With the exception of holes 1 and 2 the course weaves its way through towering pines, making it pretty challenging. There's virtually no elevation change, yet the course is spread out enough to make every hole unique. This course is really popular now. Can get pretty crowded around peak hours, but everyone is pretty friendly.

It…read moreis set back a decent way from Chaney Thompson Rd. at the base of Green Mountain along Aldridge Creek, two miles from Ditto Landing. Sister and I took Mom for a quick ride through the park last Saturday and it looked really nice from the car! Amenities include: variety of playground equipment for all ages, dog park (I think 2 actually - 1 for large dogs and 1 for small), walking trail, multiple pavilions with picnic tables, disc golf, restrooms (with baby changing stations in all restrooms), archery range, and free little library. There didn't appear to be an abundance of shade but there are, I believe, two covered pavilions. Some complaints I read are the disc golf and dog park areas hold water and get super soggy after it rains and the swings are too high for most children to climb on to on their own. Also, some people noted the playground mulch needs to be replaced. A note of caution I saw is that there is no fence around the playground area so be sure to keep a close eye on the little kiddos. I'm looking forward to going back to this park in the spring!

This was a part of a nice enough park and all in all, it was a cool place to spend a bit of time before climbing in my car and dealing with a couple hour drive. Our communities need parks and greenways. We need places that we can escape to and get away from modern living and get a glimpse of nature. Overall, I would definitely recommend here.

Ohh did I mention that you are walking around an arboretum as you play frisbee golf? There is also a walking path with a workout area. A perfect (free) outing to have with your family. Just make sure to have frisbees because they do not sell them there. The sports store in town (10 minutes away) has frisbees for sale if you forgot them for your trip.

We managed to make it right before a huge storm opened up and enjoyed the overlook and a few hiking trails. The drive up is nice and scenic filled with windy roads. As we were leaving definitely be alert as the hill down is extremely windy and dangerous with a drop off. There is a fee you pay per person to enter which was not expected but it came to $5 per adult and the money goes back into the park.

I wouldn't have given it that high a rating but jt was a nice hike. When you first start the trail there is a fork for the loop, either you go down into the forest or go straight along the cliff. Most people we ran into seemingly walked down into the forest first, which meant they walked uphill most of the hike. We went straight along the cliff wall and ended up walking down hill for most of the 5 mile loop. It really was only the last half a mile that was uphill to get back to the start of the trail. I highly advise to go straight to make less work on yourself esp if you're elderly or with young families. I saw a few people turn around because the hike up was becoming too much. We had three children 5 and under who didn't feel tired until we were into the half mile uphill for reference on the different experiences you can have depending on the route you take.

Sharon Johnston Park is a park we frequented growing up. Back then it did not offer all that it…read moredoes these days; however, they have always hosted a Madison County Youth Fishing Rodeo every May. The lakeis stocked with catfish, bream, bass and crappie. Other annual events are a classic car show and a fall festival. I always knew the park honored Sharon Johnston but didn't know anything about Sharon. Turns out she was quite the "dare devil" and was a stunt pilot who tragically died when her biplane crashed during an air show at the South Weymouth Air Station at the young age of 31. She lost control of the single engine plane during a series of spins and crashed. Her family donated the land to the community in her name because it was a place she loved dearly, where her father built a lake, worked to conserve wildlife, and taught his children about the wonders of nature. Since the 70s the park has really grown! Now it includes an arena (think horse arena - not concert venue), a marked walking/running course, rental pavilions, a playground with pavilion, Olympic sized swimming pool, campground for tent and RV camping, frisbee golf, and a shooting range. It's a cool park with some neat rustic touches like an old wooden carriage and log cabin styled structures.

Brahan Spring Park has been here forever, ya'll. Since the 70s at least. It used to be home to the…read moreHuntsville Tennis Center, which the city moved to Airport Road - it was city owned and operated and public. They replaced the tennis courts with sand volleyball courts. The Park has the 2nd oldest disc golf course. It has at least 1 18-hole disc golf course in super-tall pine trees on the east side. You can fish here. The water features are on the south and north sides of Drake Avenue. People catch big mouth bass and catfish here. They have vending machines where you can buy food for the fish, ducks, and geese. There's a free splashpad here, and I think it's on astroturf that's open from Open Memorial Day - Labor Day, every day from 10:00AM to dusk. It closes very Tuesday at 5:30 PM and reopens on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM to allow for maintenance. There's not a lot of shade near the splashpad, so you may want to bring an umbrella or some type of covering to get some relief in the hot summer months. I can't think of many restaurant options in the immediate area, except for the McDonald's which is just east of the park, the food court at Parkway Place Mall, the City Cafe Diner east of the park on Drake, a walk-up Taqueria El Cazador at Drake, and Triana and another Mexican place closer to the park on Drake. In other words, pack a lunch to enjoy! Covered pavilions are available to rent for events such as parties and reunions. We grew up playing ball in the ball fields at Brahan Spring. It looks like they offer flag football, soccer, and softball and baseball now. Personally, I would limit my visits to daytime/morning hours if I were taking children to this park. Also, the restrooms aren't very convenient to the splash pads and are often locked.

It's a small clean park tucked in a subdivision just off 195. It's largely a disc golf course with a paved walking track spanning the perimeter and a decent amount of playground equipment near the parking lot. It's mostly flat with a few challenging and long holes. It was a nice little course. We enjoyed it. Great for beginner disc golf players. No bikes, skate boards etc allowed on the track. I personally think if you've got your kids outside let them ride but thems the rules. It also boasts no smoking signs which doesn't appear anyone follows based on the number of butts we saw, so more than likely your kid can ride a bike or scooter in my opinion. This was our nearest option for this activity. It's not a disc golf destination but if you're in the area it's great!
