Art Vancouver is an annual event that takes place at the Convention Center. If you like frequenting museums or galleries and browsing fine art pieces, you'd enjoy this festival, as there are hundreds of artists and thousands of works housed here.
The works are primarily contemporary, although there are some more traditional/literal pieces, and quite a few photographers, too. There are mostly paintings displayed, but there are also some mixed media works and a lot of sculptures (both tabletop and free-standing). Some artists also have greeting cards and posters of their works for sale (so you needn't break the bank and get that "must have" waiting for $5,000!). I like how all the works are for sale, and quite a few were priced under $1,000 (for larger works. The smaller pieces were a few hundred or less).
I like these types of events where you can do your own thing and browse on your own, or you can engage the artists and talk to them about their works and inspirations and techniques, etc.
Quite a few art galleries were also represented here, and it was helpful to me to learn what's out there (I still consider myself new to this city and still learning the ropes, so to speak).
In the rear middle of the large convention room was a stage where various artists are scheduled to speak about their art, and there are also demonstrations and art classes, too.
There's a nominal charge to get into this art convention, but I got my tickets free online the month earlier (I forget the site, but if you're interested in going, it pays to research online in advance. Lots of deals are out there!).
All in all, this was a lovely way to immerse oneself in the local art world here. I plan on visiting again next year. read more
