This is said in contrast to the last place I went where I swear they just wanted to make dental visits as painful as humanly possible. I've also found that they accept the insurance provided by almost every business in Crawfordsville. The highest amount I ever had to pay out of pocket was 20 bucks and that was after my first visit where they did about a million different X-rays since I had never been there before. Another thing I like is they give you a phone call at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to confirm. Usually its further in advance than that which is great since they only give a penalty charge for appointments canceled with less than 24 hours notice.

I get cold sores and Dr. Robling, (my dentist) told me about a laser procedure that they have, if, I should have an important event (like my sister's wedding this May) that will keep a sore from even appearing! So answering a call is a big thing to me these days! Nan is my hygienist and she's just lovely. I am amazed how she remembers the little things and details in my life. She was told she had to get a full set of xrays including the whole mouth xray in order to be seen. Nobody checked or asked if insurance covered these xrays. Of course they didn't cover the full mouth xray. I received a bill and called to dispute. I told the person at Aspen that if they would have checked with insurance they would have known that they weren't covered and could have given my wife an option. I decided to write a review because I have been reading nasty reviews (probably deserved) of other…read moredental offices in town, and I thought it might be nice to write a good review for a dental practice that definitely deserves it. I have been going to Dr Ortman since I moved to Lafayette in 2008 (I'm writing this in 2015). His staff has always been knowledgeable and friendly, and the dental hygienists are very good at what they do. Getting my teeth cleaned is not my favorite way to spend an hour, but they make it as pleasant as possible. The last hygienist I saw was Kirsten, and she was friendly, gentle, and even made me laugh a few times. There is a new dentist there, Nathan Webster, and not only is he a good dentist and explained everything clearly to me, but he's also easy on the eyes. Mmmm hmmm. Anyway, since my insurance is through Purdue (for grad students) and it's total crap, I had to pay out of pocket, about $245 for x-rays, exam, and cleaning. While that's not cheap for me at all, it's still better than going to the two places that are covered under my insurance, both of which magically see cavities that you don't have and run exorbitant, unnecessary treatments such as "deep cleaning" and "mouth cancer screen". Oh, and if you're from Dr. Ortman's practice and you're reading this: please update your website and add some pics of your new dentist. Thx.
