Please be aware this Hospital is now managed by Ministry Health Care so I don't know if Ascension is still part of the name or if it was the previous management company. The emergency care I have received at this facility has been thorough. On my most recent visit I appreciated that the doctor took the time to discuss my diabetic condition even though it is not what I was in for and not in the scope of regular emergency care. A range of services are available but it would be a good idea to find out when the services are available. For example the the foot and ankle professionals are only there once a month. read more

I was dehydrated and had flu systems. I was there for about a hour and a half. I left very sick even worse then when I arrived. They managed too run my bill over 10 thousand dollars. I told them I had no clue insurance when I checked in and that I was poor and disabled. Now 2 years later they are taking me to court and I have nothing. read more

I went into the E.R. in May of 2008. Complaining of the worst throbbing headache in my into life. I told the staff on a scale between 1 and 600 my pain was 600. They refused to give me a small quantity of pain medications. I was told they do not give pain medications in the E.R. This is a bl antic lye. My grandma got pain medications in the E.R. I overheard a patient receiving morphine in the next room to me. Later when outside I was told he had a drinking problem. I have a drinking problem too and I was told by the staff that they could smell alcohol on my breath. I felt I was judged. Well I am assuming i was denied pain meds for that reason. Not a valid excuse. I am assuming the I was denied pain meds because I was delusional. Patients with mental illness should be treated fairly. I assuming I was denied pain meds because of the pschy meds that I was on. I was given a small quantity of Lorazepam to get me thru alcohol withdrawal in my last visit to the E.R. Patients coming in to the emergency room with chronic pain should not be judged or frowned about no matter what the circumstance. And need to be treated fairly. Also I ended up with several bruises on my arm from all the I.V.s they put in me. I went into inpatient behavioral health the same day. The staff in the E.R. gave me a shot in my head which did temporarily relieve my pain. Ascension Hospital in Eagle River sucks!!!!! Referring to the question I asked to the hospital. Another visit to the e.r. if my stomach would have been thoroughly evaluated I am assuming that I would been recommend an endoscopy. When I told my G.I. doctor about my bloating and distension that was the procedure was recommended to me. I feel my G.I doctor wasted his time. Next time I happen to walk into the emergency room late at night please tell the doctor to stop saying What are you doing here at 1:30 in the morning. That was hurtful. Your staff should have at least let me sober up and then run tests. I would say though awesome customer service from the doctors nurse who happened to make that hurtful comment. Had the doctor given me a thorough evaluation I would have been referred to a g.i. specialist. He said that he did not see any abnormalities in my stomach. Oh course he did not I had been drinking all night and there was not any food in me. They could have at least started an I.V. in me to sober me up. But it felt like I was kicked out of there. I have 26 days of sobriety now and I am thinking more clearly that is why I am writing this review. I need comments about this issue. Does it seem fair that a patient who is not sober should be told to sit in a chair. Sober or not everyone should be treated equality. Its not like we are been seen in the emergency room for free. I did not realize it at the time but I am a manic depressive alcoholic when I went to the emergency room that night. Should I be judged or treated any differently. My friends at A.A. are on my side. read more

After an allergic reaction to some hay at a nearby petting zoo I walked into the ER with a towel wrapped around my head and holding my eyeball (which was starting to look like a jellyfish). The receptionist was sooo sweet and helpful. I was seen quickly and the care and treatment was competent. Needless to say my eyeball returned to normal. read more

I went in after 3 days had passed of me getting attacked and beaten at my work by a customer, I got off work at 12:30 am, went home and still had head neck and scalp pain, the doctor on duty acted like I was a weirdo or some kind of criminal for coming to the RE at such a time, treated me like dogshit and did absolutely nothing to help me. I moved here from California and I got to tell you, Wisconsin healthcare sucks really bad! Stop treating your patients especially those that are victims off battery and assault like we are the criminals, unbelievable, I'm not paying my bill either, no one should have to pay to be victimized and treated like dogshit! read more

My 13-yo daughter was admitted there with pneumonia. We know several doctors who are affiliated/employed by the Ministry network, and they were quite concerned about the care she would receive when she was there, and one offered to move my daughter to another hospital. Everyone told us "it's a band-aid station". It was a good thing I stayed in the room with her- there were several times when she couldn't breathe and was crying, panicked, and gasping for breath. We would put the call light on- no response. I would go out to the nurses' station- there would be no one there. This happened several times. Do you know how awful it feels to watch your child unable to breathe, and there's no one to help you and nothing you can do? What would have happened if someone had not been able to be there for her to fight for her? There's a button in each room that a nurse is supposed to come in and press every two hours- I suppose it's so they can prove they interacted with you. The nurse would walk in, push the button, and walk out without saying anything or asking if we needed anything. The bill was outrageous, especially in light of the care we received. We worked out a payment arrangement to pay the balance not paid by insurance. We pay the agreed amount at the same time every month. In spite of this, the hospital continually harasses us by phone and asks us when the bill will be paid. You feel like a terrible person, even though you're doing what you're supposed to do. If you have a sick or ill loved one and you have a choice, go somewhere else. I believe that it could mean life or death for them. read more

I took my boyfriend in a while ago for a UTI and a bad flu, he was turning white in the middle of the night and I was afraid he was septic I drove him here. They did alright on the first night, they did x-rays to find out if there was blockages or anything wrong and then gave him some fluids. They said he would be fine with antibiotics and ibuprofen for the headaches and flu. Little did we know the nightmare we were getting into. They kept him that night and the next day he was sweaty but he wasn't white anymore. The doctor, who can't hear very well, said he could be taking the medicine in pill form and at home but wouldn't let him leave until he didn't have a fever anymore. We begged him to let us go home but he wouldn't let him. 3 days later my boyfriend finally had enough and forcefully went home. They charged us 17k, our insurance only covered 12k and we almost went broke. When we first checked in and checked our insurance they smiled, saying "you have good insurance!". I spent all day with him, the nurses never came in to refresh his empty water or check on him. The voice box on his bed was broken and they never did anything about it. The nurses would only come to give him food and some medicine, otherwise you had to track them down to get them to do anything for you. The doctor later suggested we should make a check up appointment where he mostly talked about himself and charged us a lot of money for that too. Stay away from this place. It's terrible, go anywhere else. read more

Be very careful about going to the emergency room at this hospital. They have a minimum charge of $700 for the ER and over $300 for the physician on call no matter what treatment you receive. I had a leg that had swelled up severely for no apparent reason and was concerned something very bad was happening. Doctor couldn't tell me why it was happening and offered no solutions. Between the check in nurse that took my vital signs and the doctor they spent about 10 minutes with me total. I have no idea about the quality of their care as they didn't provide any treatment yet still felt the need to charge me their "minimum" amount. For whatever reason my insurance only paid about half of the bill and even though I tried to appeal to them to see if they could help me since I had recently lost my job, the company that runs this (ironically called Ministry Health Care) couldn't do anything and forced me to pay the full amount. read more

I had the misfortune of visiting this hospital on Labor Day weekend. We went around three in the morning so we were able to get in and out in a reasonable time. I was not overly impressed with there staff on the exam they had given my daughter. They basically gave us amoxicillin and sent us on our way. After receiving there bill for the treatment I was amazed to find out that it had cost is nearly 1500 dollars for a half hour of there time. My daughter didn't even lay on a bed. She sat on my wife's lap the whole time. Come to find out if I would have told them I didn't have insurance I would have been eligible for a considerable discount. Unless you are on your death bed or severely hurt I would suggest going anywhere but there. They completely take advantage of people that aren't from Eagle River. Also tryed taking this up with there customer service and was basically laughed at. STAY AWAY!!! read more
