I was there all day and it was fun listening to the funny banter between all the guys. I felt very comfortable and welcome. This place is awesome, so chill. I pursued Art Monster after a reviews of the top 10 tattoo shops in all the Saint Louis area, thank God for picture posts so you can actually see the work. After very care review of their work and a consultation to see if they was a click of good vibe. Indeed it was meant to be....my artist is Caleb Gianino. Fist project was of deep meaning for me as I support suicide prevention and the food industry for which I was looking for my own piece showcasing support for the Chef Anthony Bourdain and his own piece of the Chrysanthemum flower. Mine came out a masterpiece thanks to Caleb. Place is super clean, everyone super friendly, it's a place to chill and be there for hours. It's looks and feels like a studio, not a barbershop like some. As a first timer, no question was stupid and open to design options and if I was open for recommendations. Chris has done by last 3 tattoos, including my very large back piece that we're currently working on. I give him my ideas and he turns it into a master creation. So talented and creative. Worth every single penny. He is the only tattoo artist I go to in Saint Louis and will continue to make special trips back to STL to see him when I need a tattoo! Highly highly recommend! read more

Chris, the owner, is the most unprofessional artist I have ever worked with. He was incredibly disrespectful to me as a client. Art Monster would close if Tommy Lucas left. Chris is nothing without Tommy. Chris is not half as talented nor half as professional as Tommy. My biggest regret is choosing Chris as my artist instead of Tommy. Multiple people warned me that Chris was both unprofessional and arrogant. In my personal experience- Chris cancelled and attempted to change my appointment 5 times. He bid me at $700 for my tattoo and charged $900 at the end. The tattoo is not even worth $700. The shading is terrible. On the day of the appointment he cancelled and I arrived to Art Monster to find Chris working on another client's tattoo. I was there for hours and Chris made eye contact with me several times and refused to acknowledge me and didn't even remember my name. I waited six months to have my tattoo finished and Chris blamed me when all was said and done. Unfortunately I will not be returning to Art Monster ever again. Update: They deleted my review from Facebook and Google and blocked me. I discovered that they tend to delete their bad reviews from Google to keep their rating up. My roommate and I were just passing through St. Louis but ended up staying the night when a bartender told us to check out Chris at Art Monster. I called him on a Sunday evening and after clearing his schedule, he called me back and told me to meet him at the shop around 8pm. We show up and he's the only one there, sketching out some cool designs for us. The vibe was super rad, and he made us coffee before he started tattooing. We got chatting and it turns out that he's the owner and they aren't open on Sundays. He made the exception for us because he got a "cool vibe from our phone call" (pretty awesome). I loved what he did on my arm and I even came back the next morning for a 4 hour touch up sesh on an older tattoo. This place is great and I hope I make it back someday so he can finish my touch up piece. read more

I give them 1 star because the gentleman who does the art is very talented and seemed like a nice guy and there isn't a spot for zero stars. His wife, the other owner, needs a lesson in customer service. I wanted a chance to look at some of their items at POINTFEST, and it was pouring down rain. Perfect opportunity right? Before I even have a chance to make my way under their tent, I get snide comments and she starts to pick a fight with me about being under her tent in the rain! She called me a bitch, and apparently I'm "useless". LOL Whatever that means in context. WOW. I have never been treated so shitty by anybody, let alone a small start up company. You would think they'd want to drum up business after only being in business for 3 years. Such a shame....Please, there are many talented artists out there, go take your pick elsewhere. read more

I can't say enough about my experience here today... I just moved back to St Louis and needed a new artist. I've been getting tattoed for 16 colorful years and 9 times out of 10 i will look into a shop or artist and walk right back out- i cannot stand tattoo artists that are pretentious or rude, and St Louis seems to be plagued with douchebags in this particular field. Not this guy! From making the appointment till the time i walked out, Chris Sabatino (the owner) was as kind and helpful as could be. He and his shop hit all the right notes- friendly, talented and knowledgeable, clean beautiful shop, the price was just right and i felt comfy and well taken care of from start to finish. Chris impressed me as innovative and passionate about his work and all the supplies he used were 1 time only disposable items- very health conscious. I've had many experiences at many shops around the country, this was one of if not the best, hands down. His wife came to help up front while he tattooed me, and was very friendly too....yelpers, i suggest you get to know this shop now, because it won't be long before this place takes off! St louis needs a shop like this, im glad i found it, and i cant wait to work witg Chris and Rebecca on many future inkings to come. read more

Finally got my full-color phoenix tattoo that I've waited ages for... I just needed to find the right artist, and I did with Chris! He's incredibly professional and talented, and his shop has the coolest vibe. Art Monster is definitely not your dingy hole-in-the-wall tattoo shop; it literally felt like being in an art studio. I ended up at Art Monster because my regular tattoo artist began working there. The shop is nice, very clean and modern. I like all the artwork with the shop's logo. As I stated before, I went because my artist, Jeremy Lambert began working there but everyone I met was very friendly. The owner introduced himself and I believe I also met his brother, who I think was the manager. I felt very welcomed. Obviously I am pleased with the quality of work done as it was my regular artist. I did have a chance to see some pictures of the work done by the owner and his stuff looks pretty great too. Parking can be a bit of a pain since it's street parking on Cherokee but it's worth the fuss to help support our local small businesses, especially in areas like Cherokee where revitalization is such a huge effort. read more

Sort of upset.. Got my first tattoo today and showed up with my best friend to get matching tattoos by two different artist on the same image that was simple wording. Coming through the door was not reassuring or much good energy. The two artists had some kind of tension between them and were bickering. and were both hinting to wanting to take my friend over me because most likely her gender. The artist who did mine was more in a hurry more than anything and did not pay attention to detail what so ever and it was a very simple tattoo. Especially with it being in a different language with easier writing it did not look the same as my friend's who was sharper and clear and detailed the way we both wanted ours. Just dissapointed that he also didn't care to tell me much about caring for the tattoo after asking about it. Going to get a touch up at another well known place never will I ever get another tattoo here again and I am a very fair person and... it just wasn't right in multiple of areas. read more

I came here for my first tattoo, and I was a little nervous (understandable if you know I'm extremely terrified of needles). I walked in and I was immediately at home. I felt comfortable, welcomed, and Chris was really, really helpful in letting me know more of what it would be like and the actual process. He also helped me personalize the basic idea I had found on the internet (an eating disorder recovery symbol), and it was really well executed. He took his time talking to me and making me feel at ease through the whole thing, which wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
