Instead of telling me right off the bat that she doesn't take internet prospects, she began the conversation of wanting to know my situation. In the duration of telling her, she became awkward in telling me how surprised she was that I understood what an EA vs CPA is and what a statutory employee is. She had to ask, "why do you want an EA instead of a CPA," and "what is statutory?" She said she never had clients that knew what these were. So after knowing my situation and giving me a financial pop quiz, then she tells me that she's had a couple of people call her from the Internet and that she doesn't accept these types of clients. Then why the hell ask the prospect vetting questions if you knew from the beginning they're not an acceptable source? She also expressed her dismay with the IRS displaying all of the Enrolled Agents' contact information on their website. I thought this was unprofessional as it seemed like such an inconvenience for her. She's in the wrong field if she thinks she can hide from such a public type of license. Based on my interaction with this owner and EA, she obviously is complacent and on the other side of the digital divide. Her surprise to me finding her electronically and my knowledge of finance apparently is not what she's used to. This tells me the simple clientele she has as well as her practice limitations. If you do call her to take your business, make sure you sound financially ignorant and don't say Internet. She may feel more secure at that point. I do not like sharing my financial situation to just anyone, therefore I did not appreciate this person wasting my time and divulging sensitive information when it could have been avoided altogether. In the end, she did me a great favor, hence the 1 star. After hanging up the phone, 3 other EA's called me back all welcoming my business and verifying my situation is a breeze. I'm so glad not all the EA's in this new area are as weird as she. They also debunked her explanation as to why EA's don't call new prospects back. She was certainly right about one thing though, the problem definitely lies with her.
