My expectations for Mexican food in Germany were already low before going to Acapulco, but my…read moreexperience at Acapulco lowered them even more. Despite decent service (by German standards) and a lively ambiance, my el pollo quesadilla was terrible. It was sitting in a pool of unknown liquid (juices from meat, salsa, and tomatoes?) and lacking flavor. When I peeled back on part of the quesadilla's tortilla, I found an entire half of a tomato (pictured) with no apparent attempts to cut it. The salad accompanying the quesadilla was smothered in dressing - so much that I had to scrape some of it off the leaves. I understand that Germany's geographic disposition might not be conducive for high quality Mexican ingredients, but that has nothing to do with properly cutting a tomato or draining excess liquid from an entree. Very disappointing! The restaurant's only saving grace was their house brewed beer. It was cheap, flavorful, and - on a hot Leipzig evening - refreshing.

I am giving this place 3 stars because it is cheap so you really get what you pay for. But yet again, you get what you pay for and in Germany I get the feeling people really put high pressure on lowering prices, tough market so sadly quality ends up sacrificed.

My friend and I have been in Leipzig for about six months and decided today was the day we would…read moretry German Mexican cuisine. Perhaps our first mistake was arriving at 2:15pm when the buffet closed at 3. We can chalk that up to our American passports granting us hubris and the proclivity for being late. But, we wanted to try a variety of cuisine and thought this buffet would be our best bet. There was certainly a variety of dishes and also a variety of textures, ranging from disturbingly wet to unpalatably dry. As soon as I walked in, I began feeling sweaty. Currently, the sweat is the least of my concerns. Pros: Coffee was good Raspberry juice was good (dip a mini pancake in it for a nice treat) Nice housemade sour cream The chili con carne was tasty and did not seem like it had been sitting out too long The Germans sitting next to us thought we were funny as we reviewed the food Cons: The most soggy churros I have ever seen, and I dipped them in a yogurt that was supposed to taste like hibiscus, but I think the hibiscus decided it was needed elsewhere The ribs were SO dry and possibly contained a new kind of meat genetically engineered to not have flavor The fruit salad was impossibly wet Not a refried bean, scoop of guacamole, or pile of fresh cheese to be found Could not taste much chili, paprika, or other spices in the food My back now hurts Am I being overdramatic? Possibly. We are quite far from Mexico here in Leipzig. The table service was normal for Germany, they were efficient and got us what we needed. The decor was a mash of bright colors, old posters, and a lot of Día de los Muertos items. I liked the layout of the second floor with a beach-like atmosphere. Overall, qwhite an experience. Would add an extra half star if I could because I think they're trying - just needed some more finishing touches and rotation of dishes under the heat lamps.

Usually, especially Before Chipotle, local takes were fun & often strange - like the gouda & curried chicken burrito in Holland, 1996. But the Germans ... they don't mess around. 2018 I was astonished accidently finding "SF Burrito Company" in Köln. My brain blew a fuse. And the burritos were absolutely outstanding in every possible way. Went there dozens or times. Took my first born there, who was raised on Bay Area burritos. Wow! Then I learned SF taquerias were all over Deutschland. Maybe I should relocate ... Sadly, SF Burrito Co in Köln did not survive Covid. But cologne has other taquerias making magnificent burritos (to be reviewed later). I'd spotted Berlin's Dolores on previous trips but had not tried for a variety of reasons. Enter 2024 and in town with my youngest son (also raised on burritos). I was so excited to try Dolores. But truly saddened by the food experience. I grade burritos on a local curve. And by German standard, Dolores gets 3 stars max. It's basically blander than Chipotle. I'm so let down by the experience, I can't even describe it. I'll start either the Quesadilla as my burrito PTSD is just too strong to reflect on it. The chicken quesadilla was awful. Chicken and tortilla texture felt as if they were both prepared in a microwave. Rubbery chicken that was extremely dry inside. Zero crispness to the tortilla. Next to no cheese. And way too much cilantro on the chicken. And a side of mushy pico de gallo. I'm almost crying in shame reflecting on what a quesadilla from the Mission is compared to this. Ugh. The burrito. Got their house Pork special. Said it was Carnitas. For some reason, it took over 15 minutes to get to us - not a problem but bizarre as they had a burrito assembly line running. Anyway, it was very flabby in construction. No tension in the tortilla to hold it together. And the tortilla was mushy. Not properly steamed or crisped on the grill. The pork was very nice. A highly spiced pulled pork. Definitely not anything like carnitas. I do not believe it was fried or braised. A very low proportion of meat to rice. And the rice ... way too much Cilantro. Texture OK. But soapy cilantro from the rice practically overpowered the pork. Beans - refried which was a nice surprise. They were pretty OK . No cheese. A tiny amount of sour cream. Had a hot salsa in it. But was hardly noticeable and not even hot. Basically, a burrito that was a so-so copy of Qdoba or Chipotle. So sad. So very sad. The dining experience - the place was packed on a beautiful Saturday. A Line spilling out to the street. Nowhere to sit inside or outside. It was wonderful seeing so many couples and families enjoy an SF burrito experience ... I am thankful or this.
