It seems that one of the inevitabilities of a town with a degree of affluence like Lewes, is that it attracts generic pasta chains like flies. Witness in Lewes the existence of an ASK, a Prezzo, and a Pizza Express, all within 5 minute of one another. It is a shame, in my opinion, that large chains like these are best equipped to afford the rent in high street shops in expensive locations, but it is a fact of reality, and ultimately people will keep going back to places that serve familiar, easy food like pasta and pizza. There is very little to differentiate these establishments in my opinion, probably the best thing that ASK Lewes has going for it though is its location. A lovely building bang in the middle of the high street with a glass frontage. Other than that everything is exactly as you would expect. Moderate prices, average service, average food. In fairness to them, another advantage of the identikit set-up of these restaurants is that they can generally serve you quite quickly. I went in for lunch with the proviso that I had to be in and out in half an hour, and my food did arrive in under 10 minutes. I didn't quite finish my glass of wine before I left, but that was more because I didn't want to return to work pissed, than the time it took to come. read more
