    Red dragon roll

Right across from Jane station, so a convenient for TTC users. Came in with a group of 18 around 5 PM on a sunday. It was pretty empty at the time since they just opened for the evening, so they combined a number of tables together and re-arranged the walls as needed, which was pretty nice. The interior is decorated pretty nice. Menu comes with a lot of options, which is pretty normal. After 30 minutes of deliberation, four of us ended up ordering four "Large Fusion Rolls" that weren't available on the party trays, which are said to be "double size" and 11-12 pieces each. The rolls were quite large. A lot larger than I expected. One roll would probably be good enough for one person. Enjoyed the taste and texture of each roll. Would say they are better than getting some of the roll combos. Free tea. Free edamame Disposable chopsticks provided. Can't complain about large rolls.

It's been about about 14 years since I last came to ASA. My high school was around the corner from this restarting. It hasn't changed one bit. The food is pretty decent for a small hole in the wall across the Jane subway station. Staff is really nice here considering how busy it was on Valentine's. We got the Jane and Bloor roll, crazy boy roll, and the green dragon roll. It was huge!! The crazy boy roll was really interesting. It was deep fried with some crab and and avocado inside. Never had a deep fried roll before. It worked though. The green dragon was my favourite. Avocado was delicious, nice, creamy and super soft. Partner that with some quality salmon? Asa puts soft shell crab in the green dragon too. It's really yummy. How can you go wrong. The Jane and Bloor roll was really interesting, there's some salmon, crab meat, shrimp tempura, and avocado in there. Great combo. Definitely a must eat. Considering it was 3 items. We had left overs from the next day. Oh I almost forgot. We also ordered the sashimi combo, 2 pieces of salmon, 2 pieces of tuna, and 2 pieces of butter fish. All really good quality! Make sure you come with an empty stomach. You won't leave hungry, I guarantee you that. The only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because of the wait time for food. We arrived at 7:05 and didn't get food until about 7:45. Far too little staff for the busy valentines night. We were given edamame on the house as a result. I'd definitely come back on another occasion for a quick bite if I'm in the area.

Been coming here since high school and I love it! Service is always great any time I go. Prices for a la carte are fairly reasonable. Favourite roll is the You Go Girl roll. Its always made SO good! If you love cream cheese and salmon, you'll love the You Go Girl. Will keep coming back here! Just hoping that they go through renovations, the place has been the same for so long now, would be nice to see it updated.

This was bento box with salmon . Nothing special . Cost 13.99

I have this 4 star because nothing is terribly bad . But I wasn't like wow I am gonna go back there . It's right beside my house so I went there for dinner with my friend . I just didn't have the time or energy to go somewhere else . Ambiance is not bad . Food is not bad . You come h here because you have no choices . But not because you wanna plan this and you are gonna enjoy yourself . I think you get my point .

Take out: Jane and Bloor roll, salmon avocado cucumber and edamame

Love ASA Sushi! :) Yes it is extremely handy to my neighbourhood but it is actual one of the best sushi place I've ever been to! I bring all my friends here and everyone loves it! Great selection with unique fusion rolls (try Jane and Bloor roll!), fresh and tasty sushi, friendly staff (even the chef smiles and says hi), nice atmosphere, good prices and if you want take out they are quick. The only negative is that they are not open on Mondays!

Came here to fill up before a road trip. It's a medium price point with a few seating areas as each table is sectioned off by panels. While there I noticed that most people came here to order and take it out, possibly because the owner/workers kids were loudly playing in the front? They weren't screaming or anything like that they were school aged children but loud enough to be distracting during our meal. The meal itself was good. I ordered shrimp tempura, a crunch roll (crab, shrimp and vegetables). My boyfriend ordered a tuna roll and a salmon roll and California roll. The California roll had diced crab which was different but was full of flavour none the less. The shrimp tempura was good, not the best ive ever had but not the worst either. The crunch roll was the biggest sushi roll I've ever had! It was roughly the size of a hockey puck! Because of the size it was rolled loosely and therefore was a bit hard to eat, but otherwise tasted good. Food wise I would give this place a 4 but the kids causing ruckus while we were trying to eat brought the ambience down.

It's easy to miss this little Japanese restaurant off Bloor and Jane, and it certainly feels secluded. Even the inside, which is criss-crossed with screens, is snug without being cramped. The schlocky, non-Japanese muzak, however, gets a bit annoying after a while. They've got a really good lunch special for about $6 (the usual choices of sushi, miso soup, etc.), and the traditional carrot dressing on the salads strikes me as particularly tasty here.

    Lol. They have "Robster Salad".

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

What I really liked was that they had 3 options of warm water - Hot, Warm, and room temperature. Instinctively I knew this place cared about the clients digestive health. Though I'm sure if you asked for ice water, they would accommodate (my friend asked for no sauces in her maki roll). The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The establishment is very clean and bright and a great place to head to if you're in a rush.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends. It's not overly traditional, but it's easygoing, shareable, and comfortable.. the kind of place you'd come back to when you just want good food and a relaxed atmosphere.

The menu is set up to where you pick the entree and then what type of protein you want out of pork loin, chicken, fish, cheese, and sweet potato cheese. I settled on the sweet chili katsu. A piece of chicken arrived on a plate accompanied with rice and shredded cabbage. The chicken was breaded in a light panko like crumb and was half covered in the sweet chili sauce. I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes. This probably would have been five stars had it not been for the hair. I know this happens on the rare occasion but probably shouldn't if hair nets are worn. If you do try out this place, expect great katsuya.
