We did write a review for this restaurant a couple of years ago, but after two recent poor visits we felt the need to update our review. On both occasions the service was truly appalling. We can forgive one off night, so went back again a couple of weeks ago to have the worst experience yet. We were left waiting and waiting until we could get someones attention to order a drink, then order our food. We then had another very long wait for our two main courses, and saw many other diners come in after us and order and get their food whilst we still sat twiddling out thumbs. When the food eventually arrived, my friend asked for another knife as she had used her one knife with her starter, once again we waited and waited and then had to ask again, in the meantime the food was fast going cold. As for the food I could only describe it as average. Rather fed up we asked for our bill and yes, once again we waited ... nothing. We saw two waiters stood chatting and laughing at the bar and obviously not attempting to sort our bill. In the end we went up and paid at the bar rather than wait any longer. We have noticed that when the Manager/owner is not around the rest of the staff seem to go on a go slow. This restaurant recently changed its name to Saffron Gold and I can honestly say the only thing 'gold' about the restaurant now are the prices (which have been hiked up dramatically). This is a very grand looking curry house and first impressions are great, but what on earth has happened to the service? Just look elsewhere rather than pay over the odds for average indian food. read more
