No girl in a flat bed Ford though. My husband was bummed about that! LOL However, there is a big Route 66 emblem in the middle of the intersection & a historic building. If you are an Eagles and Glenn Frey fan this is worth the time to visit this display. Right across the street is a fabulous gift shop for great souvenirs and more. This is the best place for the price. We picked up a few t-shirts, guitar picks and presents for some of our other groupies. Winslow is a very small town. There isn't too much to do here, so could only imagine what it would have looked like back in the day when this iconic song was created. **Fun Fact- the original version was based off of Jackson Browne actually being stranded in Flagstaff but Glenn Frey changed the lyrics to Winslow as it was a better fit rhythmically & vocally. The locals are super friendly. Take it easy and enjoy the Route 66 appeal. Encourage visiting the 9/11 Remembrance Garden and the Old Trails Museum while exploring this legendary spot.

Fun fact: the Eagles made the song famous but Jackson Browne wrote it. Free street parking everywhere. Winslow isn't very big. Such a fine sight to see.

Inside the refurbished dome there is a gift shop, oddities and curiosities, a coin operated village, old school carnival games, and supplies for the things to do outside as well. They offer panning for gems, spray painting cars ( think Cadillac Ranch) and you can drive your own car or rent a pedal cart to go through the dinosaur exhibit out back. I rented the cart to pedal through. It was a blast and they are adding more all the time. This is a must stop while cruising the route!

Located on the Meteor City exit heading east on I 40 before Winslow, you'll find this interesting place with some fun things to do with kids. There was quite a few things to look at which are free, and their gift shop had some cute and unusual things! I bought a couple of Centennial Route 66 pins. We were intrigued looking around for about an hour. We didn't do any of the extras, but when my great niece and great nephew come out to visit, I'll definitely have this on the list! Happy to see that this place is up and running again and I hope they have a great 2026 with the Route 66 Centennial Celebration!

More information is available on the City of Holbrook website under "parks". Currently, the tour guide is Darlene, a Rock Symbols Researcher, and she can be reached at 928-241-1324. She is fundamental in the preservation of this site. I met Darlene at the golf course clubhouse, which is at the end of Gold Course Rd. There you sign a waiver, and the fee for the tour is $25 cash per person. Make sure you have cash with you, as there is not an ATM on site. The city of Holbrook website does not explain a lot of this, so, when you speak with your tour guide, make sure all of your questions are answered prior to your visit. From the golf course, you follow Darlene in your vehicle on dirt roads, so a vehicle that's possible on a fairly decent dirt road, is needed. These roads do have locked gates, so do not try to access on your own. If you have time, she will take you around the birding pond, and then to the petroglyph site. For the petroglyph site, make sure you are wearing decent hiking boots/shoes, as the trails are challenging with rock-climbing, and pants, as there are shrubs that can scratch you. Also, wear sunscreen, bring an adequate amount of water, a snack, some TP or a napkin in case you need to pee pee, and I would recommend a hat and binoculars, as some of the glyphs are up high. Many of these Anasazi glyphs are in wonderful shape and from different time periods. My tour guide, Darlene, was just amazing in pointing out the glyphs, describing what they possibly mean, and the history of the property. Darlene also spoke of her documentation of these glyphs, as well as others, as there is really no way to preserve them. There is very little vandalism at this site, which is a plus! My experience on this Earth Day, was so educational, peaceful, and truly enjoyable! The Anasazi had it right, leave no footprint behind unless they're petroglyphs!

It's a big lot, so there was still plenty of spaces, but I was concerned my cave experience would be full of noisy people. The entrance is a bit narrow and difficult to get down, but that is the hardest part. It runs for 3/4 of a mile underground and is a pretty unique experience to have. There were many times where I could just stop walking and turn off my light and not see anybody ahead or behind me, kind of felt like you were just floating in space! Cool natural feature not to miss if you're in the area!

This is a small cave tucked away in the woods, you'll travel down a long bumpy dirt road and your cell reception might not be the greatest. I would keep that in mind if you do not think you'll be able to climb down slippery rocks and back up again as it will take a while for rescuers to arrive if you get hurt. It was pretty neat seeing how much ice could be found just inside the entrance to the cave, I knew we would see some but I didn't expect as much as we seen. The climb down into the entrance is a little steep, and it can be wet/very slippery so wear shoes with good grip. Once you get past the initial decent the hike inside isn't too bad! There are some tighter spots, some areas where you'll need to duck down low and it is super dark so bring plenty of light sources. There were quite a few people here when we went so you won't be alone in the cave, but everyone was nice and helped make sure everyone could get past one another without any issues. There were quite a few people who visited & started to explore the cave, but realized they couldn't do it and left. Our group had three people stay behind while three explored the cave, if you end up being someone who decides not to go down there are a lot of little hiking trails around the cave. This hike can be difficult for many especially if you aren't used to hiking on uneven ground, climbing or have bad balance.
