I came here for a tattoo during COVID and it was a great experience. My appointment was the middle of the day on a Wednesday and I was the only one in the shop getting work done. They did Covid screening as soon as I came in the door and I could see that they were vigilant in wiping things down and keeping things clean. My artist was Tory and he did a small script on my bicep. Great conversation the whole way through, I felt very safe, and the tattoo turned out better than I was expecting. Will definitely come here again when I want to get another one. Very friendly and easy to set up the appointment. All I have to say is thank god I don't really care, but if you're one of those people who wants a good tattoo and cares about inking yourself literally do not go here. I have Roman numerals that's IT (23) and it is totally lopsided, the Roman numerals droop down at the end and also they are like ALL different thicknesses and not delicate at all like I asked for they came out way bigger than the stencil I was shown. Literally if you go here you WILL regret it, I don't even CARE and sometimes I think and I'm like "wow that dude was honestly such a bad artist I would've been better off getting a tattoo anywhere else during an earthquake" What a bad tattoo! I was so disappointed by my two tattoo's (both simple non detailed, one line and one a word) that I did here. I had to go back for both because they were either badly healed or the lines were terrible. It made me even sadder that the work done to fix this made it a lot worse. Awesome. I went in for a nose piercing around 4:30. I waited for about an hour, but the receptionist warned me when I called earlier that day that evenings get pretty busy. Yup, I'm definitely a fan. I came to Ascesion Tattoo (they've moved from Graham Street) for my first ribcage tattoo, which was my second. (Which, by the way, OUCH. But, that goes without saying.) The shop was clean, easy to find and the folks in there were super nice. Meghan did my tattoo and I couldn't have asked for better service. She really listened to what I wanted and was really patient to make sure it came out right (we had to re size it a couple of times). I didn't feel rushed or pressured into anything I didn't need, or that I was overcharged. I was also grateful that nobody judged me for the faces I was making as she doing the shading :) Like any shop, I recommend giving them the courtesy of calling ahead to check on their availability. I had a double helix piercing done elsewhere and stopped by the shop to get some new jewelry put in. Alexia was helpful, quick, and the cost of the jewelry was shockingly cheap ($20 for two titanium hoops). Alexia has the sort of personality that some might call prickly, and I can see why that set some yelp reviewers off. But don't let that stop you from going - she is clearly very experienced, keeps up with her piercing education, and knows what she is doing. I've gotten four piercings by Alexia so far. My first two were vch and nipple in June. I was really nervous at first because piercing/tattoo places are, in general, a bit intimidating. However, what a pleasant surprise - Ascension is run by business women and the place is so cute! Very female friendly, like a yoga studio. I felt comfortable as soon as I walked in, and the staff were all very welcoming. I'm a medical student, so you can imagine how particular I am about sterile procedures. Alexia is very competent and professional. She's from a family of surgeons and medical doctors, so she has lot of knowledge in this field. Very intelligent woman, you could tell just by engaging in few conversations with her. As for the piercings, vch and nipple were about 8/10 pain, to be honest, but only lasted for about a half-a-second because Alexia is so swift with her needle. They are healing really well and look absolutely adorable, I love them! Yesterday, I drove all the way from my Charlotte rotation for a daith and navel piercing. I wouldn't go anywhere else! Compared to vch and nipple, the daith and navel were "skip in the park." However, I did take the offer to have my hand held by Jess (one of the receptionists) during the procedure. I am definitely not a touchy-feely person, but she's so cute and lovely that it did help with the pain! I typically wait a few months before writing a review in case of an adverse reaction during the healing process, but I am certain that my piercings are nicely done. Even if I experience some sort of complications, I know Alexia will take care of me! Also, Ascension have beautiful selection of quality jewelries. Definitely Recommend!!! I got my septum pierced by Alexia at Ascension Tattoo and she was extremely professional and friendly. She walked me through the entire process including explaining the different types of tools that she would use, the order of the procedure and what I could expect along the way. She also gave me her own personal tips for how to care for and manage the piercing which I found very helpful. I want to be able to flip it up into my nose while I'm at work and she took the time to show me how to do this and let me practice it on my own. In addition to that, the shop was really clean and she appeared very knowledgable about piercing care and best practices, which I appreciated. It was a really quick process and Alexia assured me that the pain would be substantially less than I was expecting - and she was right. I've had my ears pierced in multiple places, my tongue, my belly button and my left nostril and this was the least painful piercing that I've ever gotten. I would definitely recommend Alexia and Ascension Tattoo for piercings and feel confident that the great customer service played a great role in making it such painless experience. read more

Alexia is extremely rude and makes rude comments. I came in because I was having issues with a piercing she did for me. She made extremely rude comments the entire time and essentially called me stupid. Then when she finally gave me a chance to actually talk she decided to play nice. The very last time, I mean last time I will ever go there again to waste my time, she was extremely rude again. She will ignore you and then when she acknowledges you it's just to be rude. I can not believe somebody can be so unprofessional. I was sitting there beside my fiancé like "see what I mean?" after every rude comment she made. She's honestly fake. The first time I ever came she was very nice. Then she decides to show her true colors. Nice place. But this rude lady makes it not worth it at all. Worst customer service EVER. Take your money somewhere else. Update: Alexia not only gives bad customer service, she gives false information on piercings. Using a hoop to pierce someone's nostril the first time is unacceptable, you're always supposed to start off with a stud and even after you start having issues because this ridiculous woman can't do her job right she will be upright rude. Same as with a belly piercing you're not supposed to start off with jewelry that has gems on it. If I could rate 0 stars I would. But unfortunately that's not an option. Prices are ridiculously overpriced, this whole place is just trying to hustle people out of their money. Just because they know they can hustle college students. Why have outrageous prices when your customer service is trash? Go somewhere worth your money, try twisted 6 in durham instead. Alexia refuses to repierce me after my jewelry fell out since she did not tighten ball enough. Since I am out of town, I saw another piercer who said I should wait to get Re-Pierced. I then called Alexia and she now refuses to even look at it when I return to Chapel Hill, and says I should only work with piercer in LA. She even said that since I can't get repierced before I leave, I should fly back out to LA if I want to be re pierced. That's only about $500! The person who answered phone when I called was also pretty rude. I do not recommend place to anyone! Update: I have decided to try this place again for an ear piercing and am hoping for a better experience. I just hope Alexia is nicer and less condescending this time. read more

Alexia is amazing....and so is the woman at the front desk. The place is clean, calm, and professional. I came in to Ascension for my first piercing in a long time, and was very nervous. The piercing itself was well done: the person that did my piercing guided me through everything she did so I would feel comfortable. Aside from that, I felt like she wanted me out of there as soon as possible. At one point, I calmly said I felt faint, and was told to sit down. Later when I felt dizzy after my piercing, admittedly due to still being anxious, but also due to the heat, she told a coworker to watch me. When I said I was fine, that I just needed to lie down, she said that I clearly was not, and needed to get out of the room. When I asked how my earring worked, so that when one day I wanted to take it out, I knew how, she said I shouldn't touch it. When I clarified that I just wanted to know how it worked, since it was now attached to my ear, she avoided the question again and told me to just go to her to take it out. After a third time of me asking to please be told how my earring worked, she finally mumbled something, but I still have a very vague idea of how it works. It's a good piercing, but it was not worth 50 bucks. read more

WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I came in with my sister and parents to accompany my sister (a minor) in getting two cartilage piercings at $50 a pop. Not only did Alexia completely ignore my mother and I (she literally wouldn't even look at us when we spoke to her) but she made several rude and obnoxious comments to my sister and father. Even though my sister is under the age of 18, she did not allow either of my parents to enter the piercing room, nor ask any questions or make any comments about the procedure. Any time someone spoke to her she would respond very rudely. She was so outright mean and arrogant that I was completely shocked. We honestly felt like we were being pranked. When my sister asked Alexia questions about how to care for her piercing, she made sarcastic comments and essentially called her stupid. We were all completely in shock at how rude this woman was being to all of us, and for no particular reason. I will never, ever be going back to this shop or recommend it to anyone. Very unprofessional. I came in today for a simple cartilage piercing. There was no consult, and I had little to no option as to where the piercing was placed. As for the stud that went in there (and will stay there for several months), the woman performing the piercing told me that I could suggest a color, but she soon was frustrated (I asked for black or a simple metal, but was open to whatever), and told me that she should have just told me there were no options. When I walked into their studio, I zoned out looking at a tray, and she told me, "You put anything on that tray and I will rip your hair out." As I've worked in careers requiring sterile technique, I casually observed hers, which was extremely poor. She put on gloves when she entered the room, and proceeded to touch drawers and tables, and then the piercing equipment, and then my earring. In general, the piercer was rude, short, and unprofessional. The whole thing cost about $50. She topped it off with a comment about my debit card being worn. Not a place I'll go back to. read more
