Bill's Fence

Bill's Fence

(11 reviews)

To begin with, the estimator, Ed, was very professional throughout the entire ordeal. He went above…read more& beyond, including cleaning up the horrible messes the installers left. His bosses are the problem in my opinion. After Ed did an on-site survey, we signed a two-page agreement to proceed. The first insult from Bill's after that was when we were presented a 10-page document, of which 3 pages consisted of verbiage explaining what Bill's would do to us if we didn't pay them. I voiced my opinion and displeasure with the tone of the document to Ed but decided to proceed (against my better judgement, but we wanted to get it done) and wrote a check for the 1/2 down. They had our check cashed in less than 4 hours. BTW, Ingle Fence was 5K less, but we liked Ed's professionalism and demeanor very much. I also referred a friend to Bill's and they did a pitiful job on hers. She has said that she will NOT recommend Bill's to any of her friends. So far, they have declined to correct two of the three deficiencies (1) pickets excessively spaced and warping present in just 60 days (2) picket bottoms just "floating" above bottom 1 x 6 on one section, and (3) didn't bother to even address the first problem I pointed out i.e., the top wood 2x4 cap of one section of fence not being level. They offered to "upgrade" the excessive picket spacing as a "goodwill" gesture by ONLY charging us another $4,500 on top of the 20K we already paid. They claim that the pickets shrank in the 60 days since installation. Buried on page 6 of the 10-page contract, is an explanation of the grade of wood they use. It's allegedly a #2 grade which, after seeing it in an installed condition, is one grade higher than it deserves. In addition, just to add insult to injury, Bill's office girls tried to collect the 1/2 down at the beginning of the job TWICE. They then tried to collect the final payment on completion TWICE. There was nothing nefarious about the duplicate collection attempts, just incompetence. To their credit, they did a site visit and took pictures. I asked that they report back via phone call, as I had already received one of their "FU" emails. So naturally, they DIDN'T report back via phone, instead, I got another "FU" email from them. In the end, their workmanship & materials warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on, other than for Bill's to throw it in your face when a complaint is registered. I have NEVER reviewed a business online, but I feel as tho future prospective customers of Bill's need to be aware that their workmanship is lacking & that the wood they use is substandard in my opinion. Bill's is a very arrogant company for no apparent reason IMHO. Beware, regardless of how much you pay.

The Fence Man - 24' automatic gate

Long story short... questionable ethics, not on time and unprofessional. Keep in mind they didn't…read moreget to do the work because they shot themselves in the foot right out of the gate. About 3 weeks ago a weather system came through town and took down a section of my Privacy fence. 4 posts had snapped below ground level at the concrete base. The fence panels were not damaged and were reusable. This was a pretty simple diy fix except for the fact that the downed section ran right along the utility easement and I did not want to take the hit if I accidentally cut a power, cable or telephone line. After checking reviews on yelp I decided to call in the Fence Man. They didn't have any reviews good or bad but I took a chance. The Fence Man made an appointment to come out and check out the damage and write up an estimate for me. Their estimator didn't show the first time and I had to call them back and set another appointment. He did show for the 2nd appointment and proceeded to tell ME what I wanted. I explained that I just wanted 4 posts replaced and the existing fence panels reattached. Again, he told me I didn't want to do that. I should replace the entire section, both posts AND panels. I asked for justification and the estimator/sales person said that using the existing panels would cost more in labor than the price of new panels...uhh really? So I asked for an estimate to do it both ways and he AGAIN said to me. "You don't want to do that" you need new panels. He then gave me a verbal price for that work. Sooo...I told him that once I had an estimate in hand for both options I would make a decision. He said he would send that to me when he got back to the office. The next day he contacted me and asked when they could start on the work. Told him that I still needed that estimate on a contractual document and what he sent me blew my mind. He texted a photo of a hand written estimate for 4 new posts and 3-8 foot sections of new panel. By this time I had already called Another outfit and they came out that day. They looked at the fence and said "All you need is 4 new posts. We will remove the panels, dig out the old posts and replace them with new posts and reset the existing panels." I said that's exactly what I want and he gave me a verbal price on the spot with a promise to follow up with a written (signed) estimate. You can read my review of that company on yelp. The Fence man estimate was more than twice the price I eventually paid to have it done my way. In the future I know who I'll call.. and it won't be the fence man.

I contacted them on a Wednesday and they were out by Friday afternoon. I wanted my driveway pressure washed before the holidays. Poorboy offered the most competitive pricing by far. Poorboy arrived and conducted themselves most professionally. It was slated for an hour to complete the job. However, they were done well before the hour. Was that it? No. While chatting with the Poorboy crew, the subject of fencing came up. They noticed my gate was a bit askew. And it most definitely was; the gate has been sagging (I did not know that this was the term) for years. The Poorboy crew mentioned that they could fix that. I thought that was spectacular that they offered. I assumed that they would need to make an appointment and come back. But, I was happily surprised again. They offered to, if I purchased the parts, they would repair the sag. They told me what was needed. I picked up the parts. They returned later in the day and corrected the sag in the gate. I greatly appreciate everything that Poorboy was able to do for me. I would hire them again for anything that they could do for me.
