This is a gorgeous mural that demands your attention. It serves as the backdrop to some parking…read morespots and overlooks a gas station. It is on the side of FTC Bank. It took a village to put this mural together. It was designed by Lisa Marie Thalhammer, Maggie O'Neill. Nia Keturah Calhoun and painted with assistance by Ashley Jaye Williams, Zey Uruc, Diane Decosta, Wendy Sittner Mundy Spears, Mercedes, & Julianne Brienza. The piece was completed in 2021 with support from Shaw Main Streets & Artbox DC and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Public Art Building Communities grant program. The mural towers to 50 feet and is said to reclaim the US Capitol Building as a symbol for democracy, equity, and unity. When I say the mural is colorful, I mean it is really colorful. Its rainbow is made up of 13 colors that celebrate diversity and symbolize the intersection of all human identities. The mural was inspired by the Women's March on Washington and seeks to demonstrate unity among people. It represents a celebration of peaceful protest and illustrates the resilience of the human spirit. Ivory silhouette figures at the mural's foreground pay homage to important historical movements such as civil rights, gay liberation, and women's liberation. I must say that I really like this mural. It is one of my favorites in the District. In addition to the vivid color. The artwork is amazing and very detailed. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed in the past, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there for less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider adding stops at other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

The Together Mural reclaims the U.S. Capitol Building as a symbol for democracy, equity, and unity. It is a celebration of peaceful protest and illustrates the resilience of the human spirt. These are so fun because they are huge, interactive, and visible from all angles. Definitely worth visiting before they're uninstalled!

On exhibit until January 30, 2026, this is #3 of the 17 installations in Farragut Square, called…read moreSahale, created by Michael Enn Sirvet. The powder-coated 8-foot aluminum sculpture was inspired by a perilous ascent of Mount Sahale in the North Cascades National Park in the state of Washington. It's in front of the Army-Navy Club building surrounded by bushes and you can only see it head on (can't walk around to the sides or back). It's not as impressive as the others in the Art Ave collection but since it's in the same few blocks as the rest, it's nice to check out.
