confirm, he briefly returned and said my mom had periodontitis, but NO MEASUREMENTS OR EXPLANATION WERE PROVIDED. We declined the treatment. Patients deserve clear diagnosis, documentation, and transparency before being pushed into a $3,900 procedure. read more

If I could leave a no star review, I would. First of all, I took my daughter there to get her teeth looked at as a new patient. I expected that they'd do X-rays, we'd meet and talk to a dentist, get her teeth cleaned, and we'd be on our way. However, I was told she had a little bit of gingivitis and that we'd need to schedule another appointment with a hygienist to have her teeth cleaned. $170 later (they made us pay this before the next appointment even happened), we left with that appointment scheduled. As it turned out, the day of her next appointment, she was ill with a sore throat and runny nose, so I called to cancel and reschedule the appointment which ended up being about a month later. The appointment was scheduled for 1 pm on a Friday. I got a text the day before and the appointment time changed to 12:15 pm. I had no other notification of this. I also got a voicemail while I was at work stating the appointment needed to be verified, so I called them and pressed option 2 as it instructed me to do in the voicemail. It directed me to "Amelia," the automated virtual assistant, who tied the account to my phone number and my child's birthday...she even stated her name and asked if it was correct and said the appointment was CONFIRMED. Fast forward to the next day, we arrive by 12 pm only to find out that the appointment was cancelled because...wait for it...it was not verified. The receptionist told me the appointment would have to be rescheduled. No thanks! I asked for a refund and left. Moral of the story: Do NOT go to Aspen Dental! They will commit highway robbery before a service is even performed and you'll be lucky if their bullshit system will even let you keep your appointment. read more

At first I thought this is gonna be great we went over everything I told the dentist I had a wedding October he said no problem you will have teeth they won't be your permanent but you will have teeth so we went ahead I went for surgery sat there about the time I was to go back they said they couldn't the suction machine wasn't working they would try to get me I again that month that didn't happen so now im a month behind already so I finally had it done the first set would not fit at all so I went back in to have my top gum shaved they shaved top and bottom now the second set was made I looked like a horse so they was working on them so by October they wasn't ready for the wedding I wasn't going to with no teeth. The manager said I won't be charged for the second set wasn't my fault the first didn't fit im like really why would I. So third set top fit bottom won't stay in as soon as I start talking they come lose .. I called as the manager if I could vent to her she said no problem let her ck her schedule to make sure she is gonna be there I was also going for another fitting for the bottom. I got there got the fitting was told to give it time so I told them I was to talk with the manager I was told she wasn't there that day that I would be talking to the manager under her, she was rude to me I asked for a name of someone above them.i could talk to she gave me a name said she could give out the number and she said I guess we are done with this conversation so that was it. I promised myself I would do everything in my power to make sure no one else goes through this so I have been advertising! The word of mouth is a powerful thing believe me. I don't have my bottom teeth gone through all the embarrassment paid my almost 10.000 bill off trying to get the courage to go to another dentist to finish what was started. Aspen dental in St Clair Pennsylvania tell me if they accepted my insurance and that date extract the molar that is busted in half in my mouth had me waste a trip that I ran 37 miles one way to for the appointment today only to find out down there that they lied to be on the phone and didn't take my insurance then it's about doing payments and then they refused to do that and they refused to extract the tooth so Aspen dental is a joke I would not recommend anybody to go there and on top of that all the staff was very rude and ignorant towards me being that I'm in a lot of pain with this tooth in my mouth Aspen dental is not a good place to go for dental work or for an extraction of a tooth I recommend looking elsewhere before going to Aspen dental read more

This place is extremely sketchy. They keep putting things in bills that I don't ask for, have the same thing costing me $180 listed 13 times and refuse to give me insurance discounted rates. Absolutely terrible. I understand that things come up, but my cleaning appointment has been rescheduled over 5 times. I was notified each time less than 24 hours before my appointment that it was cancelled. No reasoning was provided. One of the appointments they didn't even call me to tell me it was cancelled- I showed up for the appointment and they said someone must have forgotten to tell me it was cancelled. Mind you, I have taken off of work each time to attend these appointments. I wish I would have read the reviews prior to booking my initial checkup in March. I had to pay out of pocket for an acute pain visit (where they only told me I'd need a root canal) because they were unable to figure out how to submit a claim to my insurance. They are an in network-provider, so the inability to submit a claim to someone they're in network with is odd to me. After 3 weeks, the issue is still not resolved and I'm still out the unnecessary out-of-pocket expense. read more

I scheduled three appointments with this office only to have one canceled two weeks out. The day of the other two appointments, I received a phone call asking if we can come in at 10:30, to which I stated no. Upon our arrival, 15 minutes before our first scheduled time, the not so friendly receptionist said we had an appointment at 10:30 that was missed. I had the original emails from the company regarding the appointment times, yet, today have an email stating one appointment was at 10:30. This company changed our appointment times without speaking with me, then acted like it was my fault. This was our first appointment with this dental office and we walked out without seeing the dentist. Stay clear from this place...my husband went for one tooth to be fixed they conned him into much more...his partial did not fit properly after many visits he returned it.They promised to credit for the returned partial ...never happened ..There response was the proper paper was not signed ...we were there 3 times to sign the paper and still no credit...so my husband is left with with a bill for somthing he didn't receive ...and they told him they were giving him a free Electric toothbrush ...Was definitely not the charge was almost $500. read more

The worst place you can go to. They are only after money and if you don't agree to a procedure they want to do they tell you they can't do anything to help. They won't do anything to help you not even a cleaning. They did this to me. They wanted to do a scaling and I told them I couldn't afford it and they told me if I didn't get it they would not clean my teeth or even fix my cracked tooth. They force product on you that you dont want or need and rob you of your money. The hygienists have free reign to basically say anything about your teeth, then demand they perform certain cleanings and treatments and refuse you service if you do not want what they recommend. They wouldnt have to gouge their customers if they just did theirs jobs honestly. Id put zero star if possible. read more

So I finally go in at my scheduled 4:30 appointment, and they tell me "it will be 415" Oh, I said, I'm sorry I was a little late. No, they said, that's how much it will cost. So I left. I went to Aspen since they accept my insurance and could get me in. I thought a thorough exam would be beneficial even though I only needed a routing cleaning. The techs were overly cheerful and the dentist nice. They explained everything in detail although I had to give the hygienists a lot of information about what they were seeing on my xrays. Then the fun began. They tried to sell me into a "recommended plan" with bite guard, fluoride treatment and oral cancer screening on top of the routine cleaning- knowing my insurance would only cover the cleaning- at almost $700! Even after taking all of that off, I still had a copay on the cleaning (my insurance covers 100%)! They said I would have to pay that upfront in order to even schedule my routine cleaning. I was obviously shocked and told them I would call them to schedule instead of scheduling right then, the receptionist said haughtily "Okay, you're done" and dismissed me. I am in search of another dentist and will wait a few months if needed. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ASPEN DENTAL, they will try to upsell you into their "plan of action" costing much more than you bargained for. read more

This is the most unprofessional place around the area. I scheduled a visit Monday. I came back from Philadelphia to have a broken tooth fixed. They tell me the day prior via email they need to reschedule. Then send a text the morning of saying the need to reschedule. Then send a following text saying it was rescheduled for 4pm. So I show up for my 4pm like I was instructed and they said sorry we tried reaching out to you and it's my fault they messed up my appointment. So ridiculous, this is the absolute worst experience I've ever had dont even bother with these places. No accountability whatsoever. You guys are clowns. read more

I had an appointment for noon. I showed up a little early because it was my first time being there. No one greeted me even after I signed in. Finally after standing at the counter for about 5 minutes, I was asked to sign in. I said I did, and it was my first time there. After the papers were filled out, I was called back about 12:10. The person doing the X-rays put on gloves, looked in my mouth, then proceeded to touch so much stuff, including the wall as she kept going in and out, readjusting the bite clip. After that was done, I was ushered into a chair in another room. The Dr. came in, greeted me with her left hand because her right hand was in a cast. How can a person whose job is very highly dependent on their hands be working in a cast? The dr. did her thing and told me the office manager would come talk to me. This person came and got me out of the room, bringing me back out front... to run financial numbers. At this point it was almost 1 p.m. I was getting frustrated, all I wanted was a cleaning that my insurance would cover. It took another 15 minutes to run numbers and for me to tell them I just wanted my cleaning. Then I was wisked away to another area where I was finally to get my cleaning. The hygienist used some kind of electronic tool and it hurt so much that I was practically screaming. I've never been afraid of the dentist, but this was so painful. When she stopped for a second asking if it hurt, and I said yes, she sighed and annoying said she had to use the hand tool. I've had many cleanings in my life, this was ridiculous. She hurried through it, didn't even rinse my mouth well. I was still crunching on the gritty cleaning product. I do NOT recommend Aspen Dental and will not be back. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! I wish I had taken to the time to read the other reviews! It went from bad to worse. I was told to be there 15 minutes early but had to wait 15 minutes until they unlocked their doors. I was made to get a lot of x-rays though I told them I did not want them. I then saw a dentist who proceeded to out line all the MANY things I needed done even though I have seen a dentist every 6 months for all of my 67 years. He must have seen the wrinkles and saw I had insurance and saw money signs. Then some lady came and spent time poking my gums and clicking on the computer. She too told me all of the things I needed to do. I said I just want my teeth cleaned and my broken filling fixed. But oh no she legally could not clean my teeth because she had "diagnosed" this very serious gum disease that my previous dentist did not even note 6 months before and I should just hang there while she gets the office manager to schedule ALL of this work. I just about RAN out of there and I will never return! I am so happy to be able to share my experience in hopes that I might save another! read more

This place has horrible management I scheduled my whole family for a Saturday 2 months out for cleanings. We printed all the paper and drove the 45mins there and the doors were locked up closed. I even got a confirmation text that morning and a email the day before confirming. I called them and they said there was an emergency. Which I get that can happen but it must have been a horrible emergency that nobody could call and cancel are appoints!!! I went in for a new complete set of dentures, the staff were all very polite and informative, treated me with a lot of respect, listened to what I wanted and I met with the financial lady she was also very friendly, helpful, and gave me my options for payment. 6/20/2015 4 separate trips. Very high priced. Now I have a very sensitive tooth. Can't even chew on it. Went back and was told nothing was wrong and they actually gave me candy to chew on to see if it was just me. First of four trips was ok. Staff friendly. Said I had some credit because they make you pay up front and some things didn't need to be done. Great was my thought. Second trip the credit disappeared and my bill was more than quoted. Office staff was rude when I dared to question it. They blamed the techs as they don't understand the billing. Either way I had to pay the bill. Had to go for one more visit. Now the dentist seemed like she was in a hurry. Pain started on one of the teeth they worked on. Had to go for another visit. Same dentist I had previously so she again was in a hurry. Ground down on my teeth again had me bite a paper and said they are fine. I told her it only hurt when I was chewing. She actually gave me candy coated chocolate eggs to eat to tell her that. I am not a big sweet eater beyond that a dentist giving me candy. Wow. She told me if it persisted to come back. At this point I am not doing that. I cancelled my next appt. which they insisted I make for a checkup. My best guess in the whole thing is I didn't have any pain before and now I do so someone drilled a little too hard or misdiagnosed what needed to be done. Either way I would stay away. UPDATE 8/24/2015 I received a letter to have me contact the office to see what could be done. I decided to give it another shot and as I feared I made another mistake. The first thing that happened, which I actually appreciated, was that they kept the dentist who gave me the candy to chew on away from me. The dentist working on me brought up my x-rays from before my first visit. To remind you before I had any work done including my teeth cleaning. He looked over them for about ten minutes and then proceeded to show me a mark in between my teeth that was probably causing the pain in my tooth. He asked when I had my teeth cleaned last. My response was when you guys caused the pain in my tooth back in March and April. He then realized he was looking at old X-rays. He pushed on my tooth and checked it for temperature sensitivity. He tells me I have a fracture in the tooth. No X-Ray to show that. I did not have any pain in that tooth until it was worked on by Aspen Dental. He said I needed a crown. Then decided to check to see if I needed a root canal. The only one in the office who can do that is the dentist who they were keeping away from me. They asked me if it was ok for her to come look and I said fine. Then I hear them all (both dentists and assistant) go into the lunch room for a moment to discuss things. They come out and all of the sudden she is busy and can't check but the current dentist is going to do it. Not sure how since I was just told the other one was the only one who could do it. He tells me I need the root canal and the crown. He is referring me to a surgeon for the root canal and then I am to come back to the office for the crown. I ask who is paying for all of this as none of this is my fault. I get no answer. They hand me a copy of my old X-Rays and a sheet with two highlighted names. They also hand me two prescriptions from Tylenol with codeine and an antibiotic. I have no infection and the pain only comes when I chew so I am not sure what the sense was for either. Basically I am holding Aspen Dental 100% responsible for what has happened. There is no way I am ever going to that office again. read more

I had been dragging my feet for literally years about going back to a dentist. With an anxiety disorder so severe, that I sometimes pass out, I was even searching for sedation dentistry. Well, I went to this Aspen Dental location for my initial appointment and am thrilled with all the staff & Dr.Burton! I am actually excited about going there again this coming Monday for my cleaning, and upcoming appointments! Not only are they welcoming, but gentle & explain things clearly. Another plus, is they allow you to pay per appointment instead of forcing you to pay one lump sum when having several things done. I HIGHLY recommend this dentist's office to anyone with any apprehension about going to the dentist! read more
