The large camper was so spacious, very comfortable, and all the kiddos had a blast having a sleepover with Grandma in it. Everyone had a nice spot to sleep and we even had a craft game day inside with the family and it fit all of us nicely. The two cabins we rented were so cute and so comfy, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. We spent our days chatting by the camp fire, exploring the creek side, fishing and taking walks over the bridge, it was a peaceful fun adventure with the little ones, something I hope the older ones will always remember and cherish. The hosts were so great at responding to anything we asked for. We had forgotten all our markers and crayons and they brought us a big box with scissors and everything. So grateful it was so close to my sister's house and it was so quiet too, like we had the whole place to ourselves. We would definitely love to come visit Hideaway River Farm during the summer, go tubing and attend a live music event. Thank you so much for your kindness and being so helpful.

I've been going to One Eyed Willy's for years now. I've been on a 10-15 person bachelorette party…read moretrip, two 30+ person college student/young adult trip, as well as a one-day non-camping float with my husband and I. My most recent was one of those giant group trips this past weekend. I've also floated at NRO and some crappy site around Steelville (Green's maybe?). There's definitely a reason we keep going back to OEW's and will continue to do so. First of all, Brian, the owner, is a super nice guy. We hadn't made it down there in about 3 years, and he still remembered me "Last time I saw you, you just got engaged!". Though not great at answering e-mails (just don't bother), the staff is quick to return phone calls if you leave a voicemail. The campsite itself has a nice layout, and they keep improving. Port-o-potties are serviced often, and they have a small shower, bathroom, and store close to the campsite (previously they were only available way up the hill, so thumbs up on the improvement!). The showers and bathrooms were clean and well lit, unlike some other places I've been. By the time we booked, the aluminum canoes were all gone, which is usually how we go, because they're cheaper. Now, no longer being the broke college student, I will ALWAYS pay the measly $5 extra for the fiberglass canoes. Molded seats...worth every penny. Remember that. In general, the Niangua is a great river to float on. Decent current, good sand bars, and nice cold water! And if you're going to float the Niangua, go to One Eyed Willy's!

We reserved a 50 amp electric only camp site (the ones with water hookups were already reserved)…read morefor two nights at the Pittsburg campground. We initially ended up at the Hermitage campground (after dark pulling a 38' fifth wheel) and couldn't find out spot. There was a park ranger that was driving around and lead us to the Pittsburg site and we were thankful for his assistance. Filling the fifth wheel with water was easy as the water supply was located in a large area near the entry. Check in was a breeze as it was done with your mobile. I do wish the campsite itself was longer and had more parking. The site barely fit the fifth wheel and truck on the paved area and there's no parking in the grass, so we had to park our second vehicle near the entrance with available parking. Backing in a fifth wheel in a pitch-black campsite is always fun, but thankfully it only took 1 try. The site had a covered picnic table and lots of shade which was nice. Out site was a bit far from the bathhouse so it was a trek to shower/use facilities. We used the camper most of the time, but without water hookup, tried to use the water in the tank more sparingly for dishes and cooking. There was a nice little playground area with equipment for the kiddos. The beach was nice sized and some had trees so you didn't burn up in the sun. If you hit the beach, bring water shoes because it's very rocky and they are sharp. For $25 a night, I was satisfied with the campground and enjoyed the time with my family.

I completely forgot about pictures, my phone, Wi-fi, the city, stress and just lived in the moment!…read moreHowever when I was searching for a camping/float trip weekend pictures were scarce. So I told myself don't forget to get pictures of the mini store, playground, bathrooms, cabins, yurt, camping spots and so now all I can share are my memories. Which are pretty great! With this being my first visit, this is what I would do on my next: Even though I liked the yurt and it was comfy enough, I would probably add the cabin next to it for the adults. Just to be more comfortable, Yurts which are permanent tents, have room to sleep 5-6 with a fan and outlet. We brought our own fans too. The cabins do have AC units and a mini fridge but still no bathrooms. The community bathrooms have 2 showers and 2 toilets each, surprisingly their was never much of a wait. It is highly recommended that if your going to float the river which takes about 4 hours, Caplinger provides canoes and transportation for pick up and drop off, set out no later than 10am. We did a mini float (we had 4 kids under the age of 6), with our own raft and we parked a car down stream at the next bridge since we had 2 cars. Just for a heads up, the river flows fairly quickly so not much paddling needed. With our own raft we made sure to bring all our kids a life vest. It's as shallow as 3 inches to 10 ft in some spots before the damn is opened. After which it's just all flooded, moves even faster and much deeper. By 4pm even the campsites see a significant rise in water but still a good 200ft from the cabins all of which recedes before you wake up the next morning. Which also means lots of mud (let the reader understand). We just brought a sturdy stick to push away from protruding branches and rocks. A kid did jump out (because kids do that, well ours did) but we had an adult outside the raft walking/floating alongside just for such an event! Highly recommend booking in advance.
