Once I found it (had a little trouble with that ~ it's much closer to the "Arena" then it looked on the map on my phone) and checked in, I was still suspect of what type of hotel it was, as the reception area was just a different set up then what I'm familiar with ~ more like a doctors office or other business that takes place in private sections of a building. I found the receptionist to be very very helpful and knowledgeable of the area ~ very helpful. The refreshment and snack area had many good options and food and beverage was available throughout the night. My room, two twin beds, was very nice, modern interior and the shower was bigger than most other places I stayed. I was very pleased with the room. Catching a taxi was no problem the evening of my stay and the following morning. If I return to Goteborg I will definitely stay at Hotel Arena again. I really felt the quality of stay exceeded my expectations. I also found their rates much more reasonable than other hotels in the area.

I did a city tour and then the Marstrand tour the following day. Both were excellent and we were blessed with amazing weather for September. I was also pleasantly surprised on how good the lunches were. This is not the first time I've had to keep busy while my husband works so I've gone on several tours in the past while on vacation. The food is never good. The food was great both days this time. Helena is very knowledgeable, easy to talk to and also a excellent driver. I would recommend using her if you're in town and need someone to show you around. :)

I can't BELIEVE they call themselves a 4-star hotel and that this is supposed to be the top brand of the Choice hotels group. First of all it is the UGLIEST hotel. The furniture is cheap and old and ugly. The rooms (and we were staying in the nicest room) were sparse and depressing. We were supposed to have an equipped kitchen and we had barely anything. Two plates, one bowl, a pair of mismatched silverware, and NO glasses! The bathroom looks like something out of an airport. The only amenities we got were shampoo and a half empty bottle of conditioner. The lobby had a 10-ft Christmas tree that had a single string of lights wrapped around the top half of it and about seven ornaments total with a tiny little pile of staff presents underneath it. The reception desk doubled as the bar and the lone person working there had to work both. We tried ordering food at their "restaurant"--NOT an actual restaurant at all--and were told that WE WOULD HAVE TO WARM UP OUR PLATES OF FOOD BECAUSE IT WAS FROM YESTERDAY! WHAT??! Their buffet was awful. The soup was over salted and over peppered, the fruit was old, and you had to pick up silverware from the reception desk/bar... There is no excuse for a hotel like this in a city like Gothenburg and to call themselves 4-star is extremely duplicitous. If we had been staying more than one night we would have checked out early and found a different hotel. Especially since the windows even on the seventh floor blocked out none of the noise from the trains and we got no sleep. Just unbelievable. I can't even comment on the service because it was just so irrelevant in the context of everything else.

Just grab a bike at one station bike to your next stop and park the bike, For SEK125 you can use the bikes as much as you want from March 1 to Dec 1. As long as you use it only 30 minutes at a time it will cost no extra. If you use it more than 30 minutes you will be extra charged and keeping the bike for many hours will be expensive (fee is SEK40 per 30 min after 1 hour!!), so if you need more than 30 mins to arrived at your station just return the bike along the way and get another free 30 minutes. This you can do for as many times as you want. Just wait a few minutes at each station to check out the bike again. You can also use this service for 3-days - perfect for visitors! Cost is SEK10 for all 3 days! Unfortunately you cannot just go to any station, pay and pick up a bike. You either need to register online for a membership OR go to one of the specified station with credit card possibilities. Even if the rental cost is only SEK10 a deposit of 140 SEK is required. Also your card needs a chip and PIN to be good for payment. The only thing you need to think about is that you can never just bike to the place you are going to, you always need to look for the nearest station. This is a bit difficult for me to remember! Stations are every 400 meters so I never have a problem finding a station, and if one is empty or full it is never far to the next station. The one thing I could wish for, is that the last stations (furthest out) could be beyond Linnégatan. There is an app for free for keeping time and finding stations - perfect! They do not accept AMEX.

I arrived at 0930 after several long flights from the States. They were quite accommodating while they prepared my room. I was able to check in at 1100. There are several pictures of the updated rooms already on Yelp. The picture I posted is the view from my room. Odd numbered rooms have an interior view, while even numbered rooms have an outside view of Gothenburg. When you check in, make sure you let them know if you have a preference. The gym is small, but the equipment is new and very high tech. For example, the weightlifting equipment has a display that shows you the proper speed for your lifting cycle. There is also a full service Spa onsite as well There are two restaurants on-site, the Atrium and Noot Nordic Kitchen. The included breakfast is nothing less than astonishing. It puts cruise ships to shame. There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby, and the main train station is just across the street, as is the expansive Nordstan shopping mall.

I told her we would take even a standard room. She immediately checked us into an executive suite. The room overlooked the central station and met our needs. We stayed here again toward the end of our stay and this time we got the Superior suite overlooking the lounge. Both rooms had their own charm but if you're a light sleeper I recommend getting a room that faces the inside atrium of the hotel not the street. I slept great in both rooms. Our favorite part about this hotel apart from the decor, great staff and location was the breakfasts. We fell in love with Gothenburg and I believe this hotel played a part in that. When visiting Scandinavia I will try to book stays in Radisssons when possible.

From the abundant food options inside the hotel to the blocks around, there were plenty of varieties to keep it interesting. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and the beds are good for a decent sleep. The bathroom is ok size and a cool perk is the heated towel racks. Iron, fridge, television, the usual standards are all available with ample closet space. The staff is astoundingly caring and go the extra step to make the trip memorable. On a few occasions, the staff went above and beyond for anything I needed help with. Also, with sporadic rain showers, feel free to borrow an umbrella from the front guest services!
