This is a takeaway/delivery ONLY.
A bit of background. I've been looking for a replacement curry house to replace the one I usually use as they said they are closing.
Recommended by a taxi driver who said that this was authentic Pakistani food.
When placing the order the delivery time was given as one hour. I thought that this was reasonable for cooking fresh and a the place being about a 5 minute drive away. Actual time took less than 30 minutes, which presupposes not cooking from fresh.
Ordered:
2 x Chicken Balti £8.40
1 x Boiled Rice £2.40
1 x Plain Naan £1.80
1 x Masala Fish £7.20
1 x Mix Grill 1 £10.20
Promotion Discount £3.84
Surcharge £0.50
Delivery Charge £1.50
Total £36.56
The prices were different from the leaflet that I had picked up. Perfectly understandable with the change in food prices generally.
Chicken Balti - Sauce was nice, with a little kick. The chicken was a mixture of breast meat and thigh meet (wife doesn't like thigh meat). Although there were lots of little pieces and they weren't hard, just didn't feel right.
Masala Fish - My son ordered this but found it was too much after the Mixed Grill 1. I finished the fish, and it was great. Loved the flavour.
Mixed Grill 1 - Consisted of 1 x Sheesh Kebab, 2 x Lamb Chop, 3 x Tandoori Wings, Chicken Tikka, half portion of chips. Son enjoyed, and didn't get a look in.
From a curry selection perspective, it is limited, but good to see that they haven't fallen for the Classics. However, they do say if you want a specific type of curry you can request.
The curries are either "Desi Style Balti" or "Desi Karahi", the latter comes with 6 Rotis and a at least 1.5 hour's wait. On the menu it says:
Lamb Karahi (1kg) - £32.40
Full Chicken Karahi - £26.40
Fish Karahi (Cod) - £11.40
Sheesh Kebab Karahi - £9.60
I'm still not sure if I've found the right place. Perhaps I should try the Full Chicken Karahi or set a test for a lamb based curry, rather than chicken. Also, a vegetable on would be a good test.
However, if they don't cook from fresh and use frozen meat in their process, my doubts remain.
As I understand things, after a Google search, the ingredient (for a desi) are stewed. I didn't see a chicken tikka option for any of the curries, which a Bangladeshi friend says it indicates that the meat is boiled first.
Give it a try and see what you think. read more
