I've give this store more chances than I should, the staff seem to follow you around, I was asked by the same person if they could help me every time I went to a new area. None of them smile or seem nice in general , a very "uppity" air that is unpleasant. Sure they have the products but honestly you can get any of those things now on line and for cheaper. read more

I was expecting to see cool military surplus items by the name - it's not that. There were a few people buying things at the register. This just isn't my kind of store. It smelled a funky when I walked in. The carpet on the floor was rolling up. It reminded me more of a booth at a flea market than a downtown shop. I bought a pair of CAROLINA brand boots here on Monday, October 7th. The salesman's name was Francis. Francis, to put it mildly is not a people person. I tried on 3 pair of boots. With each pair, The INSTANT I slid my foot in, he said "How does it feel?" My reaction was: 'hey bub. Let me walk down the aisle to try them out first' Francis was pushy and brusque and is probably highly skilled at chasing customers away. They have prominent signs on the counter at the register saying "no refunds. Exchange only" I went back on Thursday Oct. 10th to exchange them as the CAROLINA boots that Francis recommended were putting too much pressure on the knuckle of my big toe. A much nicer sales rep named Tristan helped me, but Francis butted in to ask what the problem was with my prior purchase. I suppressed my irritation at him and told him what I had already told 2 other staff members. I ended up with a pair of Carhartt shoes ($55 on Amazon) which Tristan wrongly described as hiking shoes. They were clearly a lower value item but when I went to settle up, I discovered they were AMAZINGLY priced exactly the same as MY original purchase of $129.95 Learn from my mistake. We took our first trip to the Army Navy store in Lexington NC today to find new carhartt jeans for my husband. What a great shopping experience! The store itself inside is old and a little worn, bit it's packed with a great selection of jeans, shirts, vests, shoes, socks, etc for men and women at great prices. There is an awesome Carhartt selection there. We were approached right away by this really friendly young man named Cameron. He was extremely helpful the entire time we were there. He stayed with us, bringing different sizes and different cuts of jeans until we found the perfect fits. Cameron made great suggestions and was very patient with us as my husband tried on multiple pairs of jeans. We bought 5 pair! What a great find. We we definitely be going back. Contrary to the name of the place, this is NOT a mil spec surplus store. Pretty much just a generic mom & pop utility clothing store ....only Mom wasn't there (or may not even exist) and Pop is an obnoxious prick. He apparently thinks everyone is trying to rob him....he follows people around watching every small move they make. Better than average inventory compleat with oddball sizes. They do carry Carharts and Dickies. Pricing is about average. You'll not find any deals here. Best part about the place is that, when you tire of the owners' behaviour (which doesn't take long at all)...there are lots of good BBQ joints in the area to check out. read more

We went to the Old Navy Store in Lexington NC to look around and see what they had . As soon as I went into the store the lady at the front asked what do you want what can we help you with . We told her we were just looking, she said well let me know what you're looking for and we'll help you. Again I said we are just looking for now. I went to the ladies and my person I was with went to the men's he was followed around the men's department by Franky the owher like he was going to still something. Let me say we have been in the store and bought thing before but we will not return again very poor sales techniques. I went inside looking for "Army-Navy " merchandise... the fella who id'd himself as the owner asked what I was looking for... I told him the army-navy stuff... whereupon he launched into an extensive tirade how the army-navy business ended after the Korean war and that those businesses pretty much closed 40 years... I said something like, "did I miss something, didn't I see an "army-navy " sign outside? " he said something like "yeah but we don't sell it since I bought it 40 years ago"... he then proceeded to insult me with my desire to shop for surplus items so I asked him if he had learned anything about customer service in his 40 years and that perhaps he should not make his potential customers feel unwelcome... at this his son told me to leave... as a fella who spent 40 years in one form of customer service, I can truthfully say this was quite possibly my worst potential shopping experiences of my life... in closing, shop here at your own peril! read more

Been to this store multiple times. Its the only place I know of that gives customer service. I have been to other stores where you have to search and find on your own. Went in over the weekend and got what I was looking for. I got the service I wanted. There was eyes looking and when I needed a answer I got the service. I was not uncomfortable with eyes on me because I was not hiding nothing. It just let me know service help is waiting if needed. I went in store and informed clerk what I wanted. Clerk went to product and laid out what I wanted to see. I shop where service is given.A extra dollar not a issue when service and availability is present. I will be back. read more

Same experience, not a surplus store at all. The ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. You MIGHT find an occasional sale. We each did a little shopping around; in comparing notes after leaving the store, we had both been watched closely. I myself was looking at a ladies blouse and felt eyes on me, to look up and find that I was being stared at by store staff. Too creepy for us, we will not be going back. read more

Saw this place on Spectrum News. My son and I went to check it out. Not a Army Navy Surplus store at all - just civilian & construction clothing. They must have shoplifting since one idiot came creeping around us suspiciously. I'm looking at a jacket and I take a step back and realize someone is moving up on me quickly. I say excuse me and he made a really horrible face at me and said nothing - like I had just ruined his day. He works there. He just kept walking. I have been a manager in retail for MANY years and have had many a customer step back while looking at merchandise. I always say excuse me to them and if they apologize to me I tell them it is okay and I am good at dancing around people as I smile and let them know it's all okay. Customers are important! This place, someone looking at merchandise is a burden. My son did ask if they had tactical clothing and was told about the small area that carries size 4x pants for what looked to be paramedics pants, but the man that told him this seemed that it irritated him for someone to ask such a question. The women that work there are nice but after almost being mowed down by the ass that works there and not even apologized too, I declined to purchase the jacket I was looking at. We left there feeling we were judge for being not of the normal small population of Lexington NC. We will not come back. Word of mouth goes a long way and can go a long way against you too. read more

This is an excellent store with the best customer service. I recently had a pair of defective Nunn Bush shoes where the sole was not maintaining its integrity. I returned the shoes to the store and without hesitation was able to exchange the shoes for a different pair and was refunded the difference. This was done immediately and without request. The owner has the line of clothes we need here in the city and country. Clothes you can work in and go out in for a causal night. The selection is great and there are end of seasons sales in just about every department. The owners are great to talk to and can tell you the history behind the name. The selection is diverse, the prices are competitive and the store is loaded with good deals. I highly recommend this store. its worth the time and effort. DRF read more
