Rude and racist server…read more Avoid at all cost! My sisters and I were abused by one of the servers working at this place. We had gone on vacation to the South of France and stayed in Frejus for a couple of days. This is a lovely town - but one with a certain reputation because of the way it votes.. My sister and I are black. We left our hotel late in the day - early afternoon time looking for a restaurant/bar where we could eat. Prior to arriving at this place, we had stopped at others where customers were still sitting in their chairs (with some drinking and eating still) and had been informed they had closed/were no longer serving food and drinks and would reopen in the evening. Consequently, as we were walking past this one and bearing in mind what all the previous ones had told us, when we saw a server, we asked him whether they were still open (serving food) - instead of simply answering yes or no, this man looked at us with disdain and said mockingly - of course we are closed. Naively I actually believed him. It is my sister who picked up on the fact he was being sarcastic and mocking us and she asked him whether he was being sarcastic. He mockingly repeated 'yes we are closed' gesturing at the customers who were sitting and they all started laughing. My sister got upset and I told him I actually believed him when he said they were closed and asked him why he would say that. He walked right up to my face with a nasty and menacing look on his face and said to me in a loud voice - ´if you ask dumb questions - you will get dumb answers'. I could not believe my ears and how rude this man was being and was left speechless. My sister spoke up and said - 'why are you saying it is a dumb question' and started trying to explain the reason we had asked the question in the first instance. This man just walked past her. I grabbed her arm and told her to leave it and that we should just walk away. None of the other customers (all white) who witnessed this spoke up and challenged the racist behaviour of this man. If you are a person of colour, avoid this place.

We ate in the garden and the food was prepared there too by Alain, the co-owner. The menu was not large but was comprehensive and no one in our party of six had any trouble in finding something. In fact we all wanted to try several dishes so we ordered as many different dishes as possible and plates were passed freely around the table. The service by Giselle, Alains wife and co-owner was not intrusive but she always managed to be close to hand when we required something. There was no rush to make us vacate our table and we were only ever made to feel totally comfortable and welcome. I just wish that we were able to stay for a night and sample the full package but our schedule would not allow it. Would we go here again in a heartbeat! The road up to this little treasure is not for the faint hearted but is well worth the effort. If you are staying anywhere within striking distance of this hotel/restaurant please please please take the chance to find it and find out for yourself just how great this place is. I promise you will not be disappointed. The prices were approx Euros35 per person but we did not have a lot of alcohol.

I have a tradition that my favorite place is the the place I return to before going back home and the tradition remains. Stopped by here while walking around and exploring. It looked like a chill place I could read and have a coffee and it was just that. Emilie's has a nice outside (with awning) and a chill inside, with air conditioning. All the seating is very comfortable, but inside has soft seating, if that's your thing. WiFi is excellent and you've got some table games to choose from on a shelf also. The staff is exceptionally nice and speak magnificent English. The coffee is good, but it's the tasty treats that are incredible. I had a cookie, which was great, but their zucchini bread BLEW ME AWAY!!! If I go back to Canne, I think I'll end up living here. PS: Watch out for pigeons if you sit outside. They're as aggressive as my native NYC pigeons.

Many of them speak English fluently, but are very nice and patient with you if you practice speaking your French! The cafe also has a "set menu" where you can choose from a salad or bagel menu and combine it with a cookie or a drink for a relatively affordable price! This is very helpful for students on a budget. The portions sizes were large and could match up American sized meal standards! The place is also very cute and trendy for pictures or just hanging out! Ps the Nutella muffin is amazing!!
