Had a disappointing experience with Dave, found through Nextdoor after I posted for a door replacement. He responded promptly and was communicative, giving a same-day quote that seemed reasonable. Dave started work the following week, but the invoice ended up being higher than quoted; I paid, expecting professional results.
During installation, Dave broke a floor tile and several side pieces. He explained that with older homes, this kind of damage was inevitable, and assured me he'd fix it, provided I bought the new tile myself. I was then charged extra for this repair, which was supposed to be included, he needed to add more trim to the door and this became an additional $85 charge for him to pick it up.
After all these unexpected costs, Dave still did not complete the job properly. I ended up hiring another contractor just to fix the issues and advise on the problems with the door. Here's what I was left to fix, despite having paid for a full installation:
* Paint the door
* Touch up and properly paint the outside trim (his work was messy, told me to clean up after him)
* Clean grout left on the tile
* Add more trim at the top--holes were left that should have been filled with wood trim
* The back door outside is sitting on "air," with nothing supporting it
* Tile spacing is thick and uneven, and several side pieces were broken during installation
I trusted Dave because he seemed knowledgeable but used my payment to buy tools he claimed he already knew how/had to use. Unfortunately, my experience was costly and frustrating. Photos attached for reference. read more
