My partner and I stayed in the Seafield from the 7th of May until the 9th. We booked the hotel and…read morespa resort with the expectation of relaxation in mind, we also opted for a room with a balcony at an extra cost (€40 supplement). On arrival, our greeting from reception was lacking hospitality and friendliness. Without warning, our room was situated directly across from a playground. As it was during the warm weather, the playground was packed with children from early in the morning until late in the evening. The location of the room wasn't ideal when you're looking to relax, especially when you work in a primary school.
The hotel did not have air conditioning and the rooms were extremely warm. There was also a heating unit in our room, that was on a timer to come on during the night. On the first night, there was also loud music playing, coming from what we assumed was a party/wedding on the grounds. Opening the balcony door was not an option.
We requested an ice bucket from the bar to cool water and a bottle of prosecco, however we were told they only had pint glasses at the time. As the room did not have a fridge, we raised this issue at the reception desk. The same receptionist that checked us in, again being very unfriendly and hostile, stated that none of the rooms had fridges and there wasn't much that she could do. She ensured us that she would request an ice bucket from housekeeping, and someone would be up to our room. However, no one came up to our room and no other solution was offered.
Apart from the receptionist that we dealt with, all other staff were lovely, especially the spa receptionist and the girl who served us afternoon tea, Natalia.
Our biggest disappointment, however, was the uncleanliness and foulness of the room. In the bathroom, there was grime around the shower and limescale around the taps and shower head. There was scruff marks on the doors, walls and countertops. There was red stains on the carpet, and appalling stains on the back and front of the curtains. The curtains and net curtains had multiple rips and tears (photos attached). In the room, there was a comment card. As a couple, we filled it out very honestly and handed it in when checking out. It was hard to justify having paid €330 for a two night mid week stay. To date, there has been no contact made by staff to acknowledge that our stay was unacceptable and standards were below that of any hotel or hostel in Ireland.
