This is a truly local, small, family run business and the owners/shopkeepers have quite the tales to tell... The goods and crafts sold at the Arts Center are collected by the owners who have traveled to all these destinations around the world making connections with the artisans . The items here are more unique and vibrant than I see at a lot of boutique craft/jewelry shops and there is usually an interesting story the shopkeepers can tell about where the items come from/who made them. Just perusing the store feels like a trip around the world (or at least Epcot ) and is genuinely fun. Most locals know to come here for their Holiday gifts though I live in Boston and make a point to come every year! The store is typically open only seasonally as owners are traveling much of the rest of the year- so make it happen this Christmas season. Some good restaurants in nearby Willimantic, UConn on the other side, and the subtle beauty of the Quiet Corner of CT makes a stop here a lovely day trip. Check it out!

We drove from NY to CT on Saturday and we were hoping we spend about about 2-3 hours here. Sadly, the vineyard has closing hours at 4.30 pm. So we were able to spend about an hour. When we pulled up to the vineyard, I was very happy. It was calming and pretty. They have a gravel ( i think it's gravel) parking place. We pulled up and looked around and it was beautiful. I would imagine they hold ton of wedding and other events just because of the beauty of the place.I wish the weather was a bit warm, granted it was December but still I really wanted to enjoy my glass watching the sunset on their terrace /outdoor seating area. But I am getting ahead with the interior. We parked and walked in, the man behind the counter informed us about the closing hours. He was friendly and helpful. I must say the service is friendly and cheerful. That alone adds to your experience. When we walked we saw several tables and large party having good old time. I think we got a table because we came very close to closing time. I am not sure but you might be able to bring your own food if your holding a party. If this correct, that's amazing. Usually vineyards don't let you bring your own food. My husband and I both picked the white and rose options, for the most part. I especially liked the Rose, it was crisp and light. It was be prefect for a very hot summer afternoon. It was just delightful. My husband loved Vidal Blanc. For me Vidal Blanc was a bit more acidic than I prefer. We had about couple of glasses of the Rose and the Vidal Blanc and then we decided to buy a bottle of Rose.

One recommendation I would make here is they need to make the signage much better so it is easier to see from the street where it is. You basically have to turn in and drive down near a park about a mile where you will find parking. From a visitor standpoint I would strongly recommend bringing bug or mosquito repellent as there are a decent amount of them! Choo choo, all aboard!

It was pretty cool to see. If you have a love for trains you will appreciate this. It was a beautiful short ride. Weekday visit however, it was was Columbus Day. There wasn't anyone there for guidance besides our 2 staff members helping us with our rail bikes. They had Porto potties, picnic tables and it's just trains! Just to get to the museum it looks like there is a nice walking trail and of course, there's the rail trails! Make sure you are comfortable and wearing sneakers.

I asked some contextual questions relating to the local social and cultural history, and the docent not only didn't answer them, but was dismissive that I would be curious to know their answers. I've been to many, many museums, and never experienced anything close to this coldness before. Everything the docent provided was already on the informational placards in the rooms. I wish I just read off of those instead (and I so much prefer personal interaction, but in this case, the reading of the placards would have been infinitely more preferable).

Joan is a spell…read morebinding extremely knowledgeable lecturer with a vast repository of historical data about the life and times of Prudence Crandall. Prudence Crandall was a Quaker who opened the first school of color for girls in the state of CT in 1831. The school faced exordinary opposition and persecution from the local town government and citizenry of Canterbury. Town merchants refused to sell the school supplies; mobs of town folks broke windows, threw eggs, garbage, poisoned the well with manure and eventually tried to burn the school down. She was arrested and spent a night in jail for starting a school of color without first securing permission from the town council. Prudence was tried 2 times at the state level but was acquitted, it was the first civil rights trails in America. CT passed the Black Laws in 1834 denied black students an education without local town approval which in most cases would not be granted. She and her students eventually were driven out of town and the school closed. Her court case impacted the 13th,14th and 15th amendments to the Constitution. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall cited the Prudence Crandall case as precedent in the over turning of Brown vs The Board of Education which desegregated America's schools.

We love Mohegan for concerts!…read more We caught Foo Fighters October 4th! There is no bad seat in their concert venue. Dave even called out the seats behind them as the pick pocketers. I've never seen these seats filled but with a huge act like FF it makes sense! Crowds always feel safe with security tight and no bags allowed. They also pour most drinks into cups for safety as well. The light show during concerts definitely provides another fun piece of the atmosphere. Dave suggested they should do a residency here since they love the arena. 5 stars!

Although it is wonderful to have such a venue in our state that draws great acts like John Mayer…read moreand Foo Fighters, there are some downsides worth considering. I'll try to provide a balanced view, because some aspects of the property are worth a lot more than the three stars I gave it. I'll start with the pluses. The staff is uniformly helpful and gracious. "Good mornings" were freely offered and every server at the various restaurants ( we were there four days) was professional and welcoming. Big props to whoever is managing personnel. This is NOT a small achievement for such a large establishment. I also want to give high marks for cleanliness. There were always workers picking up papers etc who were paying a lot more attention than the average worker to anything out of place. We saw one elderly worker brushing out debris from the escalator. Again, kudos to the management for personnel. Our room was adequate and nicely appointed with a magnificent view of the property. Darkening drapes protected us from the rising sun. Parking valet system was efficient and speedy. Now for the downsides. While only two, they were considerable enough to make me rethink a return trip. They are also the reason for writing this lengthy review for fellow YELPERS. Despite the numerous restaurants, there was not one place to eat simple, healthy food for breakfast or lunch. There was only ONE place to eat breakfast and it had no healthy options (oatmeal,yogurt,fruit). On my first day (waiting for my husband for lunch) I actually had to leave the restaurant because the smell of fried food was impossible to endure. Believe it or not, it was our only choice for a table service restaurant for lunch. Dinner choices were far better but one could starve before then. For this size property, maps should have been available in rooms or, at least, on the website. When choosing a place to dine, one had to call and inquire its location. This is a meaningful flaw when, if staying there on business, time is restricted. A few interactive maps were available in common areas but navigation was impossible from the rooms. This is where most guests would likely do their planning. A simple QR code for guests would solve this problem. So, top marks for staffing but too many negatives to warrant more than three stars OR a return visit. I'd love to see John Mayer perform but not there.
