I arrived and there were two staff members neither of whom spoke English. I booked a double room…read moresingle use but was given a single room but charged the same price. The use of the key was explained in mime. After a day out sightseeing I returned in the afternoon to a darkened and empty floor. Even the fish tank lights were out. All the doors were closed with private signs. There was no one there. I went out for dinner and returned to the same situation. They advertised free WiFi but you needed a password which I did not have so I had to burn my cell data to book my train and access my e-mail. They advertised a terrace but I never found one until the next morning when the private door was open for the breakfast room. The terrace was off this room. Too late as I wanted to sit on the terrace and enjoy the sunset. And how hard is it to properly hard cook an egg? I tried to remove the shell for five minutes and finally gave up. I never did find any of the bathroom toiletries that were promised. The room and bathroom down the hall were clean and there was a portable air conditioner set up in my room but other than that, I was on my own and promised facilities were not provided: terrace, WiFi and toiletries. I stayed in monasteries that had provided better services and facilities. The location was great, only two blocks from Piazza Bra and the Arena. But the lack of any information, staff or the promised WiFi and terrace will not have me returning to Al Filiarmonico. I think for the price I can do better than this.

This place is a GEM! I will definitely stay there again. In fact it's so great I don't know if I…read moreshould put a review on here as I don't want the prices to go up or the place to be fully booked next year when I go back! A 5 minute taxi/bus ride from the train station, 2 minute walk from Piazza Bra and the Arena (in fact you can see the Arena arches from the balcony), yet on a quiet side street and two doors from a supermarket this place couldn't be better situated. Very cheap compared to other hotels in Verona (half the price of some of the two star establishments) and with good reviews everywhere I looked online, I can't rate this place highly enough. The wonderful landlady Vittoria doesn't speak a word of English but will happily use the translator on her computer or let you struggle through with your phrasebook (giving you a glow of pride at being able to make a sentence understood!!). She is very friendly and welcoming, happy to book taxis and make recommendations. We wanted to eat breakfast on the balcony and after the first morning when we had just taken our stuff out there, when we got up the next day she had laid the table especially for us, remembering who had coffee, who had tea etc. The breakfast was very good; warm croissants and olive ciabatta, ham, cheese, freshly prepared fruit salad, muesli, yoghurts, fresh orange juice and tea and coffee. I was almost put off from booking when I read that there were shared bathrooms, but there are three - 2 with large showers, one with a great bath and only 4 bed rooms: 3 doubles and a family room, so plenty really, never had to wait. The whole place is clean and well maintained with eclectic but tasteful decor from Vitoria's various travels and I just love it! One word of warning, it is on the 5th floor which is accessed by a bit of an old rickety lift so if you have a problem with that.
