My partner and I did not have terribly high expectations for this place, but simply hoped for a decent dinner given the long waits for some of the better restaurants in the area. There were ample tables available here, which might have told us something.
Service: We wanted to sit side-by-side, and asked the server if we could sit at one of the tables for four, given the large number of empty spaces in the restaurant. The server informed us that a party for four had reserved it, but this table and many others like it sat empty the entire time we were there, and we were one of the last customers to leave. While the staff were very polite for the most part, it seemed that most were quite new, as they knew very little about the menu items and twice brought food to the wrong tables.
Food (£44 total): An £8.95 "dessert sharing board," which came with three small, dry, flavorless pieces of cake and two scoops of ice cream, would have been poor value for even half the price. The £1.95 decaf americano ordered with said dessert arrived when we were almost finished. The £5.95 calamari with garlic mayo was tasty but very, very greasy. The £11.25 salmon was healthy enough but undersized and unexciting. The £11.95 "Salsiccia" pizza was advertised as "meaty" and "spicy." While this was undoubtedly the high point of the menu, it could hardly be described as "meaty." My £3.95 glass of shiraz was virtually undrinkable; I'm not even sure it was a shiraz.
In Sum: Our untrained servers suggest a high turnover, and indeed, this is the kind of place where you end up feeling sorry for the staff. Ask charges the kind of money you'd expect to pay for decent food, but I've had more exciting Sainsbury's sandwiches. For £44 one could do much, much better. read more
