Biggest scam. This is not as described. It is 5 mini games/ interactive screens the size of a tv then one big room that just plays 90s quality videos. We were bored and left in 20 minutes. Came here for the Blooming Wonders installation. The space is very small but well thought out. They have a bar when you enter the room where the art exhibit is, which is a nice touch. The projection is only about 20 minutes according to the guide and then it repeats. I have been to some amazing projection shows and this one didn't wow me as much as those however, I still found it impressive. The smaller exhibits at the end were a nice touch as well. I am not able to review the museum because it was closed on the day when we purchased tickets through it's website through Fever. We arrived to a locked door with tickets in hand. I have since spent considerable time trying to get a refund through the museum and Fever and they have not refunded me for expensive tickets sold to me on a day the museum was closed. My friends and I went here after work and really enjoyed the experience, however, we found it wasn't as exciting or interactive as we would have liked for the money. If I remember correctly, tickets were north of $60 a person. When we entered we were able to watch the main audio visual show which was displayed on a large screen. You could sit on the ground or walk around the room. In other rooms there were some interactive bits and areas you could read more about the art and artist(s), but really can make your way through everything in under an hour. For the price and hype, it would be nice to add more interactive elements or spaces for more art. read more

My sister invited me to attend a free event that was at the ARTECHOUSE. This was to see their holiday installment of "Tingle Bells." After a brief introduction after check in you are led into the area of the exhibit. The top floor had several interactive digital installments where you moved your hand to knock things over or move around. There was also a bar upstairs too. Their drink menu is coordinated to the current exhibition. The drink prices are definitely on the higher side so we skipped on it. The main artsy attraction was just in the lower level downstairs. Where the walls and floors has a 20 minute video playing on repeat of the theme. The Tingle Bells had three different reels which showed donuts/sweets being made, a Tetris like video game and a Christmas homey scenery with some cute sleeping dogs. Most attendees sat on the floor or seats to watch the show. The venue also provided pillow poofs you can use to sit a little more comfortably on the floor. Overall it was just okay for us. The actual ticket price was a bit high in my opinion for what you get, but maybe I'm not artsy enough to completely justify the price per ticket people do pay to go here. Not sure if I would consider returning in the future. Just not my thing, but may be nice for others. read more

We came on a Tuesday morning at 11am, and bought tickets on the spot. A reservation was not needed, and there weren't many people in attendance that day/time. After watching a 3 minutes video that i felt was really unnecessary, we entered the space. To our left there was a bar, which was closed at the time but had a video installation where images of the people sitting at the bar would be continuously created and recreated, and projected on the screen behind the bar. On the same floor are Pantone-sponsored interactive installations that allow you to play with colors, shapes, and sounds that appear on a vertical screen in front of you. The main space is a single, large, former boiler room, where visual art is projected on all surfaces, creating a very immersive sensory experience with images, colors, and sounds. There were 5 different installations on display, each one 20 minutes long. As a neuroscientist, I particularly enjoyed the installation "Life of a neuron"[1]. I found it particularly relaxing: you just sit or lay on the floor, and let your senses be engulfed by the constantly changing and moving images and sounds around you. My kid, who is 6, enjoyed the interactive installations the most: the Pantone screens and the bar. The main one was a bit too long for his still-short attention span, although he was very curious about the story of the neuron. This is great if you want to isolate yourself from reality for 100 minutes, and just relax. There's also a bar that offers alcoholic drinks on top of the viewing room. *please make sure you do not bring any outside food and drinks, water bottles are allowed.* The exhibition was undeniably enjoyable and intriguing. Occasionally, it felt as though I was on a roller coaster due to the images appearing to move me along. My buddies also had a great time. However, still really enjoyed the experience. We didn't see any repeat films for the hour we were at the exhibit. Most films were about 2-3 min. Some were very calming or charming, while others were a bit more distressing- kind of wish they would get rid of those. Upstairs there are some interactive exhibits that didn't work particularly well, but I liked the installation behind the bar which would develop a flower based on personal characteristics. Attended the ASMR Tingle Bells exhibit. Loved the keyboard one the most. Honestly it's quite fun as a chill adventure for families and young kids. A little trippy and although it's a pretty straightforward concept of digital projections that are responsive, I think the overall experience is solid. "Fun little spot of multi-sensory" This is an interesting spot that rotates different themed exhibits. I went for a Holiday Themed event which was cool but intense. Artechouse is a classic example of an instagram trap. All the "immersive" videos and colorful projections are marketed to hell and when you actually get there, you're in a small warehouse with a projector and a gimicky bar for shmucks. When my friend and I went, there was a "World of AI Imagination" exhibit which meant that tickets were $35 dollars just for general admission. This is steep for any type of museum admission and my friend and I decided to take the chance. When our reservation time came, a worker showed us an introduction video about Artechouse and the rules of the space and led us into the "museum". The museum is technically two floors but the amount of exhibits can be toured in 30 minutes and an hour max if you really take your time. The main attraction was the big projector showing a 15 minute loop of AI animations which covers the whole downstairs space like a big umbrella. There is definitely some novelty sitting on the floor while the colorful projections wash over your skin for 15 minutes. But to pay $35 dollars for a 15 minute video of loop and the small exhibits upstairs? I could buy a projector and place it in an unfurnished room and get the same effect. The best part of the museum was the room upstairs with the interactive exhibits. There were a few pieces that responded to our body movements and the art changed based on the position in which we were standing. Outside of a great photo-op, there really isn't much to the Artechouse. Save your money and go to the Met or the MoMa. If you exhausted the big art museums in nyc, go to Soho and look at the galleries of your local artists. read more

Ultimately, I found the show boring and pointless. Each one of the digital pieces were very short and none of them told a story. As I think about the impact I am looking for, I think back to the psychedelic montage from 2001 A Space Odyssey. That was more visually interesting and also took us on a journey that was integral to the vision of Stanley Kubrick. None of the pieces in the Submerge show came close to evoking the same sense of awe that Kubrick provided. Modern computer games also do much better than Artechouse did. read more

I was excited to come for an immersive gallery experience but this was not it. I always see these advertisements on Instagram that look amazing, but turns out the in person experience is not the same as Instagram surprise surprise. The experience begins with a small wait in their lobby before your timed group to enter into the exhibit. You then watch a video which is them explaining the house rules but mainly advertising their bar. Afterwards there's minimal exhibits on the top floor that are supposedly motion controlled. Then downstairs is a somewhat big room with three walls and a floor full of immersive gallery art. And that's it. Basically the entire experience is one room where you watch a video for 20 minutes while sitting on the floor which is very uncomfortable. I don't know, I no longer get the hype of immersive galleries. Sure they look cool on Instagram but it feels like its just a glorified bar space that you're paying cover for. Also the 20 minute video, sure there's a lot of very beautiful graphics, does not feel immersive and honestly makes you a little dizzy. It takes less than 30 minutes to explore the entire place. Artechouse has been on my list for sometime, especially after being recommended by a friend. I brought my family here when they came to visit NYC , and my mom really enjoyed it! This might be a nice place to bring family/friends from out of town. The room was fairly crowded on a Saturday but not uncomfortable. There are cushions available so you can sit anywhere you want on the ground, while the projectors screen a loop of visual designs. It was immersive and fun (and pretty cool for some pictures/videos), but I ultimately thought it was overpriced (~$30 per person) for a 20-minute looping video. read more

This was much better than our experience at their competitor's "Arte Museum of NY" where we arrived WITH tickets and were placed at the end of a 3-block line, outdoors, in freezing December temperatures, along the river. We've always loved ARTECHOUSE and this was our 3rd time visiting! While we've loved our past experiences unfortunately this experience did not meet our expectations. The addition of the bar was a cool feature, but not one we specifically come for. Our main complaint was the complete disregard as this being an art space, not a playground. We came during the heatwave on a Saturday and while we expected there to be children, we didn't expect ARTECHOUSE to double as a playground. Children were running, flipping, doing kart wheels, etc. all over the room. This truly took away from the experience as you spent more time trying to dodge the children than enjoy the show. The past few visits we notified staff on the floor but this time there was no staff to be found- children utilized the space as a free for all and other patrons found themselves going out of their way to ensure the children didn't trip over their legs or feet while trying to enjoy the show. While we love ARTECHOUSE, we will now reconsider coming to the next show based solely on this experience. Overall, I felt like this experience is very overpriced for what you get. Yes the projectors that display this art installation are extremely impressive and leave you feeling completely submerged in the moment, however, aside from this there is not much else to do. The whole place is two stories but the lower floor is basically just the entire art installation with nothing else. Upstairs there were maybe 3 interactive areas but were a wait to get through as those were the only other aspects of Artechouse. I have been to Artechouse about 3 times now and just realized I haven't left a review. First of all, I just saw Spectacular Factory and this exhibit has been my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE (though it's on a 20-minute loop, which feels shorter than past times). I could be biased because Christmas is my favorite holiday and the second they announced they'd be doing a Christmas-themed exhibit here I jumped at the chance to see. The soundtrack for Spectacular Factory is AMAZING and I recommend any,one who's been on the fence about trying to place out to do it for this one and be DAZZLED. If someone gave me a free pass to revisit this exhibit, I'd 100% go back and experience it again. I have never tried the cocktails here so I can't comment on that, though they're now serving hot chocolate, and I would have gotten some had the upstairs area near the bar not been so WARM. At one point they also had a really cool coat check option, but I didn't see that this time. Also I do believe they've decreased their pricing since the place first opened up as well. You can stay for as long as you want, though I find an hour to an hour and a half does the trick. I just came on a Wednesday night to avoid crowds and I was able to get a seat right up at the front. Is this place somewhat pricey for what it offers? A little. I just realized as I sat on the floor spacing out at the digital art racing across the walls just how bougie an experience this is, and I LOVE IT. It is a treat to be able to pay to enter a space to sit on cushions and be immersed by the projections. And I keep coming back for more. read more

I was underwhelmed with my recent visit to Artechouse. I love the idea of immersive, experiential art, but this place offers a 20-minute "Magentaverse" themed video on loop in its main space, plus a couple of rather lame motion-sensor art pieces upstairs that hardly do anything, and that's about it. The pillars in the projection room are a distraction when you're watching, and while some of the themes of the projected art are cool, I didn't think it was worth the admission cost. (This didn't bother me, but there's very little seating for the projection room, so you'll likely have to sit on the floor.) I hope other exhibits are better, but the current Magentaverse display fell flat for me. read more

My wife and I went to this place because of social media. We were already going to be in the area since it's by High Street and the Whitney Museum. Once you make an appointment, you're pretty much set on those times. Came arrive earlier or later. You're greeted and checked in outside and once you're in, you'll get an explanation of the space and rules. They have an assortment of drinks and a few educational interactive things on the top floor corner by the bar. The main attraction is on the bottom floor which you can also view from the second floor. My only disappointment? Pillars. I wish the space was just one big space with the projected visuals. Instead you have multiple pillars that kinda become a distraction with the visuals. Either way, some effects are neat and people are respectful to make sure their kids are not running around or making too much noise. Once you're done, can exit near by into the gift shop into the restaurants. Personally, some neat visuals but I think I expected more. I know they have other locations in different cities but this is one experience I'd only check out once. read more

I've been to the Artechouse location in DC a few times, so I wanted to check out the location in NYC during my recent visit there. While the DC location is sort of isolated from other touristy venues (it's about two blocks south of the National Mall), you enter the NYC location right by the chaotic Chelsea Market. We got to the venue a bit early, but were checked in anyway. Then we were shown an intro video (just like we have when we go to the DC location). After that, we were shown into the main room. To see the main exhibit, you have to go down a flight of stairs. When we went, there were two main exhibits, Ase: Afro Frequencies and Timeless Butterflies. Both exhibits were beautiful, and the dazzling motion sometimes felt like I was on a simulator ride. The problem is, at this location, your view is obstructed by poles that probably date back to when the space was a boiler room. There were also a lot of kids running around, something I don't see much at the DC location. It's also considerably smaller than the DC location with fewer "side" exhibits. And since you exit out a door towards the left side of the main exhibit, you may want to check out what's upstairs before coming down to see the videos. It's also inconvenient because the one single-stall bathroom is upstairs. Because this is in a crowded area, having people exit a different way from entering makes it less chaotic. You also will be exiting on 16th Street, so keep that in mind. read more

Artechouse always has fun, trippy, interactive, and immersive exhibits! (And tasty cocktails) I visited for their Holiday Spectacle installation. It was very festive. I had a sugar plum carousel cocktail at the bar and it tasted like Christmas. They do all their own liquor infusions on site. There are times tickets, but you can stay as long as you'd like once you're in the space. Definitely download the app - you'll need it to experience the interactive XR elements. Purchasing tickets was a pain. The website explained its pricing poorly such that we had to work it all out again once we got there. The entrance price was already very high for a 20 minute loop (max) and there were only 2 interactive elements (only on the mezzanine).  "Multimedia" was only true in that it combined sight and sound.  I don't know why an additional pricey drink is needed to access the app. This is the least troubling aspect of the experience.  The app they suggested only works with a drink purchase, which should have been explained at the outset.  I was trying to get the app to work for 45 minutes--restart, point it at a different part of the show, restart, click on all possible buttons, restart--in hopes that it would make the entrance price worthwhile, until I finally asked someone at the bar for help. They said I needed to make a purchase in order for the app to work.  This should have been explained at the outset. The installation itself was made by AI and I dwelled more on the failures of AI and the soulless quality of its "art" than the possibilities of ase and Afrofuturism for positive community change (as suggested by the promotional materials), unless ase meant the ability to make fantastically huge amounts of money for very little human effort and massive energy consumption. This is on me and I should have researched the artist ahead of time.  Honestly, I am impressed with Fraser for being able to pull this off and with Art Tech House for publicizing it so well.  You really got me! To top it off, the male gaze weighed heavily and it felt like it was objectifying women; the poet's voiceover did nothing to mitigate this.  Some parts looked like direct ripoffs of Joshua May visionary art and mythos, and I am not sure if this was deliberate or some terrible AI accident. I waited 2 months to post this review because I never post bad reviews--I really believe people are doing their best--but I still feel cheated in this case. This is such a massive waste of money that I have to warn people so here is my first negative review since I started using Yelp in 2006. If I can save one person from having to pay for this, my suffering will have been worthwhile. read more
