Fitchburg Public Market - Stuffed fried chicken and cheese arepa

Fitchburg Public Market

Criollo Restaurant!…read more We love this place! Hands down our most frequent restaurant stop. We have been coming here since they first opened and have not slowed down since. One of the biggest wins for us is how allergy friendly they are. My husband has multiple allergies including soy, wheat, dairy, and peanuts, and he still has several solid menu options he can safely enjoy. That alone keeps us coming back. Our kids are obsessed with the empanadas, which are made with corn, so even my husband can have those too. Total family win. My go to is the stuffed chicken arepa with cheese. Fried or grilled, it is excellent either way, and I like switching it up. Around the holidays they added pork arepas, which quickly became my husband's favorite. Customer service deserves a shout out. The staff is attentive, genuinely friendly, and consistent. We have built a great rapport with them over time, and it shows. They really care about their customers. Seating is limited since they are located inside Fitchburg's Market and share space with other vendors, but it has not been an issue for us. We usually avoid peak lunch hours. Bonus points for being family friendly. They have card games, crayons, and paper to keep kids entertained while waiting for food. Parking in the market lot can be tight, but street parking nearby is usually easy to find. Overall, this spot is a gem. Easily the best, if not the only, Venezuelan food option in Central Mass and absolutely worth a visit or many.

The Fitchburg Public Market is a small food hall offering several small quick service food & drink…read morecounters options including Candy Lady Confections, BFK Cuisine (Haitian food), La Colombiana (Colombian food), Evie Cakes (bakery goods), Criollo House (Venezuelan food), Taco Queen, El Friquitan De Jenny (Puerto Rican food), Pudgey Tea (bubble tea), and Social Dough (Detroit style pizza). There is also table seating inside too. I stopped by Fitchburg Public Market initially for a Taro Boba Milk Tea ($8.24 plus tax) from Pudgey Tea, which I ordered online. As I was waiting for my drink, I decided that I wanted to get a couple of pizza slices from Social Dough too. The Social Dough owner was very busy trying to get a large order ready with the main kitchen on the other side of the food hall. I began to enjoy my bubble tea drink as I waited, which was not too sweet as ordered. After the big pizza order was completed, I picked out two thick square slices including a cupped pepperoni slice ($4.50 plus tax) and a portobello mushroom & red onion slice ($4.50 plus tax), both reheated in the small oven. I was also was given a bag of Wachusett Potato Chips and a glass bottle of Polar Root Beer at no charge for the wait. The pizza slices had a thick soft chewy crust topped with a zesty red sauce, caramelized melted cheese and toppings, both topped off with parmesan cheese. I enjoyed my tasty thick pizza slices, chips, and cold root beer (I used a bottle opener keychain) at a nearby park. I will definitely have to come back to Fitchburg Public Market to try out the other food options including some birria tacos, burgers, and waffle pops.
