Really caring doctor filled a prescription for me before I even asked. But no follow up.

In my opinion, this is a worse than useless neurologist. In my experience, he does not know how to do a competent exam for stroke. He seems to believe it is common that people suddenly go blind and unable to walk from some imagined "anxiety" rather than likely a stroke. All evidence to the contrary was immediately dismissed by him. He is supposedly a trained neurologist. I understand from many trained medical professionals that ischemic stroke isn't an obscure and rare condition, but to Dr. Greenberg it was like the guy had never met anyone who's had a stroke. Despite several hours of interaction, Dr. Greenberg would never allow the possibility of a misdiagnosed stroke to be present, perhaps due to him being trained by the lady who allegedly misread mine. After Greenberg, I had to enlist yet a THIRD opinion from an apparently competent neurologist who determined stroke accurately from clinical symptoms within literally a 5 minute exam. Then the "third opinion" doc wisely had it confirmed by a neutral radiologist using the original MRI that UCSF/SFGH was apparently not competent enough to read properly based on results. In my opinion this is not a competent doctor and his failure to act appropriately has added to crippling a healthy man for life. A "second opinion" should never be used as an opportunity to further cover up for your mentor's failings to add to the patient's demise. read more

They never answer the phone! I literally have to drive to the office for an appointment and wait to be seen when I need a refill. But it's odd the office is completely filled with Russian speaking individuals that apparently have appointments so I don't know what to make of that? read more

Do do not go see Arnold Greenberg in SF. I had waited for an appointment for 2 months , when i showed for my appointment he was at the front desk and said they cancelled my appointment because they tried to call the day before and they could not reach me. I never got a call from his office and no VM. When i asked him what number did they call he had the correct phone number. So this Doctor lied to my face and said my phone must of been out of a zone. i asked him did you leave a VM he had no response. He was so unprofessional and treated me badly. If he does this to patients i would never want to see a doctor like, this that thinks h can just cancel appointments and lie to their face. He needs to retire when he can do this to patient. read more

I previously was Dr. A. Greenberg patient ( refered to him by James Greenberg.) Dr. A. Greenberg is an average doctors, nothing extra ordinary however long time in business , conviniently located , russian speaking , so I was returning to him multiple time over last 20 years. However my recent visit put me in the position where I would like to share my feedback about observation over the years as they are getting worse. Always been noticing the same issues related to scheduling appotment - when need it appoitment it takes long time to get could be few month; always waiting line even if nobody in the waiting area usually longer than 20 minutes. If its video appoitment the same thing - late start, which I find very disrespectful to other peoples time. Beside that fact doctor is very snobby , with BIG attitude , I also find him arrogant, rude, inconsiderate, and uncompassionate. Would I recommend him ? probably not however if you dont speek english and stuck with Russian , I could totally understand why people coming back to him. read more

I only saw him once. He arranged everything I needed. His staff called and checked on me. I'm glad I chose him.

I saw Dr. Greenberg for some painful tingling in my leg / foot that is likely related to the rare tumor in my knee. I suspected that there was likely some kind of nerve issue going on. In our appointment he was adamant that it was NOT some kind of nerve issue but he recommended that I see a podiatrist that he works closely with because the pain was in my foot. I saw the podiatrist who within 5 minutes told me that my symptoms were TEXTBOOK symptoms of nerve issues related to a herniated disk in my lower back. He recommend that I see a chiropractor which I have been doing and it's helped tremendously. While I eventually got the correct diagnosis, it scares me that it was the podiatrist that correctly identified the nerve issues and not Dr.Greenberg, the neurologist. Would not recommend. read more

Update: I previously saw Dr. Greenberg and really liked working with him. I reached out to him several more times in the past year since my headache specialist left the practice, and it takes months to get in to see someone new. Since I have chronic neurological issues, I need to be seeing someone, and I was left with no other neurologist. I already had a relationship with Dr. Greenberg, and he had said to reach out if I needed anything. So I reached out about 3 times in a span of a few months asking to be seen, for advice, and even for just references of doctors I could see, and he literally refused to help me. I don't know what his problem is. I went to see my new primary care doctor and asked for a referral to a new neurologist, and she was going to refer me to him! I don't know why he is Sutter and UCSF's only recommended doctor in the field. So now I am in chronic pain without a plan, and Dr. Greenberg basically "dumped" me. I've never been treated this way by a doctor, and I quite honestly don't see the incentive for him to refuse to treat me. He was the one who helped me in the beginning, and not a lot has changed since then. Really questionable ethics. read more

I was referred to Dr. Greenberg by an incompetent doctor from the One Medical Group at 110 Sutter st. I was hoping that getting away from this incompetent doctor would mean I'd finally receive real treatment but unfortunately that was not the case. Here's my story: On July 1st 2009 I experienced my first migraine. I proceeded to have regular migraines about once or twice a month, sometimes less, from there on out. All of the migraines could be stopped by abortive medication so it was never a big deal. In mid February of 2011 I experienced a headache that didn't go away until early May of that year. During this time I sought treatment but didn't get much because whenever I tried to schedule an appointment, Dr Singh at One Medical or Dr Greenberg put my appointments about 2, 3, or 4 weeks out from the date I called. This meant that I had to go 2 weeks to a month between appointments while my condition was worsening severely in a much shorter amount of time. I finally got into see Dr Greenberg and he put me on Amitriptyline. While this drug is an antidepressant this prescription made sense because migraines can be linked to depression and the chemicals that cause depression. The drug worked for a week and then made me feel absolutely miserable. So miserable that I could barely go to work or leave my apartment. Because my body had been under the stress of a constant headache with migraines interspersed for over 2 months, it was starting to give up. I began to develop anxiety symptoms and an irregular heartbeat. These symptoms along with the headache and migraines were making it so that I could barely even think, let alone work or have a social life. One morning things got so bad I checked myself into the emergency room at a local hospital. After the ER visit I tried to get back into see Dr Greenberg but I really had to fight to get an appointment. After a few phone calls I was able to get back in and get reassessed. This is where the ridiculousness really steps up to another level. Even though my condition was worsening severely and keeping me from working or even living, Dr Greenberg acted as if my condition was normal. His diagnosis? Depression and anxiety. Now I'll admit that I'm not the happiest person in the world but I by no means have depression and I have never had anxiety problems before in my life. Despite this, Dr Greenberg said that I should take an anti-anxiety medication called Cymbalta and go see a shrink. (The Cymbalta medication started giving me regular panic attacks within 12 hrs of taking it.) He said doing these two things would make me better in about a month. Let me just stop and say WHAT. THE. FUCK. You'd have to be a rock to not understand that this diagnosis was completely incorrect. During my last appointment with Dr Greenberg I tried to explain how I didn't think his assessment was correct and he became angry with me. ANGRY! Now that right there is the sign of a bad doctor. If you can't be confident about having an open conversation with your doctor without feeling pressured or bad about what you say, it's time to leave. And that's what I did. While Dr Greenberg and his receptionist did treat me with some respect, I would never recommend him to anyone. Ever. Since seeing him I have spent some time on the Mayo Clinic website as well as on Amazon buying a couple books about migraines. These two resources have taught me more about what I need to know than any of the doctors I've seen to date have told me. I'd highly recommend doing research about your condition before seeking treatment. It will help you greatly when talking with your doctor. For reference, here's the best book on migraines I've found so far: http://amzn.to/ilK3A4 And here's a link to the Mayo Clinic section on Migraines: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/migraine-headache/DS00120 P.S.- I'm now taking an anti-seizure medication called Lyrica which has helped a bunch. While I'm not completely better, the headache has gone away and I haven't had a migraine since switching to the doctor who prescribed the Lyrica and starting massage therapy. It's very possible that I have a heart or neurological condition that's causing my illness but I still have to do more tests to figure that out. Once I do figure this stuff out I am very confident that my anxiety and other symptoms will disappear. read more

Worst than the DMV - avoid After waiting 4 weeks I arrived early for my first appointment. Doreen (the assistant) informed me the first appointment is usually longer than 20 minutes and to prepare for being there for 45-50 minutes. She gave me a form to fill out asking for basic information (name, DOB, etc). Arnold Greenberg beckoned us into his office after a 20-minute wait in the waiting room, before another elderly couple (super cute) who had been waiting 40+ minutes. We sat there for 30 minutes (I timed it) while he asked for basic information (the same as I entered earlier on the form), typing with one finger, into his computer system. His manner and communication was cold and minimal, the kind of bedside-manner you'd expect from a parking lot attendant. After 30 minutes, he encountered an error in his computer system; which BTW he says is for 'the government'. He called the tech support line and tried to diagnose the issue with the tech on speaker phone. A while later Doreen came in while he was put on hold to wait for his support ticket. This entire time we're sitting there in near silence. I quietly told Arnold Greenberg that I need to leave in 10 minutes to get to work. He immediately stood up and explained this just isn't working out and made a jamming/meshing motion with his hands. When I asked him to clarify he explained some people just aren't patient and that these appointments can take hours. He blamed the computer system, again. I was expecting Ashton Kutcher to walk in at any moment. I thought about the elderly couple waiting outside and how inappropriate it was to make the four of us waste our time while he spends the office visit typing basic information into a computer. This is not what we pay doctors to do. I became frustrated and asked why he doesn't start reading my chart/history and perhaps consider taking written notes until his system is working again. He became angry and defensive. I asked Doreen to please refund my co-pay and we left after 50 minutes. read more

Arnold Greenberg is like a Russian Poirot. He was fastidiously dressed and has this tremendous focus that I was careful not to interrupt until he was ready for additional information. "Oh, that is extremely important to know!" he said and would type like mad. Then, pause and reflect. Cute! So, very thorough history-taking, great focus, complete physical exam and a sweet, old world formality. No waxed moustache, though. read more

My doctor gave me a referral to him. I left a message. His office did called back and told me an appointment day, since I was driving I asked if they either can text me back or email me with the time. The person did not call back and I left three messages to call back. Well, they finally called me back. The person was so obnoxious and claims that i called back and cancelled my appointment. She also claim that she sent me an email confirming the time. Both statement were a blatant lied. I never cancel my appointment nor received any email from Dr. Greenberg's office. She was definitely covering up on her lying. Dr. Greenberg, if you are reading this, you should know that patients go to a particular doctor for trust. You staff acting in this manner and outright lie does not represent you well. I finally told her that take my name off the list I will find another provider that hopefully I can trust. If you private mail or respond to me I will give you my direct contact information. Sorry to post this review, I just want you and others to know what just happened today. I am sure from her tone that this is not the first cover up this gal is doing. Remember, patient seeks out a doctor for the trust and knowledge. Thank god that there are more than one neurologist . She just called back and claim that i cancelled cause i was going out of town. Another total lie. I hope that you realize most of us are still in a SIP aka lockdown. I have been here in town for the last year and don't intend to travel until this pandemic is over. People be aware of the staff at this office. I do not think they know which direction is up or down. Maybe Dr. Greenberg needs to examine his staff or "clean house" and find staff that will represent him adequately. I am sure he is a very capable neurologist but certain members of your staff must have been from or escapee of the insanity ward. read more

I have been to no less than 6 "top-notch" neurologists in SF and NYC. Dr. Greenberg is far and away the best you could ever find. He thinks for himself and out of the box. Dr. Arnold Greenberg is one of the most patient doctors I've ever seen. He gave me all the time I needed to fully explain my problem. Though he couldn't offer a diagnosis or prognosis he was optimistic I would eventually find relief. One thing he did I've never seen before. He asked me a question that I had to take a moment to think about. During the pause in conversation, he let out a big yawn, not loud, but big. For the next 5 minutes he seemed to yawn constantly, one after the other. I joked, "pretty boring stuff, huh?" but I don't think he understood or heard me. Just an interesting human phenomenon, so don't let the "yawn story" dissuade you from seeing him. I highly recommend Dr. Greenberg. I only had to wait about a week for an appointment whereas UCSF Neurology has a 6-week wait. read more

PATIENTS BEWARE!!!! Booked referred and confirmed appointment with the doctor and it was scheduled 3 months out. Walked in and was showed ID and Insurance and was turned down within 20 seconds. Said I would have to pay out of pocket and visit would cost almost $200. The test they need to conduct would be extremely expensive and would be an additional expense out of pocket. This information SHOULD have been communicated at the time of appointment booking if it could be determined within seconds of looking at my insurance card. The staff was very unhelpful and would not recommend anyone going here unless you do your own due diligence and want to feel like just a number to extract the most amount of money from. The secretary's respose was that she didn't booked the appointment. Passing the buck and no accountability. ALL RED FLAGS FOR A MEDICAL PROVIDER. Dr. Greenberg is an excellent Dr. He actually listens to the various issues you have going on. He then will conduct an actual examination. Yes, touching the parts of your body that are causing you pain, rather than sitting in a desk and making assumptions without having a clue. He is diligent and really cares about making a difference in a patients life. If he thinks someone else can help, he will make a referral. He is respectable, kind, caring but, he is also very honest and will be upfront with you about what you need to do to take care of yourself. So if you need to lose weight he will tell you or if he thinks you need to change your diet, he will tell you. I would prefer a doctor to be straightforward and honest with me and be invested in my health than a Doctor Who could care less about what's going on and just is looking through me instead of working with me. Dr Greenberg, is the kind of Doctor who will work with you to do the best he can for you. And his office staff, Doreen, is a sweetheart.I would highly recommend him. read more

I was referred to Dr. Greenburg by my doctor and was so incredibly disappointed by his level of knowledge and lack of care. Here's my story: I have been suffering from migraines since I was 15, but with one Maxalt it would always go away. Within the last couple months Maxalt has stopped working and my migraines have become more frequent and painful. I went to see my primary physician first to get some additional medication hoping that would work. My doctor told me to try the new medication and booked me an appointment with Dr. Greenburg. I had to wait two weeks which was very difficult since the new medication wasn't working either and the migraines were still happening. The appointment itself with Dr. Greenburg was very odd. He barely asked me anything about my situation/lifestyle to find out more about what may have triggered or be making my migraines worse. He would barely let me speak if it wasn't in direct response to his question. At the end of the appointment (which was mostly just him typing on his computer) he said that he would prescribe me with Naproxin. He told me that I could take 1 Naproxin a week and nothing else (no ibuprofen, etc.). He said that if it didn't work to just "fight through the pain". I was a little bit in shock by his response but thought I would give him the benefit of a doubt and he did give me some new stuff to try. Well the appointment was on a Friday and I got yet another migraine on Sunday. I took one of the Naproxin and a few hours later the pain was worse. I looked up what exactly is in Naproxin and it is simple a higher dosage per pill than over the counter Aleve. Now I was really in shock and very upset. If I have any advice from my experience it is steer clear of this doctor. There are plenty of other ones who are more knowledgeable and more caring than Dr. Greenburg. I was actually able to sneak in an appointment that next Monday with another neurologist in the same building that was amazing. She was caring and extremely knowledgeable. read more

This doctor is a sweetheart. I was referred to him from Dr. Rastani, who is one of my favorite doctors. I was having some issues that seemed like a possible migraine. Dr. Greenberg saw me within one week, his receptionist was very nice, and he saw me promptly. He took a lot of time with me, was very patient, and a good listener. He also called me back quickly with some test results. To top it off he told me that he was happy to have me as a patient and I was a nice person. He was very sweet! I felt that he was one of those few doctors who made you feel that he was happy to have your business, rather than the all too common doctors who make you feel like they are doing you a favor while you are paying them $400 to see you for 10 minutes. He is kind of an old school doctor In that way. There is also a really cute old fashioned pharmacy in the lobby that is worth checking out to buy some M&Ms. read more

I was referred to Dr. Greenberg after having symptoms of MS, and having a clean MR. I assumed my PCP referred me to Dr. Greenberg because he had the shortest wait to get in (btw never a good sign). I waited 45 minutes for him to finish with another client, talk with a pharmaceutical rep, and then chit chat with his brother (a Dr. next door). When I did see him, he either nodded or said "Yah, yah, yah" to all my symptoms, and said I need to go get an MRI. He had not looked at any of my blood work results, the MRI, or referring doctors notes. So I sat and waiting while he reviewed these. Ironically he never asked the most important questions a doctor should ask, and then assumed the answers when he gave me a diagnosis. I had to go back for a nerve conduction study (which he described as a painless procedure), and actually ended up with bruises on my arms after-wards from where he ground the electrodes into my skin. I'm not overweight, so it was not as if he had to get them through layers of fat, and the whole procedure was extremely painful. I guess as a distraction during the study, he tried to strike up conversation about travel, and I mentioned that I was heading to Jamaica for my honeymoon. At which he said, "Why would a white woman like you want to go there? They are like the people from Haiti, they hate life and Americans." Not that it matter how he got that racist opinion, I asked anyway. And he has never visited, nor has anyone he knows visited those two countries. So if you don't mind a racist doctor with no bedside manners, feel free to book an appointment. read more

This doctor deserves zero stars. Avoid him at all costs. He does not follow through and misdiagnoses his patients. Stay far away!

I've seen some of the reviews on here and was kind of surprised. Dr. Greenberg was very thorough and patient and helped me way more than the couple of other neurologists that I visited. He took the time to ask me questions and recommend physical therapy as well as a consult for a neuromuscular doc. I am way better than I was a couple of weeks ago. I feel that people sometimes expect a doctor's visit to be like they're eating at a restaurant or something. The expectation of customer service is kind of ridiculous. They're doctors. They're dealing with your health/life. They're not bringing you a burger. Dr. Greenberg has a nice beside manner and was knowledgeable and compassionate. Dr. Greenberg is the finest old-fashioned physician (not to mention a diplomate in neurology) that I can think of. He started treating me when I had what was, for me, an "unexpected" (good blood pressure, body fat, diet, and overall health) "major" stroke at age 50. For twelve years afterwards, he has been there to give me hope that someday my full intelligence would be restored. As for my physical condition, I have no disability except for a hopefully temporary loss of driving privileges due to seizures that began nine years post-stroke. When he ordered an MRI to rule out aneurism as their cause, I didn't ask why I was having an MRI. You see, my husband and I implicitly trust Dr. Greenberg's acumen. I recommend that anyone with a neurological concern try to get on the new-patient list maintained by his caring and organized assistant, Doreen. read more
