This place is fascinating for someone who's never been to an international grocery store before. It's clean and tidy. Everyone was very nice. I was a bit like a deer in headlights, but it was busy when I went in New Year's Eve so didn't ask for help. They have some amazing stuff. I love how clean and well taken care of this market is. Their wasbi seaweed snacks and miso paste are my favorites to get here. Given this is South Carolina I didn't have high hopes for variety however, there are plenty of options here. By far the best Asian market I have found. Pleasantly surprised by the selection here! I was most impressed with finding the boba ice cream bars that have been sold out everywhere (I have literally been looking for the past year)!! It looks like their fish section was closed due to COVID-19, and the hours were adjusted for 11am-6pm. The only thing I could not find when I went in was a specific brand of tapioca pearls, but I did find all the other staples I was looking for and then some (Yakult, peanut mochi, shrimp chips, etc.). I also like that a vast majority of their products are from Taiwan (for those who may not know, Taiwan's equivalent of the FDA has safety guidelines most similar to US, unlike many other Asian countries, so I'm much more trusting of their food and nutrition labels). Some of the products I found that were not made in Taiwan were products that came from very well-known brands (i.e. The Alley, weichuan, and Calbee), which is encouraging to see. Very impressed with the quality and selection for a Columbia-area Asian grocery mart, and the staff was very kind, understanding, and funny! Highly recommend. read more

This store definitely lives up to its name! I was visiting my friend in Lexington and I wanted to test out a new pho recipe with her since we used to eat so much pho together when we we both lived in Hawaii. Our kids LOVE anything noodle! Now, if you have ever made pho or have ever eaten one, you know that even though it seems like a simple noodle soup, there are a few key ingredients that are crucial. For instance, the Thai Basil CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT be replaced with regular basil, the one you use typically in Italian cooking. So, good ol' trusty Yelp came to the rescue and found me this little gem close to her home to get all the supplies we needed to make our pho. Parking: they have their own lot. Selection: This store gets 5 stars alone for having beef bones, a rare find in most conventional grocery stores. Beef bones are an essential ingredient for all kinds of soups for all asian cuisine. Here we also found the Thai Basil that is an absolute MUST to top the pho. We also found the rice noodles there too, the star of the dish! As we zig-zagged through every aisle, I couldn't help but be a tad jealous of my friend for having this kind of store in Columbia. I noticed that there was a good selection of ingredients and products needed to cook dishes all across Asia. I am no expert in the other Asian cuisines and cook mainly Korean, but I have cooked a few dishes here and there and they seemed to have everything that ai have needed in the past like rice paper to make spring rolls, thai curry pastes, dumpling skins, a variety of different vegetables used in Asian cooking like mung beans sprouts and garlic chives. I was also impressed at the Korean selection as a lot of these specific ingredients are found at korean grocery stores. They also had snacks from all over asia. I recognized a lot of Korean snacks, but there were others from other asian countries as well. I can't read the other languages, but recognized the writing like Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Filipino. When you walk in, the far right starts with all the refrigerated stuff as well as frozen items and continues with all the snacks, sauces, etc and ends with the gadget section. I LOVE checking this section in all asian specialty grocery stores bc they have some cool things and gadgets you can find in Asia and just reminds me of my childhood in Korea. Prices - everything seemed very reasonably priced. Nothing outrageous. For example, The beef bones were $1.50/lb and my friend bought ready-to-eat, seasoned Seaweed Papers in packs of 3 that was on sale for $1.25. Service - there was a nice lady at the cash who was very helpful with all of the the questions I had. Overall, the store was clean and service was friendly. I forgot to take pictures of the store itself but I did take pics of the final product. Very impressed with the easy online grocery pickup! Even includes fresh produce on their site! A lot of local mom and pop shops can learn from Asian Market on how to use 21st century tech to move forward in the time to COVID. The shop is temporarily closed, but a lot of their most popular products have been listed online. Just place an order and wait for the pickup ready email. Drop by, call the pickup number, and they place your groceries on a cart outside for you to scoop up. Social distancing game A+. read more

This store is very organized and well-stocked. Parking is easy and plentiful. If you can't find it just ask the manager/owner and he will walk you over to where it is stored. He will offer product recommendations and advice if you ask. AND they have the large Sriracha bottles. It's not cheap, but run over pronto before his stock is all gone. I just moved to Columbia recently and found it on google. To my surprise it's NOT on Yelp yet!!! It's very close to where I live in downtown Columbia area. The parking lot of this store is huge compared to other Chinese grocery stores. The store inside is spacious. The clerks and owner are helpful too. I will definitely shop here more. read more

This was my first visit to this market. It was an overall great visit. For the most part it was easy to find what I was looking for and the produce looked fresh. My only "complaint" is that the produce wasn't all labeled with a name and price so you had to decide on taking the chance or not. I've lived in Columbia for about three years now and I've yet to find an Asian grocery store that compares to this one in size, product variety, customer service, and cleanliness. I'm originally from the West Coast so I've been spoiled with Greenland and Seafood City (large Korean and Filipino grocery stores, respectively). So I know my Asian grocery stores, and I'm so happy there's one like this in Columbia. I found out quickly that many Asian grocery stores here sell predominantly Chinese, Thai, Korean, and Vietnamese products. But Filipino and Japanese brands are pretty limited outside of the Asian Market. It's also the only Asian grocery store I've been to that sells the basic Filipino brands and then some; and they sell Japanese brands and snacks I don't find anywhere else in Columbia, like Green Tea Kit Kats. The owners are a married couple and they are so sweet! They're also willing to put in orders for products they don't carry. Just yesterday the wife said she was planning on putting in an order with Goldilocks (Filipino brand) and asked if there was anything I wanted since, if you haven't figured it out by now, I'm Filipino. They remember their customers and are very accommodating to their wants and needs. They also tell me when they're having a sale on products I usually buy or if there's a better price for something I already have in my cart. It doesn't hurt either that they always help me carry my groceries to my car when I shop with my little one. I highly recommend the Asian Market. It's not just my go-to Asian store; it's one of my regular grocery stores when it's time for a grocery run. Give them a try. read more

Yes Columbia has an Asian market. I too was amazed at the fact. They have a ton of stuff there. However they didn't have a few of the basics, like lemon grass and they were completely out of Basil. I really didn't understand that. That said I will go back. read more

If you are like me and need gluten free alternatives, this is the place to go. They have rice noodles, mung bean noodles, corn starch noodles, even sweet potato starch noodles. I went from no noodles to noodles galore!! Look on the last isle for tapioca starch and gluten free flours.(Make your own noodles) I'm not Asian, but it sure would benefit us all to learn more about Asian foods. We love this market and drive over from the Columbia Mall area to shop here. Good prices on stuff you need that costs a lot more at the regular grocery store. There are plenty go interesting things to look at that I don't eat and plenty of things to stock up on. The owner/manager is nice and helpful to the those not lucky enough to have an Asian friend to guide them through the store the first couple of times. Fresh vegetables, frozen goodies, Asian junk food, ramen by the truckload, rice, noodles, canned goods...well, it is a grocery store with Asian food. They also have a good stock of mostly reasonably priced cookware, dinnerware, and kitchen helpers. Oh, and soaps, incense, and chotchkes. We love this place! read more

I'm so glad there are places like this in columbia. it's a little far for me but honestly, the amount of time i would spend driving to 3 little grocery stores on decker blvd, i could just come here to pick everything up at once. I would like to see more of a variety here but the fact that they have usually everything i need is good. I may just be spoiled growing up on an island where asian stores are a dime a dozen. The best thing about this market is that they carry foods that are korean, chinese, vietnamse, laos, etc. I mean really, i can get frozen dim sum here and buy stuff to make pho??! sweet! They also have fresh vegetables that you can purchase. Apparently they get most their deliveries on wednesday so don't go there on in the beginning of the week as you'll be purchasing older produce and veggies. read more

This place has it all! I'm very happy that we have one of these in Columbia. They do have fresh vegetables however all the seafood and meat are frozen. They have a whole aisle just for tea which was very impressive. The only downside is say is that when it comes to looking for certain frozen foods you'll have to search because there is no clear separation for all the foods. read more

My trip to this place could not have made me any happier. I went looking for massaman curry paste, which is pretty specific, and not only did I find it, but they had two brands to choose from. Because I couldn't just pick up one item from this wonderland of Asian specialty foods, I also got a variety of ramen, pho broth concentrate (this exists???), rice noodles, thai basil, and red bean mochi ice cream(yessssss). The woman at the cash register was so friendly and helped me find everything I needed, but, with labels in English and Chinese, I was able to navigate pretty well on my own too. Finding decent Asian groceries in Columbia can be a little difficult but for the most part, this place has what I look for. They offer good quality hard to find produce here as well as a nice selection of kimchi. I think they are one of the bigger Asian markets out here so it's more of a one stop shop than going to the little ones out on Decker. The pricing is reasonable for the area too. read more
