Odd. This apartment building complex, turned, furnished apartments that rent by the day, week or month has seen better days. The lift, and I call it a lift because its not a modern elevator is a bit frightening. If the previous user doesn't close the elevator properly then you'll never be able to call that elevator to your floor. We needed a place to stay due while our place was being restored due to a fire and grateful for the hosts friendliness and essentric manner this place is not for you if you want a restful nights sleep. I'm a heavy sleeper and the commuter Skytrain who's charging by ever few minutes from about 530am to past midnight allowed me a bare few hours sleep in the comfortable bed. Arundel Manor is basic and has all the amenities one needs for a short stay. Built around 1912, this is not a sound proof building. The wifi is spotty, I would suggest a unit closer to the router, We were on the top floor so it was difficult to remain connected for long period of time. You can open the kitchen window light shaft to allow wifi to trickle in your unit but we had our pets with us and adraid they may sneak out to their demise. Our hosts even contacted their internet provider who said they gave them faster Internet but its made no difference to us in speed or being dropped. Another Yelper referred this place as a B&B, it's most definately not a B&B today.The elevator is often used as a storage locker. So it was quite fit that on the last week (when we gave the owner/manager notice, she wanted 1 weeks notice after we continually advised the wifi didn't work and the gas leak in our unit made our unit non functional) that we found mouse droppings in our kitchen cutlery drawer. At the time I stayed there the rate was $120/night or $490/week or $1600/month PLUS 12% HST. In comparison, the Courtyard Marriott Downtown was $123/night including full hot breakfast. So if you don't mind the noise and nuances of a very old building, and an owner that is only intersted in getting you checked in and taking your money and not following up with issues, this is the place for you. This is a rather interesting place, that my traveling partners and I happened upon entirely through a double booking done by Priceline.com. We had booked a house that was a bit away, but after the charming British couple arrived to sort out how Priceline could have billed us without a room available, they offered us accommodation at this hotel. It was a bit of a surprise as one of them actually drove us from the rental house to the hotel. This hotel is not something that you'd expect. While it's clean, it's not a modern building, the furniture and many of the fixtures are vintage to 1912. Clawfoot bathtubs have been patched, single-paned windows have painted-over locking mechanisms and no screens, no air conditioning to let you close the windows against the sounds of the freight trains nearby or the Sky Train that is literally next to the building. Water pressure and temperature varies, the elevator is an ancient thing with manual operating doors that don't automatically open or close (therefore if the previous user doesn't take care to close them, the elevator stays at the last floor indefinitely, and the elevator can arrive at your floor but be summoned away before you get a chance to open the door). However, if you want to be in an incredibly convenient location in a true hotel suite (living/dining room, separate large bedroom with king-sized bed, full kitchen with a full complement of cookware, and a cabinet in the dining area with a full tea set - did I mention the owners were English?) this is an amazing find. It is literally a block from the Sky Train station, shopping (including grocery stores) and restaurants are all around, as well as the river front boardwalk to explore. read more

I don't know if you could find a more fabulous spot to sleep! I wanted to stay forever- perhaps even move to Canada, just so I could stay here! We were welcomed into this oasis built in 1912 with flowers, a bottle of wine and charming British owners. The furniture is all 20s art deco and had a super cool vintage bathroom! The Vintage lift, full kitchen, dining room, living room w/ pull out couch, tea and pretty tea cups, TV w/DVD and VHS player along with movies and books to choose from, made it tempting to just want to stay in all day. It is right next to the market and river with excellent nearby restaurants, pubs and the Old Spaghetti Factory if you'd like to explore. It is right next to sky train for easy transport to downtown Vancouver (they supply you with earplugs, but it didn't bother me- with a cozy bed like that, I slept like a saint!). They gave us an early check in time (noon! A blessing in this area!) & offer discounts if you stay more than one night (also have weekly and monthly rates if, like me, you are tempted to stay longer). It was less expensive than most hotels and motels in Canada and definitely in the "inexpensive" category if you stay more than one night (especially for more than one traveler). Short version: If you, like us, travel for the sake of experience rather than convenience, stay here. It was a lovely place, and I just wish we'd had another night there. Long version: Thanks to the discovery that our cell phones didn't work in Canada, my wife and I had a bit of a difficult time getting into this building at first. Make sure you call ahead, as per the booking instructions. Once we got in, though, we were treated to something special. This 1912 building features all of the architecture you would hope for given the era. Once the very pleasant owner arrived to show us to our room, we found a full suite at our disposal- furnished, with dishes and Merlot to go with it. I mean it when I say suite. This was very large, with multiple rooms, all cleaned to perfection. The atmosphere was very unique. Using the old-timey elevator was an experience worth the visit in itself. This is not a Motel 6. It does not have continental breakfast or a pool. The housekeeping staff won't be waiting for you to wake up, and you won't find a shuttle to take you downtown. The Skytrain constantly blows past, the sounds of New Westminster make their way in your room, and there is no air conditioner to help you keep the windows shut. Our door didn't even lock reliably. But how boring is it to waste your vacation relaxing? This gave us the city experience we wanted, straight out of a detective movie. And that train, while a bit loud, did not keep me up. The bed was extremely comfortable, and sound doesn't bother me much in the first place. Earplugs were provided, if necessary. That's a personal preference question. It was very convenient to have a station across the street. We had no problem finding food within walking distance when we didn't want to go further. Worth noting: parking on busy weekends (such as ours) can be a bit spotty. We were able to get a space pretty easily, but I'm glad we didn't have to take the car to come and go during our stay. There are pictures posted, and I will be posting more. All I can really say is this: if you want something unique, and aren't concerned about giving up some conveniences to do it, book your room now. We absolutely loved it and have never stayed in a place like it before. I am aware that this building is also leased out for longer term stays. Disgusting hotel. Has rodents in the rooms and if you complain the owner will accuse you of bringing the rodents in with you. Didn't bother staying the night and they wouldn't even give you half a refund back. Talk about cheap! Also apparently they said I was using the hotel for "other stuff" what's really disrespectful to say to a young woman. It's funny because they only said that when I complained to Expedia and asked for a refund because I didn't stay the night and did not meet my expectations. I guess when hotels are desperate to keep there guests money and traumatize them with poor experience, you don't really get surprised and expect anything less from them. Also not surprised an old fashioned place is disrespecting woman from left to right. It's funny because the owner said there's no rats in the hotel but one of the managers said there are rats and it's coming from a crack in the wall. Talk about being on the same page. Also there was no available water the whole day because of plumbing and honestly I don't think this hotel is safe because it has a really dank smell and it looks like there's abestos in this hotel. For health and safety I don't think anyone should stay here. It's not reasonable and the owner is flat out rude. My friend came by for 5 minutes and said she was scared of sitting on the couch because she pointed out how this building is super old and if I saw a rat than there are probably bed bugs. Just because it's a vintage hotel doesn't mean it's safe to stay here especially if it looks like there is abestos in the hotel and rodents. One more thing the owner was complaining about how she has to pay the plumber $400 an hour so I guess she was really desperate to keep my money because she seemed upset paying the plumber for her old hotel that's falling apart. Keep the money it's not like a $113 is going to fix a hotel falling apart. read more

Not a pleasant experience. Phone did not work when some man was sitting on the edge of the roof top at 3 AM indicating he was about to jump. Couldn't wait to leave this run down rat trap! I was visiting my sister in New Westminster and stayed here for 3 nights; a unique, interesting place to stay.....I loved it! It has character and charm and is much more fun than staying in a Motel-6 type of place. It isn't a room but a suite of rooms: bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen, huge bedroom, a TV/sitting area with a pull-out couch, and dining area. Myrna, the lady who owns and runs the place (along with her hubby), has seen to it that anything you need (including a welcome-bottle of wine) is in your room - dishes, pots & pans, cooking utensils, bedding, lots of towels, big TV and free WiFi that didn't give me any problems. And the location.....fantastic! Very close to the skytrain (which you hear in your bedroom if you have the windows open but it didn't bother me at all) and lots of great places to walk-around and explore (and eat!). The next time I am back in the area, I will definitely stay here again and if you - like me - enjoy unique travel experiences, I highly recommend you call Myrna to make a reservation. read more

Overview: (I would give this 2 1/2 stars out of five, but I have to pick 2 or 3 stars). Located in New Westminster, which has a downtown feel to it (even though it is far outside Vancouver's downtown). The area is a bit gritty, but lots of convenient things close by - a Safeway, the Skytrain, lots of restaurant options and a Tim Hortons. Very close to the Frazier River, but not on it. The hotel was built around 1913 and looks like it. If the owner has done any renovations, it doesn't look like anything has been done since the 1960s. The price was reasonable and I knew what I was getting into, but there were two things that one should be aware of. A Skytrain stop is very close (a block and a half and visible out some of the windows and the line goes by ever unit's windows). That is both a positive and a negative. Easy to access, but very noisy - especially as the train arrives and departs (coming or going every 8 minutes and the train runs till 1 AM). The windows are terrible (from the sixties or earlier). If the owner was to upgrade one thing, they should replace the windows with better quality and more soundproofing, which would make a huge improvement. As it is, the windows are rickety and not sound proof at all. Ear plugs are supplied (not kidding). The other item is that there is no air conditioning (not even a window unit). We were there in late August and we just blew the rooms out with the fans at the end of the day. But if there were a string of hot days in July it might get a bit warm in the rooms. Details: We stayed on the fourth floor - there were four apartments on our floor (we were in 13, and 14 was across the hall with 15 and 16 down the hall). Each is a suite - four rooms: bathroom, kitchen, master bedroom, living room (with breakfast table). Units 15 and 16 are facing the train line and I would not recommend them. Room 14 is the farthest away from the train noise. There is an old style elevator (with manually closing two door system). We thought it was fine, but we also took the stairs most of the time. The living room is quite spacious with a ceiling fan and the bedroom has a king size bed (that was very nice to sleep on) but no ceiling fan (moveable floor fans are provided). The living room has a fold out couch. The fold out couch looked pretty old and when I opened it, the bed had the typical old style bar across the middle, and a very thin mattress. I didn't try sleeping on it. The kitchen is small and dated, but quite workable and there were plenty of dishes and pots and pans. The bathroom has a freestanding bathtub and the hot water worked fine. The living room tv is a modern flat panel and gets local channels on cable. Internet was a bit sporadic. Never totally failed (while we were there), but disappeared a couple of times and then came back after a minute or two. The signal strength varied between five bars and two bars. It was pretty slow loading pages at times, but serviceable. My friend and I charitably described the feel as vintage. But we liked the location and I went out and bought some really good earplugs and over all we were ok with our stay. The owner just needs to upgrade the windows. read more

Built around 1912, the owners and staff of Arundel Mansion have kept all the warmth and character of early 20th century charm. This quaint older style building is located in New Westminster, where the classical old meets the new. Whether you like to walk along the Warf beside the waters of the Fraser and watch for passing seal or a jumping sturgeon, maybe go up river on a day's excursion via Paddlewheeler river boat tours, perhaps catch the sky train, or go to a seafood restaurant, grocery shopping, take a movie and much more, all are comfortably located within walking distance of Arundel Mansion. The owners make sure you feel welcomed and provided all that you need to make a comfortable stay. The price was reasonable for my one month visit. MICE. That is one word i can use to sum up this place. As soon as I arrived, I was coughing and sneezing ALOT in the suite, due the unclean nature of the place. The beds were too dusty to even fathom sleeping in, so I slept on the couch. They have mice traps and electronic rodent repellents, but they don't seem to do much good as I was frequently spotting mice through out my 3 night stay. The skytrain was so close that it was almost impossible to sleep before skytrain service ended. I would not recommend this place this anyone, for any reason. You get what you pay for, and in this case you don't get much. Spend a few extra dollars somewhere else, and you might actually enjoy your trip to Vancouver. read more

Another visit to my favorite hotel in the Vancouver area! This magnificent old building has such character and charm. No, it's not new. It is a trip back in time. Everything is old. But it is lovingly maintained and it all works. Comfortable beds, clean linens, clean suites, great views, convenient location. The hotel is a destination unto itself. Each suite is a little bit different - #16 is my favorite. I'll often find myself just sitting in the comfortable living room and looking out at the mountains or the river. Ask the owners for a tour behind the scenes. This really is a glorious old building, one of the first "high-rises" in British Columbia and it is a great place to stay. read more
