I've cornered a few Asians in my day. You know, robberies and what not. But I don't discriminate. I rob all demographics. I use the money to buy food which I then Yelp about. See it's all about balance. This is the heart of Chinatown in Charlotte, which is actually quite extensive and widespread with little pockets all over the region. But this particular Mall in the Northeast is where a lot of action happens - especially of the Vietnamese variety. Including an excellent Banh Mi shop which makes really delicious sugar cane and smoothies in particular the guava. One of the most worn out parking lots in history though, which is why it scores 4. As mentioned, be weary driving in, major potholes, an obstacle course for sure... Inside is a sight to see. Close to abandoned. Falling apart, empty fountain, garbage smeared about. A few Asian shops, mainly grocery store, Ton of variety inside (brands, food I've never seen). It's hard not to wander around a few minutes and wonder what was....? We decided to try the Dim Sum restaurant in this "mall" since The place we used to go "Dim Sum Chinese Restaurant l" on Central closed during Covid. What a dive! The food was dim sum we ordered was just ok but the ambience and the filth in the restaurant made mediocre food just bad. Avoid this place. read more

I come here about twice a month. This place has two grocery stores, a few restaurants inside (dont be surprised by the vacant appearing view), and an awful parking lot. I gave this place three stars for 2 reasons, 1st- extremely unkept inside the grounds 2nd- that damn parking lot , make sure you have good tires. It has been over 20 + yrs and the owners are so dam cheap they don't want to fix the parking lot or the building. I love to go support my Asian folks... but there's other Asian market that has better parking. They're not supporting my axil, alignments, or tires when it hits those holes. A few questions out there... 1. Did a mysterious meteorite hit this plaza mall years ago as a result of their jagged, crater-sized pot holes from another dimension? 2. For those who are successful at reaching the establishment without having to go through the parking lot like it's a drag race obstacle....are you guys using run-flat tires? 3. Did the economy tank so bad in 2009, where this so-called mall is now unaesthetically pleasing to enter or access? 4. Will our NC taxes ever attribute to rebuilding this place from scratch? Don't know much about the history of this shopping center, but I sense it used to be great before most of the small businesses began to close. If it wasn't without that legendary Banh Mi place, I would of gave this area including the two horrific grocery stores situated next to each other a solid 1 star. Like other reviewers I had to take off a star due to the parking lot. The pot holes are massive & everywhere so drive slow, look out and be careful ( if you don't want to blow a tire). The store smells AWFUL... I know most stores that sell this kind of stuff stinks but the stench from this place was BAD. Yikes. This plaza is a safety hazard driving through. Tons of pot holes and the "mall" itself is very run down. There's still many business' that are thriving to survive it would be beneficial for their business' if the landlord can help them out by renovating the place. So many abandoned shops. So sad to see. It may look shabby from the outside, but inside is some of the best Dim Sum I've had in the Charlotte area - at the Dragon Court Restaurant. The staff is very acommodating and patient with those of us who have questions. Also don't miss the Banh Mi at the Vietnamese sandwich shop inside the mall. (Forget the $5 footlong at Subway...get one twice as good for half the price here!) I agree with Tony that the parking lot could use some serious work. It's like the surface of the moon! However, I've never been panhandled there, except for one time a guy asked to bum a cigarette. No worries here about security during the day, but I would be cautious after dark, like in any city this size. read more

Asian Corner Mall. It's unique, that's true. Some people might see it as a run down place, but I've grown to be fond of the place because it gives me the things I need to make a authentic meal. Is it the safest place in the world? Eh..., but what place in Charlotte is? Just be careful when you are there. Let's be honest, this place isn't the most eye catching place in town. Would I call this pace unsafe? No. Just mind your own business and do what you have to do. Isn't that the general rule in life though? Lol. Just be alert when driving and be wise about your choice of a parking space. Building and parking lot are extremely run down! The grocery stores are typical, althought they are well stocked. The pho joint, it's okay. It'll do the job, i guess. Bahn mi and bubble tea in both locations are good. Ducks, roast pork, and other eatery items are good as well. I've had dim sum in dragon court and again it'll do the job. I'd love seeing someone put a bit more care and effort into this place. I wonder what this place looked like when it first opened up. The parking lot looks like it had been bombed and there is plenty of space to have a carnival. The highlight of this fine neighborhood commercial property is the bahn mi shop inside. The elder folk who run the place remind me of my aunts and uncles working the kitchen and I couldn't have felt more welcome than I did today. The #1 le's combination sandwich was amazing and consistent. I bought 3 of them today and it was perfectly toasted, crispy, and exactly portioned in every bite. We also bought the $0.80 banquette that my kids devoured. If I didn't live so far away, I would come here often. Not sure what their boba tastes like, but I'll go for it the next time around. There is a chinese restaurant around the corner of this sandwich shop and I'm skeptical to eat there again, considering I had massive diarrhea after a main dish there. I don't remember what I ordered because it was more than 12 years ago. Go in a crowd, because I wouldn't feel safe coming here on my own, even during the day. That's just my two cents. read more

The outside looks fine but once you get inside it's a ghost town. There's really nothing in here at all besides a gift shop and the Bahn Mi place. Many of the shops are closed and vacant. Otherwise if you're craving a Bahn Mi that's the only reason to step on in. read more

I practically grew up in this mall. My parents run the tax and accounting corner store here and I have many stories that make me hold this mall dear to me. However, for this review I will put all that aside and give the mall an honest review. It has potholes. That's disgusting lol. Any lowered car better know where their wheels are positioned because it takes some skill to come in smooth. It is barren inside and pretty lonely for a mall. The floor is unkept and the place pretty much lost a lot of its people after we stopped holding the infamous new year celebration in the mall. (Packed the entire mall from side to side) To comment on the shadiness or sketchiness of his place. It's really not as sketch as people think it is. Nowadays everything is very quiet. Peaceful even. Most people are here for a reason and get to it. Now to the good bits. Le's Sandwich is definitely a huge plus. It was named Charlotte's number one banh mi place and they get every point of recognition they deserve. The owner inside is hardworking and friendly. As someone who has been here a long time I know him personally. Truc's Pho is good, I've gotten tired of it, but I still crave it at times. That's all I've really got to say. Now, there's a new Pho shop inside the mall called Pho Plus. They make good Pho and Boba here as well. From what I've heard about Truc it beats a lot of other Pho places in CLT and Pho Plus doesn't fall too far behind. To put an end to my post. I'd like to share one of my best experiences here at the mall. I once met a homeless guy named Bob. He didn't deserve to be homeless but he was. This place is straight up ghetto! Parking is horrible, cracks and bumps everywhere. Homeless people on the corners asking for money. Stores are smelly and cold and dirty and old and creepy looking. This is not even close to a mall. Nearly half empty. Love the bahn mi shop inside (the best sandwiches ever!) Love the fresh steamed pork buns and other baked goods!),..love the varity and prices of products..worth the drive out there... Pho restaurants are nasty,..as in the decor (covered in thick thick dust), ceilings have stains, dark and just make me loose my appetite. How can this place be opened? Imagine the kitchen..inspectors need to shut this strip down and remodel and update!!! The store that sells kitchen ware has good selection and prices. Grocery store carries everything you need to cook Asian food. Lots of pot holes, homeless people (they've never bothered me), but I have been approached by sketchy people asking for money. Make sure your car is locked and no valuables in sight. Try to go with a companion if you're female. But in honesty, I have never had a really bad experience here. the bahn mi sandwich wasn't very good, but i tried the bubble tea and it was pretty good. very abandoned, and when I got there, there were a bunch of homeless people on the side. one tried to talk to me, and I ignored him. i didn't feel like I was in immediate danger, but the walking in was a little uncomfortable. when i exited, i made my way toward the compare foods then made a loop around to the sidewalk to avoid that side strip of homeless people. read more

Oh goodness, won't you just fix the parking lot, please!!! Driving through here today is like driving through a war zone trying to avoid all the pot holes. This is really not much of a mall. When I just moved to Boone, NC a few years ago, I would drive two hours to eat and get Asian items at Asian Corner and it was my "it" place. Since moving to Charlotte, I have discovered more and more Asian places to shop. Within this Asian Corner, you will find New Century Market (bigger and a little pricier on some items) and International Market (smaller and a lot busier) for groceries. New Century has a better selection with dry and frozen ingredients . They also have hanging BBQ ducks and Roasted Pork section along with a bakery. In addition to these two grocery stores, there is a restaurant equipment store (Tao Deng), a Dollar Store, a Vietnamese restaurant (Truck -- not bad), a Chinese Restaurant (forgot the name but it is inside the mall), and a Vietnamese sandwich shop (Ba Le, also inside the mall). There are a few other smaller shops inside the mall but it is very dead. Depending on what you are looking for, this can be a one stop shop. However, this is more Vietnamese and Chinese focus. If you are looking for Korean or Japanese products, Super G-Mart on Independence Blvd may be a better option. In fact, I prefer Super G-Mart because it is bigger and cleaner. read more

This is your typical asian grocery mall. This is an old shopping mall that was turned into 2 large, full-service asian grocery stores with all of the little knick-knack asian stores spread out between them. Yes, its dirty and run down and surrounded by one of the worst maintained parking lots I've ever seen......however, I felt safe enough going during the middle of the day. The grocers include fresh fish, produce and hot food serving areas. This is definitely the largest asian grocery shopping area in the Charlotte metro area so that is why I scored it so high.....at least we have one! The prices are good and the offering is vast. They appear to be well shopped so you don't have to worry about expiration dates as you sometimes do with import grocers. read more

I used to go to this location 40 years ago when I was in college at UNCC. It was a viable mall. Now it is only for the brave of heart but so totally worth it for a Banh mi at Le's. The parking lot is unbelievable and I think it caused my windshield to crack from a previous rock hit after driving through it. Be careful, don't wear your good jewelry but do try it. Le said his favorite was #6 so we tried that. The pork was wonderful. My daughter got chicken and loved it. I will try the combo next time which is what I tried in NYC. This was better than NY! This place can definitely be turn into so much more than what it is. There are several businesses here including salons, restaurants, grocery stores, and more but the location is not so great. The Asian grocery stores have terrible service and the people working there are not very polite at all. I do love the Vietnamese sandwich store that also carries bubble tea. That place is awesome and seems super busy on the weekends as people come and go to get their heated sandwiches for the families. The leann hair salon right across from it is great as well. I have been there several times. The lady who cuts my hair always does a great job. It is a bit pricey, but she's great! You can also find cheaper food ingredients at these stores located along this area than anywhere else in Charlotte. read more
