My friend and I were exploring the city of Wauwatosa and found this little artisan cheese shop and it was adorable! They have a lot of European products, but our cheese master was able to help us create a Best of Wisconsin charcuteria box for us. I really wished we didn't stuff ourselves with a very filling lunch otherwise we would have enjoyed our snacks there at their bar area. We decided to place our order and come back later in the afternoon to pick it up since we planned to walk around the city for a bit. We returned at 430pm to pick up our board and our cheesemaster was the absolute sweetest. She wrote everything down so we knew what cheese we were trying and it came with some nuts and other accoutrements. The service here is top notch and I happen to make a return visit to Wauwatosa I'll definitely want to try more!

We had a group of 10- and had such a nice evening. Someone needs to be designated driver- the cocktails were outstanding and the chocolate pairings were so complimentary. The owner was our host and she was so impressive. Loved every minute of our night. We will be back for more classes. And don't forget the chocolate. The cherry cordial probably was our favorite of the night. Bought a box- will not be sharing them at all.

We were a group of 13 and we were excited to get the night started here with a tasting. The wine was fantastic, I discovered some new favorite cheeses as well, and the chocolate was delicate, beautiful, and melted in your mouth. If you have not done tasting here you really should give it a try. It would make for the perfect date night, even. My favorite wine was 2018 Bodegas Nekas El Chaparrall Garnacha, my choice for cheese is Luna (Apline/Gouda Blend from WI), and the Gray Salt Caramel Truffle won my vote for best chocolate. The staff takes you through each grouping prior to your tasting providing background information as well as why the 3 items pair well together. I would have given a 5 star rating, but towards the end of our visit we waited for a significant amount of time before getting information on the 3rd pairing because another party had shown up. With only a staff of 2, they were not able to get that party started and come back to us without many of us wondering what was taking so long.

The history of Milwaukee and growth of the business was really interesting. We enjoyed seeing the distillery and learning and the process. I saw a couple of barrels I am excited to try in the future!! Grape Brandy and Cherry Brandy! At the end of the tour we had a tasting. My favorites were Honey Lemon Vodka, Gin, Cranberry Liqueur, and the Coffee Liqueur. I do not enjoy Bourbons and Rye Whiskey but I will say that the Bond Bourbon was smooth. This was a fun experience and I highly recommend giving this place a visit! I know we will come back again! For Christmas Gifts, or to try more of the fantastic drinks! Good but expensive…read more I am in beer city USA and found this distillery to be quite expensive. They let you sample all of their products for $1 each, or if you buy a bottle the samples are free (as of May 2026). We tried the whiskies, ryes, and bourbons. All were good, but not worth $70 a bottle for what we wanted. They do have sales and some better priced products. However, I was shocked that the bourbon I liked ended up being $70 a bottle. I've had lots of bourbon in my day and I don't think it's worth $70 a bottle. Another one I liked was $50 a bottle which I also think is quite high for the flavor profile and burn. If you want to have fun and sample a bunch, then give it a shot. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here unless it's in my route. It was good just not great for the price. They also sell pre mixed drinks that were super sugary and not very flavorful.

They have it separated by location and cover all price points. Everyone can find something. I was given space to look around. Twice someone asked me if I needed help, but it was polite and not pushy. Once I found a Montepulciano I was interested in, someone came over from the bar to check me out. I asked him if it was possible to get one of the cheese trays to go, and was told it was no problem. He would ring it up for me and get right on it. He offered me a seat at the bar while I waited, but I was happy just looking at their other wine options. The cheese plate was super tasty, and a really good value at $15. There were four cheeses, grapes, almonds, crasins, and bread. We really liked the selection and were impressed with the size. Seriously nothing but good things to say. A wonderful reason to visit the market.

They also have a full area where you can buy bottles from all over the world. Lastly they offer some snacks for purchase like charcuterie board, cheese, nuts, and other small plates.

I attended this event Saturday after receiving a complimentary pass for attending the Inside Eats…read morepanel discussion earlier that day. I learned that Wine & Dine Wisconsin was in it's 5th year, but I could swear that I attended more than 5 years ago, maybe it was a similar event with a similar name at the same venue, or it was reinvented, or maybe I was there 5 years ago (likely). I can tell you that I never went back because the event had more wine than food and I wasn't wowed by any of it. Plus the layout of the event seemed to encourage bottle necks. What is it about a row of tables that makes a large crowd feel obligated to start at the first table and form a line moving table to table? So instead of multiple lines perpendicular to each table, allowing a person to choose which lines he/she wants to stand in, there is just one LONG, agonizingly slow moving line because the people who never get out have to stop and make friends with the people working the table and talk about how the item reminds them of their daughter's wedding or a vacation they went on. Nobody cares! Just keep moving. I spent most of my time in line and did not get my money's worth, which was $45 or $50 at the time, if I remember right. That was the event that I remember. This event was NOT that, at all. The floor plan for this event was brilliant, IMHO. There wasn't even a pattern for me to travel up and down aisles or starting at an outer perimeter and moving toward the center. It seemed random, which I loved! There were no more than two tables side by side at any point on the floor. Traffic flow moved well, except for two areas. The cheese islands had the continuous line of people moving station to station, but there were several cheese islands so that helped. I didn't go to any of them because of the aforementioned line of slow moving herds. The other area where traffic did not move well was the chili cook-off area. There were six participants and of course everyone started at the first table and the line formed behind them and got really long and hopeless. So I skipped to table 4, where there was NO LINE because the people at tables 1-3 were chit-chatting. I hit tables 4-6 with no wait, then went back and found a gap at table 2 between chatty chili eaters, then grabbed a sample from Table 3 and called it a day. Sorry Table 1, I couldn't get to you and I was not willing to wait for 30-35 people to pass through before I could. I voted for the chili from Table 6. Rant completed. I feel better now. So, there was beer, wine, spirits, and food. If that's not a party, than I don't know what is. I only visited a small number of beer, wine, and spirit vendors because I still had my nephew's 21st birthday party that night, and I'm a responsible adult (mostly). I specifically looked for beers I've never tried before, and was able to find a handful. There was a large section called "The Best of Belgium" or something to that effect. I got excited! I love Belgian beers. Then I noticed the Stella Artois signs everywhere and realized that was probably all they were serving. Stella Artois has a brilliant marketing department. I don't think that beer even slightly embodies a Belgian beer, but the light beer drinkers love it, so more power to them. I want nothing to do with it. Central Standard Distillery was serving samples of three of their craft cocktails. LOVE that idea. Getting away from sampling straight alcohol and instead offering up craft cocktail (the latest hot trend in the industry) samples is a nice change of pace. Great Lakes Distillery may have been doing the same, but I'm already familair with their products, so I skipped that booth. There were three stages with chef demos, drink demos, and other cooking related presentations. I stopped at the Chef's Stage to watch Chef Michael Feker. He's very passionate about what he does and has a fun personality, so he puts on a great show! This was no exception. He made a squash soup and we each received a delicious sample. My favorite part of the day was visiting the Critics Choice area. This area featured food samples from Carol Deptolla's Top 30 restaurants. Most were there, but not all. The food samples were great for the most part, and the area also offered beer and wine samples. Guests attending the main event needed to purchase a separate $30 ticket to this area. To be honest, I probably would have just paid the $30 to attend this area and called it a day. $65 for the main event and $30 for Critics Choice brings you up to $95! Was it worth it? The Critics Choice area for $30, I say yes. The main event for $65? I say probably, especially if you go there to try EVERYTHING. I wasn't there to try everything, nor did I want to attend every presentation. I can see that valuation, but it's hard to drop $95 on any event. Based on my experience this year, I will at least CONSIDER going & buying tickets next year. So mission accomplished, W&D WI!

Skatterbrain Dark Chocolate Banana Whiskey: Skatterbrain produces a plethora of eccentrically…read moreflavored whiskeys. Information on Skatterbrain is next to non-existent, but I can tell you that my "research" revealed all of their whiskeys share one thing in common (well maybe two if you include they're all fun flavors). That commonality is they all have an animal wearing sunglasses on the bottle. In the case of the Dark Chocolate banana Whiskey, it's appropriately a gorilla. Total Wine (where I purchased it) describes it as smooth Canadian whisky blended with the flavors of dark chocolate and banana with rich, fruity, and complex qualities. I question the reliability of that though as Skatterbrain spells it as "whiskey" on their bottle, which is typical of American and Irish Whiskey, but not Canadian "Whisky". I found the chocolate flavor to be stronger than the banana, but the two make an interesting combo. I wasn't bananas about it initially, but it grew on me, making it an acquired taste. I don't know how others drink this, but I found it worked nicely in my version of a "Dirty Monkey" (recipe below). Although I found this whiskey to my liking, I still prefer my go to banana rum for this type of drink.
