It's something of a rarity to find a craftsperson who genuinely takes pride in his work - and holds…read morethat work and himself to a higher standard: Bill Richards is such a craftsperson. We had several hundred sq feet of hardwood to refinish in our home in Carmel, covering a few rooms, stairs, and a hallway, some of which, unbeknownst to us, had experienced water damage. We spoke with, and solicited quotes from, no less than 6 contractors in the area, among which Bill Richards Hardwood Floors. He was generous with his time, insight, and recommendations, both while on-site and via phone and email - and we considered his quote, which was competitive. Our only hesitation at the outset was that he was booked several weeks out. (In retrospect, however, that should have been a positive indicator!) Based on the substantial time that he invested in responding to our questions, the many change orders / changes to quote that we requested as we modified what we wanted, and that, of all the contractors we met with, he appeared to be the most genuine and transparent, we opted to go with him. And - we could not be more content with that decision or the job that he performed! Among other aspects, he uncovered and repaired boards that had been damaged by water, seamlessly weaving new boards into the existing, noted and repaired broken flooring, well outside of the scope of work ("Because it's the right thing to do."), consulted as we considered the best stain for the wood, proposed an inlay to the step for both aesthetics and strength, and left us with tips and tricks for hardwood maintenance and repair moving-forward. What's more: he carved out some time during our job to pop by an adjacent family member's home to do some rapid repair work, as well! He's truly cut from a different cloth - and his consultative approach, quality of work, and commitment to doing "the right thing, the right way" exemplify this.
