Dining car waiting for our train ride
    Cori B.

Aspen Crossing is a preserved piece of private track that runs some restored old cars and locomotives. You can sign up for all kinds of experiences - Polar Express for the kiddos at Christmas, plays, music on board, brunch or dinner on board ect. They have build quite a little enterprise. There is a dining car restaurant, train station gift shop/nursery with an event tent attached, a campground (you can rent out a caboose if that's something on your bucket list) and they the train itself which travels back and forth on their preserved tracks for people to enjoy the praire landscapes. This restored train ride the second of it's kind in AB (the other is closer to Edmonton) but Mossleigh is a easy breezy 45 minutes from Calgary. There are two grain elevators along their tracks (something that's disappearing fast and furious from our landscapes) there are rolling hills and big skys. When we did our trip, we saw deer and coyotes running around in the fields. There is a candy cabose for some snacks and a lounge car for some drinks. You're free to hang out in the cars, caboose, open air car, or check out all the different cars that each have a different history. When we rolls by the campground the kids and photographers were out to check out the action so we waved at them. Over all it's a pretty relaxed event, the train robbery was kind of interesting, but it's mostly just a fun thing to do in the country for a morning/afternoon or evening. Our ride didn't come with dinner so we ate in the dining car which used to be John Diefenbaker's private car when he was PM ( food was over priced but good - you're a big of a captive audience out there) I wouldn't make this a "must repeat" but I would do it again. I would recommend it for train lovers, kids, and city dwellers that forget what the country is like.

Great little escape from the city. Nice restaurant. Tasty food. Regular special events. Dinner theatre. Friday Prime Rib Evenings. Gift shop is nice to browse. We come out regularly to visit family at the campground. Every year this place is busier. Come discover Aspen Crossing for your self. You won't regret it.

Poor, unfriendly, condescending service as always. The last time I shopped at BikeBike 8 years ago…read morethe service was awful. I went back today for the first time since and nothing has changed. Sadly, I was forced to go there for a specific product that was out of stock elsewhere in the city. Worst bike shop in Calgary in my opinion. I would recommend The Bike Shop, Ridley's, Bow Cycle, and Bike & Brew if you want friendly, knowledgeable staff. Many years ago, Sean, the owner of BikeBike and I were on a group ride together and we had a conversation about a bike I purchased from his shop. I mentioned that I hadn't brought it back for the first complimentary tune up yet but well over a year expired since I purchased the bike. Sean told me that it was no problem and that he'd still tune it up for me free of charge. I brought the bike in a few days later and he tried to charge me for the tune up. I remined him of the conversation that happened a few days earlier but he denied the conversation ever happened. I don't think you'll see me in 8 years Sean. I do know that anyone with a set of ears will hear about the crappy service that I received 8 years ago as well as last week.

Odds are you will be greeted by Sean when you walk through the door! He is a friendly chap, which a great smile and lots of laughs to share. You will instantly feel like you have met a new friend. He & his staff are awesome! Great customer service seems to come naturally to this place! They have a variety of bikes, from Strider bikes for the wee ones, to SERIOUS bikes for SERIOUS people. Lots to please people like me, that just like to cruise and fart around, without getting to sweaty. (What can I say? I'm an outta shape girly girl.) The cargo bikes are pretty cool to check out. They honestly have something for everyone. Even if you have never ridden a bike before. Come prepared to take a bike out for a spin around the block. Looking for accessories? They have ridiculously awesome helmets, bags, baskets, seats, yadda yadda yadda! It is worth a trip in just to check out all the cool stuff they have. (OH! They have wicked toboggans too.) While they are very pro-bicycle lifestyle living, there is no sense of judgement for those of us that lean towards a more car-friendly lifestyle. They simply love to share their knowledge and ideas. Have questions? They will always answer them. Their service is top notch! Best to get your bike in early for pre-season maintenance as they get busy. You know that things will be fixed up right when you take your bike there. Check it out! You will be glad you did. (PS - Check out their new sign outside the shop. It's hilarious! A true testament to their sense of love for life & humour.)

I spent the last month researching all things mountain bikes - I bought my last bike in 2001... it's been quite the learning curve. Bikes are in limited supply in Calgary, and some shops are using the global scarcity as a way to pressure a purchase, or at the least, get a 30% deposit. I restarted my search a month ago, beginning at Pure. Great experience. I demoed a couple different bikes. Then, I demoed two more bikes at CC Bow Trail (not so positive - more interested in making a sale than helping me), and then another demo at a Bowness shop (very positive experience). Yesterday, having narrowed down my search, I went back into Pure. Coming in at 5:30pm (they close at 6pm) didn't phase them. Cole was the sales rep and treated me great, as did other guys who helped me choose some pedals. The store was closing, and here Cole is offering me a demo ride. Even though I was somewhat certain about my purchase, Cole never once rushed me or the sale. It was around 6:30pm when I paid for the bike - 30min past closing. Big thanks to the guys at CC Pure. Helpful, patient, kind... and one happy customer with a new Santa Cruz Bronson + new set of clip-in pedals. Sincere gratitude for all the help.

Reworks Upcycle Shop is like a DIY Pinterest board in the form of a real local business... except…read morethe products are actually amazing quality because professionals made them and not me! And if we wanna talk local, more than half their products are made in Canada and 99% from North America. We're talking indestructible messenger bags made out of used seat belts that go as far as to tell you what kind of car they were salvaged from. I stumbled across Reworks without a clue what to expect, wound up doing a good chunk of my Christmas shopping here, and will be back to do a tonne more! Here's what I found: - Purses made from pop can tabs creating a high quality aluminum chainmaille. ( I bought 2 of 'em) - Bottle openers from used bicycle chains. (I hope someone buys me one ;) ) - Bowls from used bike chains...actually, there's a lot of bicycle culture reflected in this store, which I think makes it all the more cool. The owner is a true bicycle fan and her store takes my lifelong love of bikes and brings it into the rest of my lifestyle with style. Used license plate clutches, bike tire belts, wine and beer bottle serving trays, chandeliers and everything. I imagine the product selection at Reworks changes often to keep reclaimed fresh, but even if all the awesome things I've mentioned no longer exist by the time you read my review, you'll still be able to expect high quality and unbelievably creative local products here. If you've ever uttered the term "shabby chic" you need to check this place out.

The store was so busy, it was lined up down the block, but I didn't have to wait very long as the staff have a system where they come out and take care of whoever they can. They are doing a remarkable job. It was apparent that Mark was busy, in a rush, and working very hard, but he didn't rush me when it came to getting my needs met. I was very impressed with his professionalism and productivity. The company is lucky to have him and I'm sure they know that. My bike was ready for pickup earlier than expected and he called to let me know I could come pick it up if I wanted rather than just wait for me to come back the following day. The test ride was a success, the parts Mark chose for me based on our phone conversation were better than the original parts. He is very intuitive and knows how to make the customer happy. I maybe could have sourced out better prices, but then I probably wouldn't be on the road yet. The process of taking my mangled bike and getting it in better than original condition was so easy thanks to Mark. I will stay loyal to Bow Cycle and recommend them to others.

I was told they could not hold it and to buy online. It sold before I finished work. After I left feedback, their team texted me to apologize and promised they would train their staff better on holding procedure. On Wednesday night, their website showed two of these bikes back in stock. Following their previous instructions, I purchased one immediately and my card was processed. On Thursday, a manager contacted me to cancel the order, claiming someone else bought it first. When I expressed my intense frustration at being misled twice on a $3,000 purchase, the staff was dismissive. When I requested to speak to the owner, the owner called me back simply to defend his broken inventory system and shift all blame away from his business. Taking a customer's money for an item you do not have, and having two issues in a very short time frame is unacceptable. If you are looking to make a major financial investment in a bike, go to a shop that has a functional website and respects your time and interest in the "lifestyle" that is being promoted.
