Jivan's is the bomb…read more I spent much of my college years partying in this horrible town and I never once thought to visit this place. Then one of my good friends in my later years promised me this would be a great place for a curry. So initial thoughts is it definitely looks outdated outside and in but surprisingly it is not all that uncomfortable with the old wooden decor. I will admit in around 20 visits here I have only ever order the one dish and that is the minced lamb curry with naan, it is that good! It is a family run restaurant and they are very awesome folk who work here. I have only ever been during the week so not sure what the weekend rush is like.

Great tasting curry and a good portion served in a balti dish. Their chicken tikka sizzler starter dish is great too (£8.00 but can serve 3/4). Take-away also available. Look on the W/ton council website for the environmental health scores on the doors and Jivans scores one of the highest (4 stars) in the town for excellent food standards and kitchen hygiene. Better score than places that charge twice as much! Its only a small place with formica tables, so its not the sort of place for a special meal, there are far more swankier places to visit - but for a quick curry in a hurry after a real ale session, or a curry before the theatre this place can't be beaten. Great food, good portions, great prices - my favourite place.

Probably the best meal I've had during my visit to the U.K, so far... Indian food is always good…read morebut this place was phenomenal. They've got a great Mon-Thurs dinner special where you can get poppadams & chutneys, a starter, a main, rice or naan, and a cup of tea or coffee for £9.95. I had a vegetable samosa as my starter and a chicken tikka jalfrezi w/ boiled rice for my main. The jalfrezi was DELICIOUS. Really hot and filled with fresh green chilis - this paired with the rice was absolutely the bee's knees! I used some of my friend's naan to sop up the leftover curry after all the chicken and veg were done. I highly recommend the jalfrezi! Service was prompt and polite. The place definitely lacks ambiance but it more than makes up for it with the amazing food. Alcohol is BYOB and there is NO corkage! The Standard is definitely the standard to which curry should be. Definitely the best and most memorable meal I've had in Birmingham.

In all honesty, the internal decor of the Standard is a little, well, bog-standard, especially given how flash some of the more modern, bechromed tandoori restaurants can be. That doesn't affect the food however, which is excellent, as is the service. The prices aren't bad either, which makes it three goods to one average. If you want to make your meal the focal point of your evening (for instance, if you're on a first date), then I'd say there are better Indian's in the area. If however, you're a bit drunk (or a bit skint) and want a really nice, well-priced balti. Then this is the place for you.

I've submitted a change of name as it should be Cinnamon Court…read more I'm not goint to describe the inside as this has been done well by another reviewer. I almost scored it a 3, but would prefer to score it 3.5, but went for the generous. The online menus don't tie up with the ones at the restaurant. Although not on the menu, I asked for a Mixed Kebab with some fried onions, which they charged me £3.75, which was very reasonable. Most of the meat was fine, not as spicy as I would like, but it is all down to taste. The fried onions arrived separately, and I think they forgot.... Slight browning, to give a hint they had been fried, but they were still undercooked, and I felt that they had been placed in a microwave. Some ot the meat was burnt. The plate I ate my main off was warm, but the food was served in cold dishes. I had a dabal murgh...I think.... about £7.65.... I checked for it on the on-line menu, but couldn't find it. It was very tasty. We ordered three dishes, and mine was judge to be the best...The others had lamb dishes. I tried them and I thought they were good too. Staff were very friendly. I was with someone who has been there many times before, so the owner stopped and chatted. He must be doing very well, as he has a Bentley Convertible outside. I'd still go back but I think I'd be a bit more assertive about the food and the plates. As I say, in comparison to other places... I reckon it is a 3.5. Certainly seemed to attract regulars, by the way they were greeted. Plenty of parking spaces.

I am really annoyed at my dad right now. Why? Because he asked me two days ago if I wanted to go to…read moreThe Cave tonight as I LOVE going to new restaurants. It's only after eating this wonderful meal, he told me that he has been coming here for months with his old friends. It's like he didn't want to tell me...like..I don't know...he didn't want me to tell the whole internet! On entering you, you are greeted with a plethora of sweets! No messing about! Much like Jyotis in Hall Green, it's a good move to have a sweet shop in a restaurant. The amount of times I have been stuffed after a meal to have dessert, that you can pick up some cheeky jalebis or barfi to have when you get home. It's a cosy and intimate affair but certainly not cramped. The music was very calming and I felt totally relaxed as soon as I stepped into the Cave. It sounds cliche but it's true! The place was so clean and modern and looked like it just opened today, despite it being around for a year or two. While in the Cave, I bumped into and old friend and his daughter who said they were regulars. He is a harsher food critic than me! They had a Pizza which they said was perfect. The menu is amazing! They have all the usual burgers and pizzas but it's everything else which makes the Cave more appealing to your average Asian restaurant goer. The curries are really authentic and not too wild for any newcomer. No Chicken Tikka Masala here, but more Achari Chicken and Lahori Haleem. You don't like curry? No problem! There are plenty of starters for you to try individually or as part if the "Veg mix" or "The Cave mix" You are a Vegetarian or Vegan? No problem! There are 7 veggie curries, endless starters and naans and rotis for you to sample! Me and my dad went for the starters option. Grilled fish, Baby chicken, Masala rice and Tandoori Roti. The part of this selection that blew me away was the Grilled fish. It's an insult to make the comparison, but the only similar method of fish I have had is masala fish, which can be found in most kebab shops around England. But those are laden with salt, oil and food coloring. The Cave's grilled fish was delicate, soft with a slight spice which made it a joy to eat with rice. The Chicken wasn't grilled but done as a rotisserie done with coating of your choice. I went for mild, as you know my dislike for things chilli. It was better tasting and a snip in price than other chain that does grilled Chicken.. All members of staff were accommodating and friendly which was a lovely touch. I really can't wait to come back and try the curries in particular because from the descriptions, sound unpretentious and genuine. My dad has tried some and can vouch for them being great! It is definitely a place where I would bring friend to eat in a less formal yet still lovely surroundings. But would feel fine about coming to on my own. And not a trace of Pork, Beef or alcohol in sight... p.s I forgot to say there was plenty of salad on every plate!

You can tell the guy what 'heat' you like ... and worth considering the heat settings seem tailored for Indian and Pakistani tastes. I go mild! Food tastes fresh and quality is good. Prices are fair. The pizza tho' I wasn't keen on. Imagine a mildly curried pizza sauce on sub-average base and you've pretty much got it. Something for the kids maybe! The tea at £1 a cup is awesome value and the Chai/Desi tea is great too but is rather less bargain territory. They sell a decent enough selection of 'Indian Sweets' but none of the ones I like unfortunately! It's a spacious place with effectively two room, plus the kitchen. Service is good tho can be a little slow at times even when it's empty. When I'm working over that way I'll usually pop in for a working lunch a couple of times during the week. It's definitely the best food place around the Cape Hill area ... at least that I've found so far.
