A year ago I had an appointment to get my teeth cleaned at 3pm. I rearranged my schedule, especially since I was going to be 30 miles away. As I was leaving for my appointment I get a message from their office saying they were going to have to reschedule. Nobody had a clue why I could not have been notified earlier. I didn't reschedule. In the meantime I was assigned different insurance, and even though I did not want to go back, Aspen was the closest in network. I thought this couldn't possibly happen again. Wrong! I show up for the appointment and I am non longer on the schedule! The receptionist, who I asked to give me a call if there were changes, said Oh, yeah, I was supposed to call you. This is a low quality dental office. I had a filling done at the office and they used a basic color which doesn't come close to matching my tooth color. Then told after insurance it would be 7500 for everything but oh we can get you approved for care credit. I'm in remission from cancer plus have one child going through health issues and helping to pay for a parent's care. Can't get approved for any plan. I'm not sure what just happened in the last couple months but I went in to get a cleaning they checked my numbers and found a couple of fives and a couple of fours but the rest were 3 and 2. So before the work had begun they Submitted this invoice down in front of me and said it would cost this much to do this scaling to bring my numbers down, I told them that I had a cavity in the bottom left and they wanted me to come back a week later to get it fixed I said no way it needs to be fixed ASAP so they scheduled me for an appointment the next day the dentist fixed it and I was fine but now my invoice from Aspen dental and my itemized detailed from my insurance company is not matching the invoice from Aspen dental is higher by 300.00 so now I have to call my insurance company to let them know that they're not matching because it says strictly on my form from the insurance company if our totals do not match to call the insurance company right away so that's what I'm doing tomorrow so we'll. Oh in the past when I have gone to a dentist office they would tell me or ask me if I wanted irrigation and said if you do your insurance company will not cover this so the patient had the option to decline the irrigation I wasn't even given that option they just added it to my invoice and I didn't realize it until I got home and it was $18 irrigation times four. And reading on some of these past reviews I really should've did my homework but it's a time this was the only place that my insurance company was part of to get the work done I think I need to change my insurance benefits as well and go back to my Other dentist..... CAN I SAY LAWSUIT!!!!!! THEY ARE SCAMMERS I went in for pain in my upper molar area. I was told I have no cavity in my upper area, but a cavity in my lower area. I also wanted a cleaning. They stated I had bone loss, so a regular cleaning was NOT an option, and that I needed a periodontal cleaning before they could proceed. My 10-15 minute cleaning cost me $1400.00. I'm from out of town. 2 weeks later, I went to my regular dentist in Michigan. No cavity in my lower area (filling fell out), and I DID have a cavity in my upper area, which needed immediate attention. According to my family dentist, a periodontal cleaning normally lasts about 2 hours. read more

I had my first appointment at Aspen this month. The atmosphere seems much more commercialised than I'm used to. They seemed to have a lot of up-sells and products they're trying to market. I have trouble understanding the business model; it seems they're a chain. In spite of my feelings about experience I have to say my mouth has never felt better. Aspen Dental in Bloomington, Illinois is easy to find and can be seen from a major street. It has adequate parking and the office is clean and has restrooms for clients. In dealing with the Bloomington franchise during 2018-2020, we found that it was capable of handling routine dental work, such as extractions, fillings, and cleaning. We also found that complex dental care, such as dentures, is not within its skill set, and numerous people, such as my wife, have experienced problems with misfitting dentures. The franchise tried to remake and refit the partials but there was no improvement. The office also has a high turnover rate, which effects the staff's ability to form long term relationships with clients. Just when we thought we knew the staff, they all disappeared and new people took over. It was unsettling to have entirely new office personnel every six months. The practice also seeks to limit clients' access to dental records by requiring them to sign a release form, although this is against state law. In addition, we were told that we had no further financial responsibility but the bills kept coming. Aspen Bloomington is OK for minor work but we do not recommend it for major dental work. read more

Very shady place. I should have looked up reviews before going. They did exam and x-rays and hygienist came to tell me what I needed done. This in hindsight sounded practiced and not just for my situation. I was then rushed to the financial office where I signed papers and was told I owe $1200. They said if I wasn't prepared to pay that they could sign me up for a credit card. Again my fault for signing and paying before it went to insurance. But it's not like i go to the dentist very often. Once I paid they said the hygienist is available today if I had time. 12 shots of anesthesia $103 each. $130 toothbrush I could have bought at Walmart and other unnecessary. Still owe 500 after insurance. Plus scheduled me another appt for today. I questioned if I would be charged again and they said yes so I canceled. I was the 4th person this morning to cancel with the hygienist. I did talk to the financial office where they promptly blamed me for signing paperwork. My family was clearly overcharged and I had an appointment with card in hand. The very apathetic group in the front did not apologize. They just told me I had to re-schedule. When I re-scheduled, it was a month out. I then went and got the card to show that I had an appt on that day! The apathetic front desk crew FINALLY apologized when I showed absolute proof that it was their error! Still, they could do nothing! So, I asked to speak to the doctor! A "manager" came out and I just wanted my family to be able to go elsewhere! They would not discount anything or "work" with me in any way! Bad service, literally insurance fraud on part of the bill. I had a great experience at Aspen Dental especially with Erin, Megan and Dr. Rai. They made me feel like family and made sure I was comfortable for every visit. Dr. Rai was my primary dentist and she did a great job with my visit. And they also have very reasonable prices so if you visit Aspen for the great prices make sure you get Dr.Rai as your dentist. Very impressed! The dental assistant who did most of the interacting with me, Viola, was superb! Her attitude, laid-back silliness, pleasant demeanor, and vivacious personality won me over. The overall professionalism and friendliness of the entire staff is nothing short of amazing. Of equal importance is the fact they are able to get me my new dentures in approximately 48 hours... far quicker than the 60 days other places in town have told me. Aspen Dental got me in for a same day appointment for a tooth I was having pain in and they decided I needed a root canal. I hadn't had my teeth cleaned in 8 months. Yes I needed a root canal but they didn't offer to help with pain relief and said they needed to clean my teeth first and then do root canal. They wanted to wait two weeks, in pain, until my cleaning and then another month out until root canal. I have good private insurance and I asked if we could just proceed with root canal. Nope. So the next day I was at home eating rice (hurt to eat) and the tooth they were going to work on broke in half. Also, their pricing is a rip off. They wanted $400 if I got the tooth pulled even after insurance. I went to a new dentist today that I liked a lot more than Aspen Dental and I'd pay $46 after insurance, instead of the $400. I had a dry socket packed there twice and traveled to Miami the same week. I needed my xrays sent over to another office because I was in such sever pain. I sent a release over and was told I'd have to wait two weeks. I called the office and was very polite about it. I was using challenging questions just asking what they do in these situations when patients need emergency work done and need xrays done. They stayed if I were in town I'd come in and sign the paper there. This didn't answer my question at all so I asked again and was put on hold without telling me I was getting put on hold. The next staff member picked up the phone and answered with an attitude "do you need help with something." I had explained that I was not upset and just suggesting that this is something that should be fixed without their system. She was extremely rude and said that they were tired of going around explaining things to me. Im surprised for this dental office to have staff that were so rude and emotionally reactive when questioned. I wasn't looking for a different response but merely trying to tell them this was a huge gap in patient care. Would not recommend and very disappointed with how they handled this. Our family would like to personally thank Dr Elaine Dossett and her wonderful staff at Aspen Dental in Bloomington, Illinois for the exceptional care and compassion that they showered our 85 year old mother Helen with during her recent visit. It's not often, we are sure, that a dental team encounters a patient who has had the same pair of dentures for 57 years (yes, 57 years!) and has had no real dental care during those years. Dr Dossett and her team went above and beyond to allay our mother's fears and make the whole denture experience one that was not only calming, but fun as well. She took the time to carefully explain the whole process to our mother and answer our myriad of questions. And we can't say enough about the genuine love and caring displayed by the whole dental team. It was as though they were treating a member of their very own family. I went into Aspen Dental on a whim. I'll be completely honest and say that I did not read any reviews on them before I chose them as a dentist; I simply looked at the alphabetical list on my insurance providers list and chose from the top. Huge mistake I went in and had my exam and consultation. I sat down with the dentist as we looked over my X-rays. Now, I did not know what to expect considering it had been two years since my last visit to the dentist, but I do not eat sugary foods, drink soda or sugary drinks (water and black coffee), and I brush 2-3 times per day. I was in total shock when the dentist said that I needed to have 6 cavities filled and that I was in need of two crowns. The kicker was that there was a possibility that those crowns would be root canals but he wouldn't know until he did the crown work if it was going to turn to root canal. I accepted what he said and sat down with one of their in house finance people. She worked out the bill and as it was I was going to be paying nearly $3,000 for the work that needed to be done (my insurance is for preventative only). We scheduled the appointments and that was that. I went in for my first two appointments which were just basic cleanings. I will say that the cleanings were very quick and efficient. I enjoyed them as much as you could possibly enjoy cleanings. The next day I went into work and someone warned me that I needed to get a second opinion b/c Aspen is a shady company to do business with. I proceeded to go home after work and do a little "Google-ing" of the company. The search results.... Wow.. I could not believe what I was reading. I cancelled out all of my future appointments and went to a smaller local dentist to get a second opinion. I sat down with this dentist, he looked at my xrays, and told me that I had 3 cavities. It was going to cost about $280 to get them filled. I replied, "What about crowns? What about 3 other cavities that I was told at Aspen?" He replied, "There are a couple of spots that could be potential cavities in the future but it is of no concern right now. As of crowns, there is nothing on the xrays that say you would need crowns at all." Local dentist = 2 cavities, under $300 Dental corporation= 6 cavities 2 crowns (potential root canals) = $3,000 Do yourself a favor and Google Aspen Dental and read the other reviews. When you're new to the area, you're at the mercy of computer comments and reviews when looking for pretty much anything. Deciding on your new dentist via this method can be a bit intimidating, but you go with the locals and I can see why this business gets the 'thumbs up' that they do. Just completed my third visit here and, as usual. it was fantastic. Don't know everyone's names yet, but Drs. Lockhardt and Dossett ,Andrea, Lynn and everyone else in the office have been excellent! With Dominique walking me through the financial end of it, I feel very much at ease. Everyone is friendly, willing to help and, most importantly, willing to listen. well today is june 10 over 6 weeks and still no proper teeth , I will see if the dentist and his lab tech. will notices what is wrong. . when you tell them something the only answer you get is they will fit don't worry. well so far they don't fit. I never needed to use that fix dent on my old teeth top. before . and I don't and should not needed to use it on my new ones bottom don't fit on my gums. they just laid on top of the gums. not over the gums. if I am ask what kind of teeth I paid for. it should not make a diff. well I got the top of the line. so far the top of the line looks like kids were making them. we will see what will happed today. I would give Aspen lower then a one star if possible. My strongest advice would be to avoid this place at all costs. The office staff was wonderful but the dentist (when they have one that's not just a fill in) seems less then knowledgeable. For one procedure I had 3 going on 4 different dentists working on my tooth until I finally said no more you are done and I'm going elsewhere. At one point they were ready to give me an unnecessary shot and on top of that IN THE WRONG location for a tooth I wasn't even having work done on. They have messed my tooth up so bad. And trying to get a refund from them-worse then a nightmare. Going on 6 months now and still fighting them!!! And until I get the refund from Aspen sent back to my insurance company I am sitting here with an exposed tooth all of these months. If you read these reviews looking for advice on where to go for dental work-DO NOT go to Aspen. And it's not just the one in Bloomington. Went to Aspen Dental upon the recommendation of our Insurance Co.. When I called for an appt. and to verify our insurance we were told everything was fine and proceeded forward with two appointments. The first set of appointments were fine until we received a bill for the full balance. I called the office where I was told it was an error and everything would be resolved and to continue with our second appt.. When we showed for our second appt., after services were completed, the office manager told us that our service wasn't accepted and we would be responsible for the charges. I clearly explained what we were told by the ins. company and by their office person. The offered to clear all costs; I refused therefore we settled on $19 per person. AND NOW... I receive a bill in the mail for $758.00... the full amount!!! THIS IS COMPLETELY WRONG!!
