Good gym and usually good food bank to help those in need but if you get there a little after 8 with your service member and have small kids just leave . There are too many rules here and every time I come there is a new rule. The newest rule was I can no longer sit on the pool deck while my family swims. I swam for 30 minutes and sat out so they could finish swimming. Now, I can no longer sit and wait. February 22 is when our membership expires. Peace out YMCA. You are horrible. read more

Walked in and inquired about membership and to be shown around the facility. She told me to take a seat and the guy will be back. I sat there for over 30 minutes waiting for someone to come and get me to show me around and no one ever came. Meanwhile, some guy walked a woman and her child around the facility. I shouldn't have to remind or BEG the front desk to join. And after seeing other recent reviews, as a military member, I'm not sure if I should even attempt to come back. read more

The front desk ladies are rude. I was lucky and was help from a nice young lady my first time. The second time was rude and short like she was too busy to help me. I am disappointed with the staff for sports. I try to sign my son up filled all paper work out. Was told he had a spot and that I could call back and pay over phone. I left more than 3 messages to try and make payment. Called the next day left more than 3 detail message. I figure wait until they call you back three days after the two day I kept call all day. Still nothing. I would have rather someone call me back and say we're sorry but no more spots. It that easy. Then not call back at all and completely dismiss it. Very rude most the staff. I absolutely love the gym, the staff is over all friendly and helpful. The gym upstairs is being cleaned at all times and the child care seems very friendly every time I've come. The only thing I would say needs a little improvement is the kitchen area. It closes 40 minutes early from the sign after waiting for service for 20 mins. This has happened a few times, the employee in the kitchen constantly comes off as anyone being a bother and hindering the overall experience of the kitchen aspect of the gym. But overall there is great programs and equipment. read more

Great services! I used the Operation Kid Comfort Program in preparation for an upcoming deployment. They made my 2yr old daughter a great quilt with pictures. You can tell it was made with a lot of care and it turned out great! The ladies were so welcoming and truly were making it out of love for families. All they wanted was hugs, smiles, and thank yous! What a discouraging disappointment we had at the HH facility today!!! We drove all the way from Temple and back but the return trip my 6 year old granddaughter was sobbing because we were denied entry to the pool. I am visiting from out of state to care for her over her spring break. My husband is retired military (retired from then Ft Hood in 2004) but we now live in Kentucky. We have a current ymca membership with our local YMCA. What I was told today was extremely frustrating. Prior to my trip, I messaged your facility through your website. I have yet to receive a response. I scoured your website and Facebook sites looking for information telling me that my current membership would not be valid at your facility, but I found nothing. At your facility, I was told your "Armed Services" YMCA has no association with the "YMCA". The young women asked if we were just wanting to use the pool during open swim, I replied yes. She said we could pay a day use fee. She then asked if I was Mom, to which I responded no - I'm her Grandma and am caring for her over Spring Break. She then tells me I cannot take her in without a notorized consent from her parents that has been approved by the site director. When I asked about what the site director hours are so I can bring the letter, she tells me the approval take 3-5 DAYS. These are ridiculous expectations and quite exclusionary. I'm am so very disappointed in our experience today. What a shame. After coming home I again I scoured your website and Facebook page and see nowhere a non-affiliation statement OR a requirement for a notorized approval requirement for a grandparent to bring a grandchild. I will add, that, prior to moving to Kentucky I was an employed caregiver who was able to take my charges to an Austin area YMCA without a notorized approval from the parents or a membership. One star for how sweet and welcoming the tumbling coach was with my shy kid. Attended a little over a year of one day a week tumbling classes and every day I had to go come here I had extreme anxiety. You never knew what was going to get you reprimanded, could you walk up the stairs on this day or was staff having a bad day and ready to let you have it? Could you be excited to see your kid after class while getting them ready to leave or was staff going to yell at the adults to "control their children"? Asking any staff members a question felt like an intrusion on their personal time. Do you need help finding anything? Don't bother asking the front desk they're busy socializing and being rude to everyone. How about ordering from their cafe? Be ready to catch your food as they seemingly toss it at you after it's been sitting there because they can't be bothered to tell you it's ready. I couldn't bring myself to ever pay for a membership when every visit here is horrible. The pantry customers were treated even worse. Absolutely do not recommend this place if you don't have to go. read more

DO NOT SIGN YOUR CHILD UP FOR AFTER SCHOOL WITH YMCA . They have responsibility for peoples kids and simply leave your child hanging at any point for any reason . There is NEVER any communication ever , no emails about days off school , nothing ever . I been a member since about 10 years and they went through numerous supervisors. A lot of very bad ones. The only good one left to Hollywood to become an actor. And each one had their own rules which changed daily. Now the newest rule for swimlessions they rope of half ot the big pool and close the therapy pool, regardless how many swim lessons they have. They have people waiting to get in the pool and no one cares. At one time they made people walk around the pool to get in the water. I guess they didn't want them in front of the office window. Now the latest rules is about the therapy pool, you cannot join in the class even if it is under 12 person if you are late. This place has rules like any other gym that are important for obvious reason, however, these rules are not enforced equally. I've seen parents be told kids can't be upstairs until age 9. I've seen kids below 9 allowed and also kids in strollers which is against the rules. I've seen people video recording their sets and get kicked out while others record at the same time and nothing is said. One employee upstairs comes at people aggressively and disrespectful to the situation, all staff should represent this business as a professional. The Staff definitely has their favorites and enforces the rules and standards accordingly. It's against the rules to use more than one thing at a time and people are corrected for this. Then again, some people do what they want, and no corrections with 7 sets of dumbbells and barbells, which is also a safety issue and frankly a disgusting gym etiquette issue. Do I agree with some of these things? No, but if you're going to enforce things, enforce them equally and professionally, no matter who you are. read more

This is basically not based off the entire YMCA because they actually do have some awesome employees. With that being said their before and after school program is going straight down the tubes. At least the one at Mountain View elementary anyway. There is some new lady there now and she doesn't seem to have children because she seems to think that a bunch of kids under the age of 10 or 11 are gonna just sit there and do homework or something. I was very disappointed that I joined the YMCA today, (06/26/2021) at Harker Heights on Mountain Lion. Andrew went to the parent's night out, the 9 and 10-year olds class, which he had a great time. BUT...we have a bully in the class that threw a water bottle, not once, but twice and hit him in the face and head, also slapped him and called him names. Andrew cried of course, "Yes, Nina, it hurt." The 10 year was told to keep his hands to himself repeatedly, and Andrew was told," he would be alright." Well, I guess this child doesn't listen. I don't think the staff handled it correctly. These bullies shouldn't be allowed to participate around other kids. I didn't send my child there to be hurt. This child must be a well-known bully at the Y, for the staff to continue to let this happen. I will call the YMCA Monday.... read more

Place is very clean and they make an effort to fix what is broken fast . I use the pool a lot and the lifeguards are wonderful. Instructors are great and friendly. Horrible hours that make it not worth a membership. Not open until 1200pm on Sunday.. really? Previously was 1000am and I thought that was bad. Not much that a basic home gym doesn't have, as far a weight equipment goes. Once you have 7-8 people on the weight equipment, you are waiting for something useful. Lots of treadmills not used, but I'd rather run outside. It's Texas and generally decent weather. read more

I worked at a YMCA in TN for years. I've always appreciated their mission and understand that when you're working for or working out at a non-profit, things will definitely not always go as they should. Staff is paid very poorly, but they love working there because of the mission. Keeping that in mind, these folks are some of the best I've ever interacted with. My son and daughter have built bonds with their daycare teacher and their after school lead. We do all the things Y. Soccer, kids night out, family Friday, after school... use the gym and child watch. The facility is VERY clean. Equipment is pretty decent and in pretty decent shape again given it's a non profit. Their programs aren't always run perfectly smoothly, but nowhere does. I've worked out at chain gyms for 25 years... not ONE of them has the great staff that you'll find at the Y. Sure, there may be more smith machines or bumper plates or Olympic platforms... but if you want a clean gym with what you need to work out and great staff... great child care folks and programs (again they don't always run perfectly), sign up. The value for your money is more than worth some hiccups along the way. If you're a family and don't have a membership here, you're missing out. 1 free Friday a month for child care? $15 per kid for 5 hours at kids night out? Free sports for members, cooking and swimming classes at more than affordable prices... I could go on. HUGE shout out to the lovely front desk ladies, and especially Mr. Tan in child watch / after school. Talk about above and beyond. read more

Great pool, which is what initially drew me to the facility but water is too cold for me to swim laps. Upstairs workout environment is awesome, but would appreciate it more if people would be more mindful of us who use the walk/run track as our main exercise, rhythm is often disrupted by teens or others standing and blocking the track. The build is 5 star, the staff is good, and the childcare is great. Yet they seem to be missing a few of the simpler things. No real area to stretch in before you work out. Its now used as a class area and an area for free weights. Also, no towel service drops this down to just ok. For the money, I would like an area to stretch in and I have never been a member of a YMCA that didn't' offer towels for the gym. read more

Awesome facility. Don't love that the lifeguards are inconsistent and sometimes appear to enjoy power tripping, but that happens in most places where someone gets a little power. They have an app so you can keep up with the ever changing class and pool hours. read more

Not worth the membership. Hours constantly change and it seems nothing is ever open to use. One day the pool was closed from 5-8 next time we went it was closed till 845. And opened for 45 minutes till 945. Also my 12 year old was not allowed to play pool in the youth room around 530 because of a camp group. If you're looking for a family friendly place to take kids swimming or you're a man with strength training goals, this isn't the place for you.This facility, while new and clean, is really designed for retirees and stay at home moms. During our tour of the facility, the staff forgot to mention the pool is closed for open swim while they are giving swim lessons, which is the large majority of every day. This is not a ASYMCA. This is a KISD-SETON HOSPITAL-YMCA. Contracts and large amounts of money $$$ from KISD and SETON take preference over the 4,628 ASYMCA members which equals over 16,000 individuals using this facility. Both pools are controlled by KISD & SETON. All 10 laps in the lap pool are closed down to YMCA members every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6:30am to 8:30 am and any other times the KISD swim team takes over. Warm therapy pool is closed down to members when they have 2 or 3 people doing therapy. I've been a member of YMCA's most of my life. Never have I seen a YMCA close off the entire pools to members. During these times there should always be a minimum of 3 lanes open for YMCA members. Clearly large amounts of money take preference over monthly or yearly paying members. In reference to the closing of the YMCA for the entire day (March 23, 2019) to members is completely ridiculous. A welcome home party for the military should be held on Fort Hood. They hold plenty of welcome home ceremonies there all the time. Why should due paying members be expected to not use our facility we pay dues for? This most be another money making event for the YMCA? I've been a member since this YMCA opened and it's never been closed for members besides the Christmas holidays. read more

This place needs to get it together. My son is 12 and has been upstairs with me working out about four times I was told when I register that as long as he's upstairs with me he can go. Today I was told he needed a class and that he couldn't go upstairs until he was 13, I asked do I have to pay for this class and of course they said yes. A class to show him how to use the machines, DUH that's why I'm upstairs with him. This place has been inconsistent with the information and before someone tells me that I should read the manual maybe some of their employees should read it as well. The facility is fairly new, less than 2 years, but things are already starting to break and they're not repairing them, so there's holes in the walls in bathrooms and hanging hooks on the walls and stuff. It's still not a bad place, except for the staff, especially a guy named Mike, just avoid him if possible. What else, they have a wonderful snack bar...that keeps the strangest hours. Hey, how about open it up around lunch time? Or just keep it open while the facility is open, now that's just crazy-talk. Speaking of hours, I've never seen a YMCA that closes on Saturday at 4 in the afternoon. Wow. And Sunday. They close WAYYY too early every day. It's called "Armed Services" YMCA but they don't seem to care about Soldiers and service members who want to use the facilities with their families on the weekend when they're off work or even to go to use them in the evenings after a long day of work. Seriously everyone who makes decisions regarding the way this place is run needs to just be canned and replaced by someone with even a speck of plain sense. read more
