This beautifull Victorian cemetery was saved by a charitable trust, Bristol City Council and lottery money (the owner had planned to build housing on the land). It has over 40 acres of land, some of which is kept in a natural state to help wildlife thrive. It is a working cemetery, and burials and scatterings still happen on a regular basis.
The cemetery has a cafe, two buildings that can be used for functions and a shop (where you can purchase firewood and charcoal made there, and Christmas trees in season and event tickets).
Various events are held there including historical tours, concerts, wildlife tours and various events for schools and children featuring history, science and just plain fun. They now are licensed for weddings.
No matter what time of year, it's a lovely place to wander around and learn about the local history. read more
