Wanted to treat myself and spend a little more on a haircut than I usually do at the barber. Booked with William as he had a lot of mentions in reviews. My first time in here and William was incredibly rude to me as a first time customer. I brought in a photo and told him some additional details I wanted on my cut. I was hoping he'd work with me to style a new cut since this was a nicer shop. It had been a while since my last cut and he was really rushed and abrasive and treated me like I didn't know what I was talking about the entire time. He was very pushy with moving my head, would snap at to keep my head straight or tilted when I hadn't even moved it or he had moved it during the cut. Overall it was a rushed 25 minute haircut. No amenities, no foam, alcohol, hot towel at the end. My head literally hurts after this haircut from how rough he was with the clippers and scissors. I've been going to barbers around here for almost ten years and haven't had this bad of an experience and most of them are charging half of what these guys are charging. For $50, this was an awful experience compared to cheaper options in the neighborhood and I wish I could get my money back. Wouldn't recommend this place. read more

COMPLETELY DISRESPECTFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND A BUTCHER JOB. We made sure to request Danny for my 13 year old son's haircut today as he had good reviews, and both booked online and confirmed by phone. When we arrived early to our appointment, he passed my son off to an inexperienced female barber saying he double booked-although we were there early and the other party wasn't there at all. Within 5 minutes of her working on him Danny proceeded to work on his own hair instead of my son's. No other party came. The inexperienced barber didn't listen to my son and did a careless job. What was supposed to be a fade was an almost bald shave with one side chopped higher than the other!! My son was getting his hair cut for his graduation photos tomorrow. read more

I don't have pleasure in writing this but I want to be honest and warn others. First met me say, the first haircut I got from there was amazing - the barber took his time, was great in conversation, and cleaned me up very nice. My friend came along too. So I decided to come back again and I had a different barber. He very clearly was rushing the cut the whole time, he cut my ear with the clippers that he admitted "weren't that sharp" so he was rough too. I felt the blood and he continued to cut around the cut and my mask. Essentially missed my neck but at that point I needed to get out. I went to the bathroom to clean the blood off and had to ask for a disinfectant to put on my ear bc it was bleeding. So yes I had to wear a mask bc of covid but the trim job around the ear was sloppy, then he cut it, and had to ask it to be disinfected - doubt he cleans any of his tools - gross. Not even a simple sorry when it happened. For the price, this was a horrible experience, sloppy, and unsanitary - couldn't wait to get out. $50 wasted. read more

I've spent years trying to find a barbershop I look forward returning to when I need a cut. My hair is tricky, I'm bad at explaining how to cut it, and I grew up going to barbershops not salons so I just prefer them. I wandered so long looking for a home. I've been here five straight times and each haircut is as good or better than the last. The barbers are artists as much as they are artisans. It's also a friendly and cool environment. My last cut was with Ali, and he's a hell of a good barber. He knows the science and the craft and is fun to chat with. Overall, a great place. Highly recommend. read more

The most unsatisfactory haircut I have had in my life. I have recently moved back to NYC and haven't received a haircut in months. I found this posh place thinking it was good but I was fooled by the great looks of the place. I came and asked for some off-the-top front and a fade on the sides. This place is meh, I got a skin fade today and I get skin fades for the past 12 years so I know when someone knows what their doing. I came home with bunch of spots on my head uneven and stuff, it's just a skin fade. I've been here twice just to give the chance but both times disappointed. Artisan barber is a very dope place in UES. Always super good vibes with great music on. I care a lot about my beard and I usually don't like people touching it, but that's not the case there. They are really dedicated to what they do, especially Danny. He will know how to give your beard a nice cut. All the staff is very professional. I am happy to have them in my neighborhood. read more

Danny was running late to my appointment. He Spent about 10 minutes with me and didn't style my hair. The cut felt a bit rushed. I asked for the razor blade and he said he didn't have any. If you're going to charge $50 for a cut, please make sure you have razor blades in stock and offer to style hair at the end. I get you have regulars waiting after me but we're all paying customers. I still left a $10 tip. The owner was at the next seat over. It's your business. Hold your barbers accountable for good service. You end up loosing at the end. This is the UES and expectations are much higher. It's easy to get away with that in LES. Unfortunately my regular shop was closed, so thank you for staying open before the the city shutdown. read more

Moises is the number one for haircuts. I have really thin hair so it's really hard to cut, I've gone to several different salons over the years and paid top dollar and have always left not 100% happy. I also have my hair license and am always correcting the people who cut my hair. No matter what he does my hair comes out looking amazing and he knows just what to do to make it look fuller and thicker whether it being a fade or cutting it differently in certain spots. Don't get me wrong... everyone hear was very nice. But my experience here was honestly next to terrible. To start, I specifically made and appointment for a trim. I told my barber I just wanted my sides trimmed and I wanted to keep the length on the top of my head. He said he would just trim and thin it up for me. The cut looked fine, that wasn't the issue. The problem was that he was too distracted by a weed dealer openly dealing all of them pot to actually focus on my cut. Then he charged me for a full haircut when I specifically asked for a trim. As I waited about 5 minutes for my card to process on the tablet he was at another table finishing up buying his weed before finishing my payment. We all smoke, but don't fucking buy from your dealer when you have PAYING customers and neglect to finish their experience. Are you guys that naive on business ethics? read more

I came in last week for a cut by Ali and I left with one of the best haircuts I've gotten, and I'm not even exaggerating. What I love about this place is that it's so different from the other barbers in the area, the focus here being the individual talents of the barbers and the unique atmosphere the shop brings. Ali listened closely to what I wanted, made sure I felt comfortable with the length of the cut, and even went back and did it again after I requested he go shorter! I came here for the second time last Thursday towards the end of the day. My first experience in January was quite awful and I didn't plan on going back, but I decided to give it a second chance. I'm certainly glad I did. William did an excellent job with my haircut and actually explained that the barber who I had a poor experience with in January was no longer at the barber shop.
