The place is really a pub with a few rooms upstair. It can be a bit noisy in the evening because of the pub but rooms are clean and nice (European size, so not very large). Price are on the cheap side and you get an excellent value. I paid 60 euro for a single room and that included breakfast. The dutch breakfast is served in the morning in the pub and include coffee, juice, local cheese, eggs, bread and cold meats. Quite good to start the morning. The wifi is also free (rare in Europe). The hotel is well located the the little town's center with some nice restaurant and cheese shops nearby. Edam is know for originating the "edam" cheese of course which is quite tasty especially when aged. It is an historic walled city and it is quite charming. I did use Edam as based the last time I went to IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) in Amsterdam when all the hotels there are booked and prices are outrageous. Edam is a short 30 minutes drive to the RAI exhibition center (less to downtown Amsterdam) and this hotel offer that way an peaceful, nice and inexpensive alternative to staying in Amsterdam (yes, it does imply a bit more logistics). The easy free street parking in front of the hotel makes it easy to commute to Amsterdam by car. An alternative is to use the bus service to Amsterdam which is a bit slower but also convenient.

Lots of reasons to visit Edam. This beautifull place just outside Amsterdam has a great old centre…read morewith canals, bridges. A mini mini Amsterdam that should be in your agenda's when exploring places around Amsterdam. The Harmonie is a Dutch bar with white sand on the floor. This was used to keep the floor clean from sailors chewing tabacco and spitting on the floor. Als the sand was used to attract people by creating nice drawings in it. No spitting during my visit yesterday, its there just to keep the floor clean or to look bit authentic :). The Harmonie hosted the Walk about Music festival where singer songwriters perform in different locations in Edam. Walk in Edam, enjoy the city and the music of the performers. Had a view drinks in the Harmonie and was great atmosphere there. Will return sooon !!

We booked this hotel based off of an internet search. We were told by a Hotel employee at another…read moreresort to come to Volendam so we did. We took the bus here from Amsterdam and the bus stop is in front of the hotel. Upon arrival the Agent was professional and knowledgeable. We were thinking of staying another night and she told us there was only one room left so we booked it. The first night we stayed in the junior suite. It was about $110 euros more than a standard room. The second night we had a standard room. I would not rent the junior suite again since I didn't think it was worth the extra money for just more space and nothing extra. We had the breakfast at the hotel. We found it very good with eggs, bacon and sausage to name a few items. The Buffett was well worth the 14 euros or so we paid. We also had appetizers at the bar the second night. The wine by the bottle is very reasonable and we enjoyed sitting outside to eat. Although this is a smoking area with no designated non smoking but it is off season so no smokers got in our space. It would be nice to have an area for non smoking outside so you could enjoy the patio without someone smoking next to you. The draw back for some on this hotel Is town is over 1.5 mile walk. This was not a problem for us since we like to walk but it is a bit far I would think for some travelers. You could take the bus into town. All in all a good suggestion to see the town and we enjoyed the hotel.

The mattress was really comfortable but the comforter was like a kid size in the U.S. Same for the shower, loved that there was a handheld AND a rainshower but the pressure was pathetically low. I also really liked the bathroom design and layout, so much so that if I were to ever remodel my bathroom, I would do the design the same way as this hotel. The towels could have been a bit more bigger in size and fluffier too, but otherwise it was a good price for a good nights stay. I think the one area for improvement is the dining. Firstly there is no toaster facility, and you have to ask the servers to get your toast warmed up for you. So if toasters could be placed in the main dining area that would be great. Secondly, if the food like the salads and cold meats etc could be labelled, that would help you self identify your food restrictions rather than having to wait until one of the servers came by. Lastly, the food, for both breakfast and lunch was split and kept in two different places, but there wasn't any signs to let one know that. For breakfast, the cereals were in the middle of the room, and because there was no labels, mum ended up with buttermilk rather than milk in her cereal, and she said it tasted horrible and ended up getting another bowl - but we both abhorred the waste of good food. Then for lunch, we again didn't realize the salad bar was in the middle, we just saw the pasta walking straight in and to the right. Again no labeling, so mum who is a vegetarian ended up eating some fish salad by mistake. One big plus at lunch was that they served gluten free bread :) Oh, also for breakfast, find the fresh orange juice machine. That was just truly awesome.
