My family has been connected to Villatoro Bushido Martial Arts for years. My oldest, who is now 18,…read moretrained here when he was younger, and the impact it had on him stayed with us. Recently, I found myself bringing my 9‑year‑old -- and I'm so grateful we did. My son never really found his place in sports. We tried football, soccer, baseball -- nothing clicked. But the moment he stepped into this studio, something changed. He found comfort, confidence, and a sense of belonging that we hadn't seen before. I truly believe it's because of the teaching approach here. The senseis don't just teach martial arts and self‑defense. They teach discipline, respect, focus, and responsibility. They meet each child where they are and bring out the best in them. You can feel the patience, the structure, and the genuine care they put into every class. Watching my son grow here -- not just in skill, but in character -- has been incredible. Villatoro Bushido MA is more than a martial arts studio. It's a community, a support system, and a place where kids learn to believe in themselves. Highly recommended for any parent looking for a positive, empowering environment for their child.

I recently joined their Muay Thai classes, and I'm so glad I did. It's very beginner-friendly and welcoming, even if you've never done anything like this before. They also offer adult kickboxing classes, which are a great way to stay active and learn new skills. Highly recommend 10/10 experience!

I enrolled my son at Guerreros Judo in the La Puente/City of Industry area almost a year ago, but…read moreour family's history with the club goes back many years. We live in Chino Hills, so it's definitely a bit of a drive for us, but after everything I had already seen with our family and the club over the years, I felt it was worth making the trip. One of the biggest reasons I decided to give Guerreros a try was because I had already seen firsthand what the club had done for other members of our family. My cousin's kids trained here for years and became very successful in judo. My niece competed at a very high level and even had the amazing opportunity to travel to Peru and compete representing the USA. What's super cool is that she now comes back and volunteers some of her time helping teach the younger kids. To me, that says a lot about the kind of community Guerreros has built. My sister's kids also joined about six years ago, so I've had a chance to watch them grow up in the sport. Her oldest has progressed to the point where she has refereed matches herself, which is awesome to see. I've also watched judo bring out the competitive side of another one of her kids, and I've seen her son mature and change for the better through the sport as well. So before my son ever stepped onto the mat, I had already been watching this club for years. I saw what it did for my nieces and nephews, and that's a big reason I felt comfortable bringing my own son here. Now that my son has been here for almost a year, it's been really cool getting to watch him start his own journey. He's learning the fundamentals, getting more comfortable on the mat, and starting to understand that getting better at something takes practice, listening, and effort. Another thing I like about Guerreros is the community and the mix of senseis. They all have different personalities and teaching styles, which I actually think is a good thing. Some are naturally more encouraging, some really push the kids and expect more out of them, some are very technical, and some are especially good at slowing things down and connecting with the students. But they all care about teaching judo and helping the kids improve. As a parent, I also feel comfortable with my son being there and with the way the senseis work with the kids. And your child doesn't have to have any judo experience or be trying to become a high-level competitor to benefit from being here. Some kids are very competitive and want to take the sport as far as they can, while others are simply learning, getting exercise, building confidence, and enjoying being part of the club. There seems to be a place for both. For me, it's also bigger than just learning how to throw someone or win a match. The kids are learning how to listen, how to compete, how to deal with getting something wrong, how to handle adversity, and how to keep working at it until they get better. I've seen that kind of growth happen with several kids in our own family. That's really what makes Guerreros special to me. I've had the advantage of watching the club for years before becoming a parent here myself, and now I'm glad my son is getting the same opportunity. If you're thinking about judo for your child, I would definitely say give Guerreros a try. Let them experience a class, and see what you think. After watching so many kids in our family grow through this club, I'm really happy my son is now getting to be part of it too.

I took the Kailukuan course in November and the class was an intensive mind, body, spirit,…read moreaggregated syllabus. The course is built on a foundational set of movements used in the didya mudgarwa, didya kabarwanan, and ablon. When I signed up for the course, I was looking for content to connect me with my Filipina roots... to the indigenous culture. This course offered me that in unexpected ways. I felt like I released conditioned practices through the learned movements and filled the void with native Filipino practices. This class reset my mind and body. It reset my operating system at its core. After the first week of bending and awakening my muscles, I found myself more aware of the small movements and how they supported my form. I felt more connected to the power of my breath. By the end of the course, I was shedding programs and rebuilding my foundations.

After trying almost everything for my shoulder, I traveled from the Bay Area to have a private…read moreAblon/Hilot Manual Medicine session with Manusuro Virgil Apostol. He's one of only two people I know in California who teaches practices martial arts and healing. And I've searched long and hard. It was unlike any session I've experienced before. And I've seen functional, regenerative, and integrative doctors, osteopaths, physical therapists, chiropractors, Traditional Chinese and Tibetan medicine doctors, and bodyworkers. He spent a lot of time conducting a very thorough intake of my body, mind, and spirit, including food and my interactions with ancestors in my dreams. Then he intuitively worked on my body in positions I've never been in. He patiently worked on one part of my body until it released. At the end, he shared stretches I hadn't learned before. He has a fun sense of humor and was very generous with his time and knowledgeable in modalities from other cultures. I also appreciate that he teaches live online for people from out of town, helps students take time to master basics before learning more advanced moves, requires student healers to learn martial arts, and thoughtfully matches clients to student ablon practitioners. If you'll receive ablon on a massage table, remember to bring your own sheets . If you don't see that reminder in their emails, ask. (I'm not Filipino and I was warmly welcomed.)
