China Restaurant Hong Kong - Koblenz…read more A touch of China in Koblenz If you like Chinese's food, based on taste, price and atmosphere this is another well kept secret in Koblenz. Excellent food, great atmosphere, and great location! I visited this restaurant at the end of April 2015 on a Thursday evening, after making a reservation for two on that same Thursday afternoon. When I first called for a reservation, they hung up on me! However the second time I called, they were friendly and took my information. We arrived before 19:30, our reservation time and our table was waiting for us, as promised. In fact, the waiter recognized my voice from my telephone call. The Menu consists of a variety of Chinese dishes. The Menu is very easy to read and understand. Plus, salads and vegetarian meals are also available. Prices are average, fair, and the portions are good. Before our food was served the waiter brought a small hot plate to keep our plates hot. Both food dishes came, hot as required and within a timely manner. Empty plates were collected, when appropriate and at that time we were nicely asked if everything was OK. I had rice with chicken and vegetables and my partner had duck with fried chicken and white rice. I tasted both dishes and I can happily recommend both meals as delicious. The atmosphere is pleasant and the restaurant nicely decorated, in a Chinese ambient but is not over done. As one enters the establishment there is a water fountain with live gold fish. The tables are nicely decorated with a candle, table cloth and paper napkins (which I prefer) that match the table cloth. The restaurant is roomy and well organized concerning space. I noticed that the restaurant has two large closets with plenty of space to hang coats, jacket or hats and where one can see their coat, jacket or hat from almost anywhere in the restaurant. It would be a great place for a special occasion. One can either sit outside (now that we have good weather), inside in the front of the restaurant and look out through the window, or farther inside. The outside the eating area is on the sidewalk not partitioned from the sidewalk but covered. From Inside through the windows there is a nice view of the outside trees and plants. After we paid, we were given two plum wines as a parting drink. We were also friendly wished a pleasant day, as we left the restaurant. The Internet page is on Google and is very well organized and informative but it is only in German. On-line Menu can be found at http://www.speisekarte.de. Negatives are: 1) while parking is available on the street, one has to pay to park. So if you want to have the privilege to eat at this restaurant, you have to pay to park and pay to eat. 2) Internet Page is only in German. My partner said that without our coupon book she would have never stopped here to eat and now that she knows the restaurant exists, she wants to come back. She just loved the food. Overall this restaurant receives my best recommendation and we will both be back to enjoy another meal.

Thai food is one of my favorites and I try many places when traveling. This might be my least favorite ever. Chicken satay was dry, Massaman curry was the least flavorful I've ever had. Really delicious food could have made up for some of the horrible service but nope. The host/server was super unhelpful and not friendly in the least. Also note -- they only accept cash. There's a faded sign on the door that isn't very noticeable, so make sure you know that.

I think this is the best thai we've had so far in Germany, and we've tried a pretty good number of…read morethai places! We stopped in for a mid-week lunch, and while it wasn't packed, there were several other tables, and one was speaking thai (always a good sign). Service was friendly, and we had no trouble getting by with our pidgin German. The menu was in both German and English, except for the weekday lunch specials page, which was German-only. Since we never get to do so, we both went with something off the lunch special list; chicken curry rice for me, pad thai for my wife. Lunch specials come with a bowl of soup and a little dessert as well, in our case a chicken and rice soup to start, and a bowl of tapioca mango balls in sweet milk. The soup was fantastic; the broth had a nice flavor of chicken, ginger, garlic, and maybe mushroom, and while it was't a huge portion, it was plenty to start the meal and warm up after a chilly morning. The curry rice was also quite good; cooked well and not soggy or mushy. It had a touch of spice from the sliced green chilis in it, but wasn't spicy per se. The pad thai was what I would refer to as German-style; cooked well and with all the right ingredients, but with a touch of what seems to be tomato paste or ketchup in it that gives it a slight different flavor than what you get in the US. Certainly the best pad thai we've had here, but it does taste different than we're used to. The tapioca mango balls in sweet milk was a fantastic way to end the meal. I would describe it as a sort of out-of-season mango and sticky rice flavor; the mango tapioca balls were a little chewy like mango and sticky rice, and the sweet milk was just like the sauce that gives over the top. Like the soup, it wasn't an American-sized dessert, but it was plenty to leave you with a sweet taste at the end of the meal, and a damn good reason to come back if we are in Koblenz again!
