I was tasked with the job of procuring a flower arrangement for a funeral held on Saturday at Rose Hills. There was nine of us who went in for the arrangement. I met with the owner to discuss our budget, specific flowers and certain colors. The owner showed me the flowers they would use. At the memorial all nine of our names were on a banner and all requested flowers were included, plus orchids that weren't requested, but much appreciated. Helped friend Ordered 2 Hong Kong style rose bouquets as Thank you gifts for a business event. I think it is $80 per dozen with choice of color, and you also got a butterfly decor in the bouquet. They did a fabulous job on the bouquets, it was so very glitter and tons of ribbons. We had to attend a funeral event and we walked in wanting to get some sort of bouquet of flowers that is appropriate for the occasion but didn't know where to start. Review part 1 of 2 My husband and I volunteered to take on the family task of ordering funeral arrangements for our grandmother. We were yelping florist in the Alhambra and Monterey Park area. We visited several locations and settled with Arts in Flowers for many reasons that you will find below. I rarely write reviews but my reason for this lengthy review is because I am beyond pleased with the service and quality of product that I received form Arts in Flowers. About the florist: Arts in flowers is small family owned mom and pop florist. It's a whole in a wall place hidden by many local surrounding florists. The florist is owned by Michael and his wife Tracy. This is not a shi shi fancy florist with lots of arrangements in display, nor does it have a small gift shop of accessories, but don't be turned away by this as you will find from my review their workmanship and flowers they create are beautiful. Street parking is usually easily found. First impressions count: When I first walked into this florist Michael (the owner) was assisting another family with funeral order. When he saw us come in, he politely excused himself from his current customers and hustled over to let us know he would be with us shortly. He quickly opened up two chairs and invited us to take a seat. His facial expression, voice, and gesture were extremely welcoming. I didn't have to wait long before his wife provides me with a book of pictures. Since I was making multiple orders for family (and didn't live local to the area) I spent nearly an hour in the store, taking my time looking at pictures, jotting down numbers for some pre-designed sprays and wreaths, and asking lots of questions. Not once did the owners rush me. They were very helpful in answering all my questions in great detail to my satisfaction. They even had some samples of freshly made funeral sprays to show me. Flowers: You're not going to see a wide variety of flowers in the refrigerator. This is not a bad thing because I learned that Michael makes special trips to the floral warehouse to purchase flowers in the morning according to the orders he receives. So be assured that your flowers are the freshest they can be, because they really are "made to order." Michael has a variety of arrangements he can make for funerals; wreaths (round, heart, cross, etc.) baskets, and sprays. I ordered multiple sprays and a basket arrangement. You can get a decent nice spray arrangement for $139 but I chose some that were $150 and $160. Worth every penny! See sample pictures. I should mention my expertise in flower arrangements. I worked in a florist many years before I graduated from college and became a working professional. I can contest that flowers provided by Art in Flowers are very fresh and the cost that you are paying is very reasonable. I did not negotiate any cost because I felt it was worth it. If you're someone that is local, I encourage you to drop by the store before placing a order so that you can see all the pictures in their sample book. If you can't make the trip out, you can place your order over the phone. You can be confident they will create something beautiful for you. Just give them a price range of $139 or more for a beautiful spray. You can even specify color scheme. I especially love their sprays. Funeral Writing: I needed a florist that could write in Chinese for me. Michael is both fluent in Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) with conversational English. From the sample pictures you will see that the writing on these funeral arrangements are amazing, beautiful and clear. At first I thought it was his amazing penmanship but later realized (if you look really close) that it is actually printed work. Most local florist only write the words, often times font size is irregular and not clear. When I emailed Michael the Chinese writing for each of my orders, he helped me edit with proper grammar and sent me drafts for final approval. We actually went through three versions (mostly my fault because we needed to add more names). Not once did Michael show any frustration or annoyance. Part 2 of 2 Customer Service you can't find anywhere: What I love about local small family owned business is that one, you're supporting small business local community, and two, you get a unique wholesome care that is hard to find in chains business these days. It seemed that almost every customer that came into the shop was someone that Michael and Tracy knew by name. Which took Michael by surprise that I actually found his florist, since I wasn't a local and didn't come by referrals. Michael knew that I didn't live close so he provided me with ways I could place my order later on. He even provided me with his personal cell phone number! Most of my correspondences with Michael actually were actually from text and emails. The night before the funeral viewing I received one late order request. I sent Michael an email for the order at 1AM in the morning. I told him to call me when he was ready for the writing. He called me prompt and early the next day at 7AM and I was done with the transaction for delivery that same day at 2PM. When I arrived at the chapel for the viewing I cannot tell you how beyond words I was with the floral arrangements. They were beautiful, nicely sized, and very fresh. I was worried that I would disappoint the family members with the decisions I made when choosing the arrangements. But that day all I received were praises with how nice the flowers turned out. If Grandma was watching from above, I think the flowers would have made her happy. I was very emotionally touched with the outcome. On the day of the burial I was taken by surprise when Michael texted me his condolences. This is such a thoughtful and sweet gesture that I will always remember and appreciate. Something you don't expect from a business. Sadly my husband lost both paternal and maternal grandmothers within two weeks of each other. I will be returning to Michael for more funeral arrangements. It is a very tough time for our family, but I am at eased knowing that the floral arrangements will be handled with care. Just my two cents Despite one negative yelp review on saw, I still chose to check out Art in Flowers and I am very glad I did. One client mentioned that she felt Michael was rude because they asked him "if it would look nice." This is where a culture barrier can be taken into wrong context. In Chinese culture it is common for clients to ask these questions, especially elderly. Having once been in the floral profession myself I have been asked this question before. The response that Michael gave is actually a Chinese phrase. I can see how it can be taken out of context as rude but it's just the wording expression that can be taken out of context when directly translated to English. read more
